I am looking forward to scaffolds. From what I heard it sounds like it might be similar to the scaffolds from industrial craft 2. Would be a very useful block in builds that kind of need a structural framework such as floor trusses in an industrial themed build. The pandas and the bamboo are going to be really cool too. Bamboo trees have been something that I thought should be in the game for awhile. Overall, I like all of the additions mentioned. I know villages and villagers as they are now are kind of outdated. They could use a good revamp.
Insufficient information to tell whether the implementation will live up to the ad (or even be decently playable), but some interesting ideas….
Of course, that presumes that MS/Mj are able to fix the current version [1.13.still_testing] so that it works properly with the stuff already added… :SIGH:

I was so excited to hear that they were going to change the villagers! I love villagers, they're one of my favourite features in minecraft! Smarter villagers? Yes please! And more interesting textures!
I find it slightly unfortunate that they're going to add those pillagers. I loved the peaceful nature of villages and I feel like I'm going to find a lot of ghost villages, just because I didn't arrive in time to protect it. Not to mention the fact that I personally don't enjoy combat that much. Unless... I wonder what the role of the iron golem will be in this setting.
I hope if they add pillagers, they will remove zombie sieges, because I can't be there all the time to fight all the enemies.
If villagers get scripted behaviour, I wonder how zombie villagers work when you cure them. And how will villager breeding work? At least if it becomes scripted, it'll be very predictable. I can't wait!!
Also, I bet that half the community will be pissed because their iron farms no longer work.

Looks nice. I like how villages are getting a bit of an overhaul. Although I'm indeed a little worried that the pillager attacks are going to be annoying to deal with.
I've always thought crossbows would be a good addition, as an alternative for the bow.
I know they said something about wanting to add pandas years ago, I somewhat saw this coming. The scaffolding could be useful I guess.
They also said something about adding campfires, I'm rather curious what the point of them will be.
I'm really looking for foxes! I hope they're going to be nuisance animals, like I feel they should be able to jump over fence gates to get to your chicken pen and kill them all.
Though above all, I hope this update isn't going to take another major toll on the performance...
This update I believe is a further update in the wrong direction. The additions unfortunately have little to offer and here is why:
1. Villages
The updates to villager skins is going to take a lot of time potentially for very little benefit. It is almost just a part of the texture update which was not exactly welcome by all. The new textures also don't seem to fit in with Minecraft very well. Additionally, unless trading makes some massive changes, villages will retain the same purpose; a quick stop to plunder food, books, and blacksmiths. My concern is this facelift will not add much actual content to villages and villagers that really makes them worth keeping around in a game.
2. Pillagers
My question on these are... why exactly? I get the fun of having a new mob, but zombie attacks at night are kind of already implemented and villages are constantly destroyed by them without much trouble at all. If anything, I'd suggest an upgrade to these zombie raids and perhaps increased autonomous villager defenses. As everyone knows, iron golems hardly ever spawn in villages anymore, so they have no defense for themselves.
3. Pandas
I know pandas have been on the docket for years, but I have the same low opinion of them as I do for polar bears, parrots, and potentially foxes. While having these mobs is nice, they offer nothing new or worthwhile to the game. Parrots act as archaic warning systems, but it would be incredibly difficult to set anything up utilizing parrots when a few torches can solve any mob issue. Polar bears are easy to fend off and only drop fish. They add nothing new to the game. I am hoping that foxes will have more potential and use like other mobs, but time will tell on that one.
4. Bamboo & Scaffolding
I like this addition. It's pretty good and it goes well with the pandas. However, my concern is scaffolding will fall into disuse quickly. Jungles are so rare ever since the update that changed the world, that having scaffolding is barely worth the effort of finding a jungle far off in who-knows-where when one can quickly use pillars and ladders and remove them quickly with shovels, axes, etc. I definitely understand the benefit, but maybe if it was more easily accessible it would add more to the game.
5. Bushes
I'll be honest. I love this part. I think berry bushes would be a really cool addition to taiga biomes. Having orchards of bushes could be a prettier alternative to farms potentially. My only concern is that berries won't be a viable food source as they may have negative status effects. Don't believe me? Rewatch the taiga update video and watch the girl's reaction after eating a berry. It could be a clue that they give poison or some other debuff. If this is the case, then there's no point to adding berry bushes as it will just be a food that isn't usable. Perhaps they will end up being used to brew potions of nausea though, which would be an excellent addition.
6. Cats
The cat update is small, but definitely welcomed in my opinion. The change is subtle, but cats will be more accessible and therefore used more often.
7. Crossbows
I don't see the purpose. Much like the trident, I feel like the crossbow will be an extra weapon with little benefit as we already have bows. However, as the full stats and behaviors of crossbows have not been fully announced, I have no full opinion yet.
8. Pillager Beast
If these are able to be tamed by killing nearby pillagers, I think they may be an effective new addition. Like the horse, the pillager beast could potentially be ridden and add some excellent resistance to it's rider. But like the crossbow, not enough is known to make an assessment.
9. Sandstone walls.
This is a minor addition but a welcomed one. I think it's great and would love to see more changes to sandstone behavior. (Perhaps in the future we can change how sandstone is carved by right clicking with a pickaxe, much like how you can strip logs now.)
10. Campfire
This addition, like many other's, does not have enough information to make an accurate assessment. I will say this though; logs and netherrack and you have a campfire already. Part of the beauty of Minecraft is the ability for people to take basic materials and invent creative ways to use them. Consider how we create chairs, tables, cabinets, etc. I'm not sure I would welcome updates that replace our impromptu chairs with crafted chairs. This is the same thing as the campfire, unless it adds buffs or some other benefit, there is little to be gained by adding something that players can already create in game.
I can't help but find it disturbing that Pillager Beasts resemble Pillagers so much, specially as Pillagers already seem to be a subset of Illagers, which are already shown to use magic beyond the Player's abilities, which already raises the hypothesis that they may be made from captured villagers.
Villagers will need new defenses, as iron golems currently are already nearly useless without player intervention.
While I'm not really that surprised by crossbows, I like their ability to fire fireworks, which sets them apart from bows and can make them good against crowds. However, I have the impression that they came a bit too late, and should have been added back in 1.9
I hope pandas are useful, or at least are more interesting than polar bears. Same with foxes.
I think villager skins are a bit pointless, and that the weaponsmith shouldn't have an eyepatch due to it raising the question of why do ALL of them have a missing eye. However, they're at least a nice aesthetic change.
I think bamboo and scaffolding are likely to be related. I think that both are the best additions of the update, althrough I hope bamboo can be made into blocks, as there's few good green blocks in the game.
Don't worry I remember they said the scaffoldings are to be made from bamboos, right before Agnes and Jeb showed the bamboo and panda clip.

