I actually prefer the V2 textures and colouration over the V3 ones shipped with the snapshots; they're smoother, look slightly more 3D, and are less pixelated. Except for glass and andesite; there I like V3 better. I also like the much-maligned sand+derivatives colour change, but the sand texture itself needs to be more randomized. I prefer both V2 and V3 over most of the original textures, with the exception of the melon and blue orchid.
Overall I think Jappa did a great job, staying pretty faithful to the iconography of Minecraft, but taking some of the original ugliness out (like, who'd ever build with netherrack; I didn't even like going into the nether with the default textures).
I noticed though that they sort of reverted the polished diorite, which I found rather odd. The V2 polished diorite was really nice in my opinion and the V3 regular diorite is very beautiful as well. As opposed to most people(I think), I really like the textures for the diamond, emerald and gold block. They're very nice candidates for expensive looking builds as details.
As usual, Jappa has made a bunch of good textures, where the issue is not, "Does this look like sand?", but, "Does this look better than the past sand?" Personally, I like them all, but the sand texture is just not what we have always associated with deserts - not to say it's ugly (though I agree it could easily be confused with sandstone), but it doesn't have the same feel as the bright, scorching yellow of past sand. The bark textures are similar: they are not bad themselves, but how are we going to build with wood with that much contrast? I will say, the andesite texture seems to have been well-received, and I think granite looks pretty nice, but am I the only one who hates the diorite with my whole heart? I think it looks even more like bird poop than the first texture...
TL;DR: I would not be very upset if this version was the final one, but if Mojang are going to listen to the community, they should revert or substantially modify sand and wood at least.
I honestly don't like 95% of them. I hope to find a texture-pack that keeps the old textures when it comes out.

I like them. There are some blocks/objects here and there that I prefer from previous beta or original, but overall they are a nice improvement. Trees, cobblestone and netherrack are my favourite.
I like them, I only wish they'd include ×32 and ×64 versions.
„But you have resource packs for that.“ OK. Find me faithfull ×64 resource packs, where are textures for EVERYTHING in 1.13.2. I'd be eternaly greateful to you if you find something.
And we're talking here about connected textures, mobs, menus, everything. Without some weird quirks, which author felt the need to put there.
Yeah, and while you're at it, the same thing, except ×128 or ×256, but as realistic. Please.
I don't like them at all. I "grew up" with the old textures and they are very iconic to most people. Being only 16x resolution, another thing I prefer about them is how "crisp" they look compared to the newer ones which just feel soft and plastic-y. I would much rather prefer that they just make some small improvements to the current textures rather than create entirely new ones.
I'm just curious as to why they decided to change them. The old textures have been there since the items were added, so they were very iconic.. It will take a while for people to get used to them
From what I remember, they decided to change the textures to deal with an inconsistent art style. The game and the team have both developed and changed a lot over time, but the textures haven't changed with it.
For those who do not like them, 1.14 gets a texture pack called "programmer art" which contains the old textures.
I personally find it quite refreshing that they're redoing all the textures, so I'm not bothered.
I quite like the new textures. It's a nice change after seeing the same old pixelated textures for the past 6 or 7 years or so years - I can't even remember.
Especially gravel, I think it actually looks quite cool now. The sand and stone textures also look very cool. I haven't seen the new grass texture yet, cause my resource pack overrides grass, dirt, end stone, some dyed glasses, droppers, some concretes and concrete powder, and etc with models and textures of my making.
My eyes have a pretty difficult time seeing the hazier things, especially on a big Screen. Perhaps they're better-viewed from a distance, as-opposed to the discrete, slightly-(if invisibly )repetitively more-clear if-Pixellated style, originally.

Yeah.. I find they're amazingly-similar... I never have problems tracking stuff or Fighting Hostile Mobs, incoming (at all speeds). Look(s)(ed) fine to me.
Maybe just-not consistent with the ever-changing developers /Game's overall - range of, mainly if not overall flavor(s) - Mechanics. Game still Plays the same, just - Now - looks pretty-radically different.
I think the new textures look neat, but they seem like a different game's style. This on top of all the recent updates makes it seem more like they're changing the game than simply updating it- and for me (and maybe some others) it makes the latest update seem more strange and unfamiliar. How will this affect adventure maps, builds, animations, and YouTube videos before and after the update? Will classic music videos of the game like Revenge end up looking outdated or unusual? Or will some players like the textures, some players dislike, and then there's less of a standard for videos?
Plus now some of the merchandise people bought won't match up with the actual game.
Just the textures.

Some are absolutely ugly, others are not bad (such as emeralds) but I personally prefer the original textures.
I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
Not a fan of them, in my honest opinion.

I'll probably end up making a mix pack.
I do very much like the new textures!!

If they proceed like this, then I'm happy

Do not like. Time to start looking at texture packs, I guess...

Inconsistent? How?

I couldn't tell you what's inconsistent, but that's what I picked up somewhere, I can't really remember where it was.
