Autojump is very useful in some situations, such as natural environments, but it can be very annoying in other areas, like buildings. As others have suggested, turning it on/off as needed is a good way to go. But it would be nice if it could be turned on/off much quicker, like having a checkbox in the inventory panel, or even simpler, just some key (like 'j') that toggles it.

You have to basically sprint all of the time in Minecraft. It only autojumps when you're very near a block. This usually stops my sprinting. It's quite annoying, so I tend to stay away from it.

I don't sprint all the time in Minecraft. Perhaps I wouldn't like autojump if I had gotten into that habit.

I honestly think it was a great idea. In some situations it may not be the most useful, but you can toggle in on/off in your settings. So, just change it on/off depending on what you are doing, I guess.
All in all, auto-jump makes you mash less and meander more.
While Autojump is a genius feature for the pocket edition and touch-screen users, it is highly unnecessary for the Java version of the game. Having this feature on Win10 makes sense because it is PE ported over to the computer, having it on the main platform that Minecraft is on just doesn't make sense. It's a hassle to turn off and confused me and many other players when we were confounded as to why we were mysteriously jumping. Although it is unnecessary, I don't mind too much that it was added. However, Mojang should not have had it turned on by default. Other than that, I don't mind too much that it was added, especially since it's helping to bridge the gap between the PC and PE community. But it should be off by default, as I've already mentioned. That's all!
I've learned to tap the spacebar at just the right times when getting over small hills - years of running from diamond gear players really teaches you! It just doesn't seem right when you're trying to get up a hill and it stops you for even an extra millisecond, Idk xD
I personally do not like auto jump. It makes sense in minecraft PE because of limited controls. But that is where it should stay. I don't like how mojang is just taking most of their ideas from PE (that make PE original and fun) and just shove them in minecraft PC. But that is just my silly opinion.

In my opinion, autojump is more useful for mobile versions and all that. It just doesn't fit in well with the desktop versions. Sure, it can be good in some situations like climbing hills but in others (like the nether fortress incident you mentioned) it can be horrible. Personally I'd prefer it if I could set a keybind to it rather then having to go into the menu everytime.
Meh...I usually just keep it off. I don't really see a point in the auto jump feature on PC Minecraft, especially since using keys on a keyboard for controls is much more comfortable than using touchscreen controls like in PE.

Hi. You're looking at the signature of a user that has pretty much quit Minecraft, but I might still be lurking. You can take a look if you want.
<---- I am 0% of a Minecraft noob. That was luck...

One word: Accessibility. Is that kind of feature designed to help people with disabilities to play the game more easily (or to diminish the pain in use some devices that are not as suitable as a PC for gaming) - its not to like or dislike. Its the same question if the closed captions are good or bad...
And thinking in likability (and is an Accessibility feature too) I'm waiting for a auto-walk toggle like in Bethesda open world games - that is a must in Minecraft. Man, walking 3000 blocks holding that worn out "W" key its sad when you have RSI. The good thing in the 1.10 is that you can control the elytra using only the mouse - less painful than walk, waaaay faster and you can put your W to rest for a while.
Several mods already have a flawless one-block auto-climb that doesn't slow the player down like the vanilla autojump. They could have implemented it in a cleaner way.
"Auto Jump" was useful until you try to walk up a make shift stair case up a ravine and Auto Jump right off the side..... so yes i turned is off. I do see why they(Mojang) incorporated the feature because it is useful when playing with touchscreen due to the accessibility to a keyboard.

PM. Me if you want to Join My Realm. It is a Vanilla Survival with Some Command Block Tweaks.
I didn't need autojump when I started playing Medal of Honor oh... 10+ years ago, I sure as hell don't need it now. Just feels more natural to use the spacebar

White coats to bind me, out of control
I live alone inside my mind
World of confusion, air filled with noise
Who says that my life's such a crime?
Trapped in this nightmare
I wish I'd wake
As my whole life begins to shake
four walls surround me
an empty gaze
I can't find my way out of this maze
'Cause I don't care
Fall in, fall out
Gone without a doubt, help me
I can't take the blame
They don't feel the shame
It's a madhouse
Or so they claim
It's a madhouse
Oh, am I insane?
My fears behind me, what can I do
My dreams haunt my sleep at night
Oh no, won't learn their lesson, white fills my eyes
And only then they see the light
I didn't really like it, so I turned it off. If I want to jump, I'll do it manually.

It might be convenient. Might, I'd never know. I prefer to be in control of my movements.

I got sick of it real fast. With it on, it ticks me off. 70% of the time I jump, it's accidental.

I like Auto Jump for runnig away on Zombies and Skeletons.. if I have no life,,,

Gillymoth Structures for Ruins <<< Folder containing my Structure-sets for Ruins mod.
I can see autojump being useful for touchscreens and people with wrist problems/injuries, but I personally don't like it.
I can turn it off, so it's not exactly a huge deal though.
