Most of the advice in this thread is how to win the combat, which misses the point. The objection some of us are making is that we don't want so much emphasis on the combat in the first place. What I would like to see would be a difficulty option to put combat back the way it was, without removing conflict from the game entirely,
There's no need to "got any numbers to back up his claim" Just use the search function of this forum with 1.9, PvP and Combat as keywords. You'll see how many stupid threads 1.9 haters has made with same complaints in every single one of them. And one even had link to a online petition to Mojang to revert/cancel the Combat update. And guess what. They all failed miserably
And of course they failed, because "Minecraft combat is too easy and boring because it's just spam-clicking" has been a consistent complaint about Minecraft since Minecraft got combat. Pre-1.9 combat is just absurdly easy - why would anybody who wants combat play like that? And if you don't want combat, just turn it off, or avoid it. You can debate some of the choices made, like the current advantage to bows over swords, but limiting the spam-clicking is non-negotiable and there's no going back.

Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.

The point here is, that before this Combat Update, some Minecraft players complained that Minecraft was too easy. Now when they actually did make it littlebit harder with Combat revamp, that isn't good either. And I bet, that some of these whiners are the same people, that whined about Minecraft being too easy before. Isn't that bit hypocritical? I mean, some of these whiners just seem to whine because why not?
But now I shall return to the point of the thread: I do understand, that PvP community will take a huge blow here, and it will take some time from it to heal, but maybe Mojang could of have added gamerule to that would let PvP servers to disable the new system. That way everyone would of (propably) been happy.
I very much doubt the ones who complained about MC being too easy before are the ones complaining about 1.9. I've recognized a few from those discussions and they've all been generally supportive of 1.9. I could imagine some complaints from such people, but they'd be more nuanced complaints about "harder combat is great, but melee combat is too weak", and I haven't seen that.
The main reason for the shift is that there are a lot of MC players with a lot of different opinions and generally the ones that are unhappy post. This comes up a lot - swarms of complaints about something; Mojang changes it, then swarms show up saying 'bring it back' - but almost always different people. This change won't get rolled back, because it's too easy to deal with. Want easy combat - um - pick "Easy"! Want no combat - um - pic "Peaceful"!
I like where you go with your state. But mines is not like yours.
There are people with different levels, capabilities; Did you know that I mostly die on "normal" difficulty more than on "hard" or "easy" ? That may be different for you, but for me it is just usual.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but are you saying normal mode is harder for you than hard mode or you die more on normal mode than hard mode because you play on it more / it just happens that way? Because hard mode has literally no differences other than higher power multipliers for hostile mobs and of course zombies breaking doors.
I agree that people have different levels. Yes, they can in theory be breached with resolve, but sometimes that's just not worth the effort or investment, especially for a video game. I digress. Either way, hard mode is one of the few things I can call objective on, because it has more dangerous odds. And it would be nigh impossible for someone to experience a hard mode playthrough where hard mode mobs accidently kill each other with their higher quicker numbers every time they spawn, the only exception to the objectiveness.
im sorry that doesnt make any sense, your making some distinction between changes and updates?
and if they want to keep the game fresh just add new things, dont ruin the core gameplay
I agree they could have added any of these instead:
storm fronts so you see the weather incoming
wildfires so you can burn down forests and grassland
waves so that swimming or boating across long stretches is more fun/challenging
and if they want to keep the game fresh just add new things, dont ruin the core gameplay
It was more of a balancer than a ruiner. You can still spam click. And if you get the haste status effect from a beacon, you can still deal the same damage with your rapid clicks. Also, hoes insta recharge their attacks. The idea behind the change which is not that much of a gap between mob invincibility frames was to make Minecraft's PVP/PVE less thoughtless and more calculated.
The game will change to keep it fresh. Id rather have changes than have no updates and it staying the same.
Good point. Love it or hate it, changes still prevent you from getting bored of the same old stuff. Whenever an update is released, old players return to the game if only for a while.
but i want the new end cities and the boats and what not
If you want some 1.9 features in 1.8, I assume Gany is going to continue the trend of including content from the next update in version before mods. You can always wait for Gany assuming Gany didn't already add such features. To add to that these features are exclusively blocks/items/generation. That might solve your problem.
Skeletons are now like Little Mac in Super Smash Bros. 4. At a glance, they seem overpowered, but they have distinct and easy to exploit weaknesses. Shields are specifically designed to make them manageable. Wolves will automatically pursue them and they'll barely try to fight back. They can quickly become helpless when they don't have a lot of room to move, and fighting multiple skeletons is actually safer than fighting just one, since they'll often end up shooting each other and that leads to mob infighting.
