Could you please not put "Minecraft is ruined" that really ticks me off) To be honest the "notch" apple you speak of is kinda waste of resource. Because what for? you only get a temporary buff that only last a quick time.
Also the "notch" apple can be found in dunguens (Atleast that's what it said) So that's one reason players venture the world for dunguens.
Finding notch apples in dungeons might be okay, but may bring about balance issues in multiplayer when older players, who have covered more ground, have a larger stash of gapples.
I think it was better to keep the notch apple's crafting recipe. That's all I, and many others, use gold for in multiplayer. They should solve the grinder problem instead of curbing the recipe.

They are simply making an update which caters to a small number of players meanwhile giving the finger to the community at large. I am not happy with any of the changes and strongly dislike the direction Minecraft is headed! Notch come back and save us from Micro$oft!!!!! Please!!!!!!!

this kinda also kills the purpose of the ocean mouments as they have 8 gold blocks as the reward removing the notch apple recipe was a bad idea yes it adds a more purpose for dungeons but minecraft keeps losing features it lost the amazing terrian generation after 1.8 beta the new terrian is cool and all but i miss the old one alot creepers are no longer something to be scared off anymore as they used to be more poweful and common. i agree with this we need the recipie back even if its changed craftable notch apples was a great thing and il miss that

They are ridiculously expensive. But eventually worth it. You will find a bad situation one day, and you would want to use it (eg: enderdragon battle/withe battle/nether expedition). They should nerf the cost of it... but not remove the recipe all together.
Why do I say this? Because it is a key advantage in many important battles, and I don't want to count on luck in order to have a stash, and I want to count on my effort to gather enough for a stash to use.

People who speedrun the game right now fight the ender dragon using beds with no armor... In 1.9 Mojang expects you to just waltz up to the dragon with a stack of empty bottles and fill them with his poisonous breath... I'd hardly say you need any "advantages" in that fight rofl.
The wither is a similar case. I take 2-3 hearts of damage on average while fighting the wither. This is with no potion or beacon effects, just armor.
Those are the hardest PvE fights in the game...
They also weren't that expensive, if you made a farm in the nether. Which according to the OP of this thread...

This also makes you much more likely to use them, with a limitless supply that took little upfront investment. The same can somewhat be said of overworld farms or those not on top of the nether, but both of those can take significantly more time investment to create(with far lower efficiency), so players are much less likely to make them.

You can still use a wide assortment of other buffs and items to fight the bosses. If you still can't beat them, maybe you should practice more until you can. Or maybe wear something better than leather armor? I dunno.

Notch apples stink. I'm playing survival, mining my own business when some idiot with 20 Notch apples and fully enchanted diamond armor (Where did that come from?!) comes and spam-clicks me to death. Why did they even need to exist? Minecraft PVP was already unbalanced enough.
I love 1.9. It's the only update I have been excited about for a long time.
