I tried out the pre-release 6 for a bit today. Am i the only one with the sensation that they are taking certain mechanic's and ideas that already exist within certain mods and just implementing it with a different look?
Not saying this as it was a bad thing. Im just stating my observations so far lol.

To be frank, at this point there's so many mods that the chances are that a new feature is going to be similar to it is pretty high. In some cases in the past, they have taken from mods themselves, which is very far from a bad thing.
Had a play around with the glazed terracotta - not sure I will use it much, it is a bit glaring and over bright for my tastes.Maybe in limited areas of a build.
Parrots - after wandering around a jungle biome for ages I never saw a single one! Seems a bit odd that a rare biome gets a second unique mob but I suspect parrots will not be a feature for me.
Coloured beds - I can take or leave, not tried the concrete yet.
My biggest bugbear is the drop command has changed - after a mining session I used to be able to drop 4 stacks of cobblestone at once by putting them into my crafting slots and exiting the inventory - then they would drop, that does not work now - it is a case of dropping each item individually in a stack from the hotbar by pressing the drop key - 64 times per stack - seriously?!??!?
I just tried everything but no - all I can do is dump one item at a time - a whole stack will not go, I used to put them in my crafting area then close the inventory always worked fine no it just puts them back into my hotbar/inventory area. What method do you use?

The items sticking back into your inventory was a quality of life change made in the update. I personally think this change is nice since there are multiple, much more efficient ways to drop items, and every time I closed the crafting, having the items drop isn't what I wanted. Now I can safely close it to quickly remove items from the table in case I ever make a mistake with large number crafting.
To drop items directly from your hotbar, highlight the stack you want to drop and press Ctrl+Q (Or whatever your drop button is). To drop them while your inventory is open, simply pick up the item and click anywhere outside of the inventory screen.

Thanks for that.
I have managed to find parrots and tame one - regretting it now as I think it is way over the top on imitating mob sounds (I assume it picks up those just underground and in nearby caves when mining) unless my world is full of baby zombies! At first I was turning around looking for mobs most of the time before I realised what was happening.
I *love* The recipe book. No more looking at the Wiki to figure out how to make things I'm interested in (or deciding not to make it Right Now and look for it later!) I'm crafting so many more things in Minecraft regularly now that I can look it up in my recipe book (even if I haven't yet figured out how to make stuff yet)
I'm not real fond of the white beds. I find myself having to make dye to dye it before setting it down. The environments my beds move in are -so- dirty. That white just would not stay clean!
I am a huge fan of the recipe book! I usually just google or look on the official Minecraft wiki to get recipes, but I don't even have to leave the game now! One thing I don't really like about it is that I have to have had access to at least one item to craft it, which is fine generally, but sometimes it's annoying to deal with.
I also miss the red bed, though I do enjoy being able to change the color of the bed. But I really enjoy the new glazed terracotta and concrete blocks.

"They think we're drowning, but our heads are still above the waves."
I like most of the gameplay parts of the update, other than the recipe book. A big aspect of Minecraft imo was that crafting was a mystery. People used to have to use their brains or study other peoples' gameplay/ the wiki to figure out how to craft something. I learned how to craft by watching Paulsoaresjr, and I was overjoyed every time I saw him figure out how to make a new item that I needed.
The handy-dandy tutorial takes away the charm of being taught by a peer.
That aside, I like the glazed terracotta. I think it will be great for mapmakers who want to use a custom texturepack to make blocks fit the scene of what they are making without having to take an essential building block out of the game. It will also be fun to experiment with in general.
The parrots seem interesting I suppose. I am not all to sure of what they do other than probably sell plushies on the minecraft store. It might be fun to wear one on my shoulder and pretend that I'm a pirate.
The concrete stuff adds interesting concepts to redstone, so I am for that all the way!
I've been waiting for dyed beds for a while now. I'm glad that they've been added.
I think that the colors change is great!
I am disappointed that Minecraft Java edition will not be included in the crossplay update. I think this may be for a few reasons.
1. Player limits would be weird since apparently the other versions can't get their stuff together.
2. Plugins and mods might be difficult.
3. It might lift the veils from the heads of the people who play Minecraft on the other platforms, and people might start realize that they are getting conned by Microsoft and then resist in some way. It would be hard, after all to release the community marketplace after people find out that the Java boys have been getting the same stuff and more for free for years.
4. It might just be me, but whenever I have played the console edition, even trying to PvP has been incredibly clunky. If people in the other editions have as bad PvP skills as I do when using a controller or touch screen, their fun might be jeopardized by people running around with keyboards and mice.
Finally, removing Herobrine was a horrible decision. They should keep him in the game next time.

1.12? Complete disappointment, as expected. We got a few colored blocks and parrots.
insert sarcastic "yay" here
It's not a disappointment if you expect nothing. I suggest you adjust your expectations accordingly. It's hard to be let down when you don't expect anything to be great. It even allows you to be frequently pleasantly surprised.

I probably just don't like this update as much since I like the more exploring and adventuring aspect of the game. So I am bound to biased towards updates that focus on those aspects of the game as the color update is way more a block type expanding update than a adventuring update. I like the parrots though since are not just ambient mobs like the bats and actually do something.
Not to mention it's a hard act to follow after the woodland mansion which was (to me anyways) one of the first really exciting things to be added to minecraft in a while even if it's just a big hunk of wood filled with angry villagers welding hatchets. Also zombie filled villages.
This update was definitely great for people who love parrots and those who are really looking for something interesting to work with in Creative, but to me it's like Mojang is like "LO0K AT ALL DA PRETTY COLORZZ!!!1!"

Figured it was time for a change.
i like it specially because it have new colorful block and made the wool more vibrant
but i wish they added invite friend feature like the one in mcpe/w10
Started a new 1.12 game..

The Ctrl+Q works in the inventory too

As of my opinion, I love the new wool colors but I wish it was easier to keep parrots dancing when play a music disc. They keep flying away!

I am enjoying it so far. I like the birds, and I like the glazed terracotta, even though some people absolutely hate it.
Edit:
After reviewing other posts in the thread, I would also like to say that I also *love* the recipe book. It is so useful.

Yeah I totally agree with you except for that last part ( that was a BEST joke I ever heard about herobrine being removed)
Some nifty content I guess.
Parrots!
Yay.
