So, about 20 1.9 snapshots have been released, and 1.9 may be upon us soon.
Although 1.9 has angered many people who play on servers. 1.9 seems to "ruin" the mechanics of the gameplay. They're listing all of the bad things, but aren't they looking on the bright side, the silver lining?
Pros of 1.9
New Elytra item that allows players to glide
New Shield item that replaces sword blocking
Dual Wielding feature that allows a player to hold 2 items at once
New Frost Walker and Mending enchantments
Many new blocks
Many new items
New weapon physics
Cons of 1.9
Lag prevents most forms of "effective" PvP
Skilled players are now more "powerful" than strong players
Boats are now "ruined"
And that concludes my list.
Look at it, There are more Pros than Cons, right? And people are still complaining.
So, now that you have seen this thread, answer this question:
Do you think 1.9 will help or harm a server that you own or play on?
1. I am not experiencing any Lags in the new Version and you can say that 1.9 will be lagy only because its in the Snapshots.
2. Also Skilled Players are still more Powerful than Strong Players they need just to be really skilled and not just skilled in jitterclicking .....
(As long as the Strong player isn't very skilled :P)
3. I don't know why Boats are ruined now... do you mean because they are slower? Well thats not awesome but I think its a bunch more realistic and at least they are no longer so extremely buggy.
Some Contras in my Opionion are:
The Mending Enchantment as it will destroy economy on a bunch of Servers as tools don't need to get repaired or replaced any more.
(Its not rare enough to not destroy economy system and event if they were even rarer it would destroy economy over time)
Exactly the same for the new End Dungeons as they contain to OP loot even when its planned as endgame content.
A bunch of this stuff isn't really useful for servers with a economy system.

Sorry if you misunderstood some things in this thread. First of all, players could be lagging, making them impossible to hit, and the hit timer would be absolutely messed up. And the same thing could be used for hackers; their Fly, Kill Aura, Regen, and Spider would give them incredible powers. Fly and Spider could be used to evade attacks. With the new hit timer, if you landed a hit, it would be even harder to combo them effectively. Kill Aura would knock players away, so the player facing the hacker would have to wait until their weapon was recharged to land a hit. With Regen hacks, the (mostly) only possible way to kill them is by knocking them into the void. With the hit timer, knocking them back would be much harder.
Also, i slightly agree with you on some points. The Mending enchantment converts experience into durability. However, if repairing at an anvil, you would need both experience and the item used to make that tool. However, how would you repair your bow? The only way to repair a bow is to repair it with another bow, and to get more bows you need to kill skeletons which only sometimes drop bows.
The new OP loot from End Dungeons could be un-buyable on Economy servers, and in the End Ship, the items could be deleted.
I completely agree with you on con #2. I actually got them completely mixed up!
And by the way, i'm also using what other players think. Sorry if it's inaccurate.

All of your Cons are not Cons in my Opinion...