Consider how we create chairs, tables, cabinets, etc. I'm not sure I would welcome updates that replace our impromptu chairs with crafted chairs.
I would, that sort of thing [improvised creations] are necessarily and by definition extremely ugly and half-assed. They are on the same level as dirt cube houses and wooden tools.
Parrots act as archaic warning systems, but it would be incredibly difficult to set anything up utilizing parrots when a few torches can solve any mob issue.
Not the reason parrots were actually added. The primary intent of the parrot was to become a mobile cave detector...ie, tameable bats. It would've been supremely imbalanced if like bats they simply detected dark spots, so they compromised and had them mimic mob sounds, given the high propensity for mobs to exist in dark caves.
My question on these are... why exactly? I get the fun of having a new mob, but zombie attacks at night are kind of already implemented and villages are constantly destroyed by them without much trouble at all.
Zombie raids can be entirely negated by keeping the village within a certain size of area. The pillagers have crossbows, which make this sort of planning obsolete since they can just plink the villagers from afar. The beast obviously can trample crops just by walking over them (or perhaps it's in a special running mode), and it's big enough that smashing through fences and walls is probably going to also be a thing though for all we know they may simply be like horses and be able to jump over them.
The pillagers are far too effective in the video to be a natural spawn that appears just anywhere (even if limited to near villages or in biomes that villages can spawn in), so it's probably going to be the case that they'll replace zombie raids entirely while at the same time extending the conditions in which such raids happen (which gets rid of the "stay away from the village at midnight" strategy).
Villagers are getting a smarter AI too, so given the assumption about the beast's abilities I imagine we'll see them repairing broken fences and doing minor repair work (maybe fixing the missing doors, too?). It probably won't be on par with village simulators such as the Minecraft Comes Alive mod where you send villagers out to do tasks, but at least they'll be doing something along the lines of self-maintenance.
I honestly hope the pillagers are going to do more than just murder villagers and break minor portions of the village, however. Much like with the Civilization games, it would be quite nice if there was a "win" condition for the pillagers wherein the pillagers would take over the village as their own for the players to recapture. Perhaps a new village structure could be created, the flagpole, that flies a randomly created banner (probably no further use for these specific designs other than to indicate it's not currently pillaged). When the last villager dies, the flag changes to a pillager design. With the addition of a "tattered" flag to all banners, repairing the banner could be a villager AI activity such that the player can tell from afar if the village has any villagers left.
This update I believe is a further update in the wrong direction. The additions unfortunately have little to offer and here is why:

The only change coming to minecraft 1.14 that I will not be looking forward to is the Villager and pillager portion or more specifically the pillagers themselves. When you think about it villagers can't even survive the night against simple zombies because they can't defend themselves and often don't have iron golems to protect them due to how it takes a minimal amount of villagers to have even one golem spawn in. Anyone remember how you need Thorns on armor for villagers to fight back against simple zombies?
If they intend to carry out with the pillagers then they should have some form of pre-generated form of defense for the villagers so they have a chance of surviving the encounters without player intervention.
I suggested in that comment that I thought a warrior profession for the villagers would be a good idea. Also on skype, I was talking about implementing enhanced fight or flight behaviors for villagers since they are in fact as dumb as potatoes as one person put it.
Agree on the pillager concerns. It's already too easy for a group of villagers to be destroyed. I am interested to see how they implement it, and if the villagers will have anything to defend themselves with.

Really looking forward to this update! It looks like pandas are not going to be a dull mob.
I think that pandas don't fit that well... but thats what I thought about update aquatic.
