What could work as a compromise would be that placing a fence, a trap door or a ladder or any other such block doesn't remove the water if it is placed in water, neither flowing nor source, but if it already is placed outside of water, it will only let water through if water is placed directly on it. If water is placed next to it when it was "dry" before, it will not fill with water.
Items that swim in water will still let the items through, the door thing would still work, my creeper-farm-idea would still be doable and the other farms would still work as before. Win-Win.
Not bad, although it should also be possible to place a fence etc. ["fence" used hereafter as a generic for blocks affected by the new water physics] in water and then remove the water making water-flow & water-stop fences fully interconvertible…
There may be issues with the coding as to how the game remembers which fence is which type; although it might work to create a new tag indicating water interaction status (and setting it to water-stop as default during world conversion to preserve prior builds).
I nonetheless prefer the various proposals that introduce new blocks to implement the new physics. (q.q.v. HERE and more recently HERE )

But then came the comments where everyone yelled "MY FARMS WILL BREAK!!! MY FARMS WILL BREAK!!! MY FARMS WILL BREAK!!! MY FARMS WILL BREAK!!!" and the entire thing turned into... well... that. Nothing.
Since (by your own argument) this group has the power to change MS/Mj policy —
your interests might be better served by coopting the support of the sub-group that liked the proposed changes – but wanted implementation to be in a fashion that did not grief prior builds – rather than denigrating that group as a 'basket of deplorables'. [Recent history providing at least one very public example of the ineffectiveness of the latter approach….]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
The water thing seems to allow grates inside water (as long as it is a source block). Hopefully you can place a block Inside a water block. But if not, just one more step if I use fences on an underwater structure.
Maybe add it in the turtles section or maybe in a new "Unconfirmed" area, but the possibility of Turtle armor, or at least a turtle helmet. Jappa released a texture of it (we think accidentally), i made a forum post about ithere (i think i was the first to find it)
Secondly, Mob B has been confirmed to be named the "Phantom" by Jeb in a livestream!

You wouldn't mind if I used a picture of it (the turtle helmet) from your video, right?

I'm pretty sure the turtle helmet is a red herring. They've done things like this before, like way back in I think Christmas 2012 they put a texture for skis in, and that was a red herring.

Why would this be a red herring? There are actual turtles being added to the game, so why would they tease us with something like this?
Have fun placing a water bucket on each and every post.
I'll be honest; I posted my piece before realizing water physics have changed from the preview to having to manually add water to things... this is kiiind of dumb in my opinion... it does wreck the ideas I had from the preview, with the water flowing from another source through the fence- what happens now if your fence is say three blocks away from water? Will it still stop? Do you have to add water to the fence thus causing the water to rise to the top of the fence even though the prior flow is blocks away?
I DO look forward to having posts IN water, but the rest seems like nonsense. Rather than change their original idea for the water physics update, they should have just made certain blocks still block water. Maybe they'll come up with something of a middle ground before the release. *crosses fingers*
Hyped for the update. Only regret is the new horse model, it's a shame they're letting it go for artistic consistency but i hope there's a mod that will replace the model.
As of.... Just earlier! we now have a snapshot with a whole load of Update Aquatic stuff like seagrass, stripped wood, some more slabs/stairs, the Phantom and TURTLES (and more)! i even updated my turtle shell forum post to include everything i could find out about the turtle shells!
(also, ur free to use any of the pics from said forum post)
Recently, the first snapshot containing Update Aquatic bits has come out, and man is it interesting. I, as a builder, especially like the new stripped logs. I never knew I wanted them until now!

Yeah, the snapshot looks great! Only thing is...the phantom mob's AI is very derpy. Again, though, it is a snapshot, so this is expected. I'd like to see where the Potion of the Turtle Master will come into play in actual gameplay.
Some Interesting Things I Learned While Playing:
1. When a trident is thrown, mobs near the trident temporarily glow
2. Kelp is a terrible food source (probably because of how common it is)
3. When using the Riptide enchantment, you can look up (while in water) and jump out of the water very high.
Very pleased at (among other things) the apparent action of the channeling enchantment; this may make charged creepers something more than a theroretical entity…
Concur on the attractiveness of barked logs
EDIT:
Early returns on Snapshot 18w07a indicate that (at least for the new prismarine slabs and stairs) flowing water is blocked, but underwater placement is bubble free ("bubbles" still occur if placed in water with air above)…
Assuming this is extended to the rest of the relevant blocks, Mj seems to have found a happy middle ground

And with that, obtaining mob heads seem much more practical and less random now.

I, for one, am more worried about horses.

I like turtles.
Everything else is great!
2 things i think you could add to the list:

First thing I heard of this I thought it was going to be a red herring or a joke, but we'll see.
Figured it was time for a change.

I'm excited about the shipwrecks! Would love to see what they look like!
Yea, go ahead! (you can even use the whole vid if u want, or a gif i made of it https://imgur.com/D3RoRc6)
Not sure why you didn't mention this, but the Loyalty enchantment for tridents makes them come back to the thrower.

Best feature ever. If they remove it in a later snapshot I will be disappointed.

This is so epic. And on the video of "Update Aquatic". IT said their was going to be a trident. Wonder when that is coming.
Yep.