Oh yeah, they buffed mob infighting to happen more often. Get the skeleton to shoot somebody and he'll get creamed!
That and iron golems were buffed to not be knocked back, so they'll smash skeletons up no problem now. (instead of being constantly held back by those spam arrows so they can't even attack)
And unrelated to skeletons but to 1.9 singleplayer building, don't forget that new pick block feature in singleplayer, that's got to be super handy for building stuff.
i only play survival mode in minecraft, i like to build big complex structures over many years without creative mode slowly toiling away at the land. and 1.9 is torture for me
it has ruined survival mode just so that the pvpers can have their "fun" (it sounds like even they dont like it)
why do skeletons backpedal away from me? sure ok its "harder" (if you think frustration is the same as difficulty) all it really means is that i have to chase after the enemy while they are knocking me back and that is sooooooo tedious, does nobody else see the irony of an update that was designed to prevent spam clicking that now has enemies dart around making combat more frantic?
i do like the attack speed system, it opens up possibilities for daggers and hammers and all sorts of other fun new weapons based on new balance options around attack speeds, but the mobs in survival are just frustrating right now, afterall what do the pvpers care about the mobs anyways?
What's wrong with the skeletons? It's basically pvp except players are more inteligent. What do you have against pvp?
It is Mojang's attempt to make PVE a bit harder. Get a shield and everything should be easier. Go into a creative world, set up an arena, spawn mobs, go into survival, and practice a bit, to get a hang of the mechanics.
i actually did that, its not that i cant, its that is annoying as hell to fight skeletons, sure some of u say oh ur not doing it the most efficient way, but heres the thing, its WORK to do it the most efficient way, fighting mobs used to be a nice sideshow while building my structures, now it demands ridiculous attention and ironically more clicks than before, and what am supposeed to do while i wait for my sword to recharge between hits, just put up my shiled and wait for that 1 second? thats so boring
I'm 100% in agreement with 007, the update is rubbish and has brought down a few notches Minecraft's gameplay experience. Then again something like this was expected from the moment Microsoft took ownership.
The new sounds are not nice either, I mean a chest closing sound that sound like a wet fart? or them squids which are now mumbling stuff non stop? and the furness?? The only sound change I'm glad about is rain as it is now more like a light shower than a moonsoon.
Maybe for the combat upgrade they should have added a new gameplay mode "Combat" along with Survival and Creative instead having a number 2 on the very, very good creative game that it was.
Sadly, these must have cost a few bundles of dollars in wages and else so i don't have any hopes that they will retract the update, meaning that I will play on 1.8 servers and probably cancel my recently purchased realms subscription. Thank you Minecraft update 1.9 team for destroying single player survival mode.
How ironic. Microsoft hasn't touched Minecraft's coding and hasn't comissioned anyone to do so. All they have done was made MC windows edition and the Hololons. I'm pretty sure you're not against those contributions, right?
Also, the sounds are liked by the majority of us here. And they added more creativity with blocks, mobs, and a new intuitive command block system.
"Microsoft hasn't touched Minecraft's coding and hasn't comissioned anyone to do so."
Irony is that Microsoft OWN Minecraft so how on earth cannot they touch it? those responsible for the update are Microsoft whether you like it or not.
Having gone through your posts and I find them rather apologetic of the mess that 9 is, call me cynical but it is almost as if you were on the payroll...
"Also, the sounds are liked by the majority of us here"
Majority of you who are into PvP that is. Everyone else (the creative lot) hates it.
Yes, Microsoft owns Minecraft, due to owning Mojang as well. And Microsoft don't have anything to do with coding/developing Minecraft. They even stated that when they announced they had bought Mojang from Notch. Now that doesn't mean that they wouldn't take full control of the development of Minecraft in the future, but I personally don't believe that they would do that tbh.
About everyone hating new sounds, I know for a fact, that not everyone hates the new sounds. There's some sounds I don't like, for example that wet fart (that was good one by the way). It's awful. And new sound of iron doors. Is just no no.

Heh. That's hilariously false. Just read the posts above me, they are all true. Basically sum this whole situation up. And no, I never apologized for 1.9. I would just like to make sure everyone enjoys 1.9, even the haters.
Nah. It's a fact. It has been confirmed. Microsoft doesn't work with Mojang on the code. They want Mojang to make all the calls as to specifically not dissapoint the community who didn't like the buyout. Seriously, look it up. And I'm not shoving ANYTHING down anyone's throats. Please be more respectful.
Edit: But they did make the Windows 10 edition. Love that.

You can always go back to 1.8 if you want to.
Want a minecraft animation? just come and ask me! I'll do it for free!

When the arrows ricochet, it's just lag. Keep trying (in the arena that AThingWithAThing mentioned). It should stop happening after a while.
Actually, it's 0.63 seconds.

By... not influencing Mojang's creative decisions despite owning the brand? What makes you so sure they have influenced Minecraft's updates?
