It looks like vertical redstone is finally a thing now. I repeat: it looks like vertical redstone is finally a thing now.
Those observer blocks can be linked to each other, so that if observer 1 updates, 2 also updates, then 3, then 4, etc. So you can first of all make endless redstone cables if you want, because there is no limit into such a chain (yet). But you can also go all the directions with them. Thus also vertical.
You can even make turns. Just place a redstone dust at the end of the line and link an observer on it from above or from another direction. Now you can make the line go vertical, or go left, or whatever you want, without any costs.
You only just have to find a way to keep the outputted redstone signal permanent if needed, but for the avarage redstone wizard that shouldn't be a big problem.
I don't know, but it seems that the observer is one of the most powerful blocks for redstoners.
I think it's a great addition and really should have been added a long time ago. Do we know if the old BUD behavior will remain or will it be removed? I'm betting it will remain so that old circuits won't be broken, otherwise the outcry would be immense.
Even on Hard, I wouldn't say the mansions are an endgame challenge; they feel more like early-midgame. The reward feels early-midgame too; you're not going to make use of the totem if you're in the endgame since you're borderline invincible anyway, and the chests in there contain meager loot. From what I've seen, the best thing you can get is a diamond block that generates as a part of a specific room, but that room is not guaranteed to spawn. If you wanted the loot, you would be much better off just spending time progressing rather than finding a cartographer and then taking the 10km+ journey to the mansion; instead of getting a few items that prevent most deaths once and a pittance of diamonds, you'll get equipment that reduces the chance of almost all deaths dramatically along with the resources to sustain that equipment indefinitely (not to mention many more diamonds).
Yeah, I explored one of them and I also thought it didn't have much loot. I didn't found the room with a diamond block, although I found a strange room in a corner, which contained a very long corridor, with stairs and all wrapped around itself, and at the end there was a chest with dungeon-like loot: the most interesting thing was an enchanted book with Fire Aspect. Looking around in spectator mode I also found two secret rooms, with no entrance leading to them, but they didn't have anything useful either: a tree and chest with an iron axe with Efficiency in each of them.
The mansion gave me some surprises, though. I found a zone that looked like a jail, and a room with a jack o' lantern on the wall with some rails around it. Too bad a block of lava, for some reason, generated near one of the corners: after a few minutes, the mansion was burning down.

If you see a room with a mass of obsidian, there's a diamond block in the center. The villager statues also have lapis lazuli blocks in the center, not like those are valuable. IIRC, that room doesn't have an entrance (like the tree room) but I don't remember for certain; I found mine behind the villager head on the wall behind the staircase on the top floor which was cool, though it won't always appear there.
The mansions are very well designed and decorated but don't have enough loot to make the journey worth it IMO. Not going to walk 10 kilometers for a statuette that'll save me from deaths that almost never occur in the first place.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I inspected another mansion. Again, no diamond block room. They must be rare indeed, which is a shame. I hope Mojang improves mansions before 1.11 is released. This time I only saw a chicken statue (the previous mansion had both cat and chicken statues), which didn't seem to have any lapis block.
I'm not disappointed with my second mansion, however. I found another secret room with a spider spawner. No chest, however, which is strange.
I did find the room with the passage with the stairs again. I add an image in spectator mode so that you know what I'm talking about. Again, the chest contained loot identical to what you can find in a dungeon. This time, it had the usual wheat and music discs, if I remember well.
There's a possible room which has its wall covered with fences. If you check the upper portion of the room (just above the door, if I remember well), you'll find a secret chest. There's even diamond equipment... although perhaps not the best one...
Finally, some strange generation. I don't know if it's supposed to be this way or it's bugged in some way:
There any seed that generate Woodland mansion nearly spawn point because I used Woodland Exploration Map it's so hard to find i'm still find on forests and roofed forests still not found
If you only want to see one and don't mind using cheats, I would recommend using the /locate command which was added in this snapshot, then use the /tp command. I don't think there will be such a seed for quite some time. Considering both mansions I've seen had coordinates in the thousands, I would say they're very rare.
EDIT: Third mansion. Finally found the statue with the lapis block:
Well, it's definitely a snapshot. Kinda disappointed; was hoping for a full release. Already had the game crash twice from putting wood and coal in the furnace. *sadface*
I have to say, the Illagers don't seem all that bad of chaps.
Granted, they don't take well to trespassers, but I can't blame them for that; neither do I. The biggest strike against them is that they get along okay with undead mobs and creepers. That, and the prisons that sometimes, but not always, occur in their mansions.
But the dudes have impeccable taste, and even a playful side. You can't tell me that those wool statues of cats and chickens were made by people without a sense of humor. And I think those rooms lined with fences are meant to represent racks of wine bottles, so there's that.
Not sure what the weird "boxing ring" structures are supposed to be.

Wow. I understimated Internet. Apparently, one such seed has already been found.
If
you nametag a vindicator (those with the axes) "Johnny," he will go on a
rampage, attacking and killing every single mob on sight (unfortunately
not other illagers, but still the vexes). "Here's Johnny!" indeed.
That's hilarious!
Which means auto animal slaughter houses if you knew enough about redstone to make it happen.

I'm actually very curious what I can do with these guys. Since the mansion itself is also a giant spawning platform set when you think about it. Then you have renamed Vindicators that slaughter anything else. Though to be honest I think it would be cooler to just turn it into your own home and have the dudes spawn in your own created dungeon underneath. You could also have Vindi's on standby and release them on the press of a button to wipe out any mobs infesting the area.
Apparently both Vindicator and Evokers are like Elder Guardians, in that they spawn in fixed locations and don't respawn if killed. It surprises me in the case of the former, but I suppose Mojang doesn't want us to farm emeralds. It's a shame, illagers are too cool to be number limited, in my opinion.
Mojang along with Microsoft just released the new update, Minecraft 1.11. Personally I didn't like the changes Mojang made in the 1.9 update, they just straight up ruined the game, set Minecraft their own creation up for failure. Sure the new mobs and a new Mansion natural generation, but that is advertised and meant for people who only play survival. If Mojang would look for a second they would realize that there is a huge PvP community that now hates them.

If there is one thing I disagree with it's the fact mobs now take damage when compacted together. No more mob cannons, XP farms, cavespider explosions, and so on. I mean, sure there is a gamerule for it, but I feel like cheating if I have to use it to bypass it like the old way in my survival worlds.

XP farms are fine, just don't cram the mobs in a 1x1 space.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I think the Illagers have a soft side.
Look how adorable! I found like three of these guys in the same mansion.
Also, too:
Cute lil' beds for the illagers. They come in different colors, but this one stood out to me.

I absolutely love these structures.

So many mods, so little time.
Please don't post videos to this thread. The official video, starting at the 1.11 announcement is posted here in the 1.11 News and Updates thread.

Put an Evoker next to a blue sheap for Wololo.

i believe the villagers should look more modern
Because nothing says dragon, swords, and magic like 'Modern.'

For those who complain about post-Beta generation, you might want to see this.

if thats the case then villagers should be mages
