The golden apples and super are uncraftable, but now can BOTH be found in dungeons. So they haven't been removed, don't worry.

No they need to put it back the way it was. "finding" a finite number of items is not fun in any way for most of us. They are simply making an update which caters to a small number of players meanwhile giving the finger to the community at large. I am not happy with any of the changes and strongly dislike the direction Minecraft is headed! Notch come back and save us from Micro$oft!!!!! Please!!!!!!!
It was nearly impossible to craft anyways. All of that gold needed, which was 72 ingots in total? Pretty hard to get. Now, notch apples are a bit easier to get.
And to clarify, Microsoft is not developing the game. Mojang is. They own Mojang, but there is a difference between "own" and "develop."

People (especially on pvp servers) had gold farms BECAUSE they wanted to craft notch apples. Gold farms made them much more accessible than the developers intended. Guess what, no unlimited overpowered get out of jail free cards anymore in 1.9. Of course those that abused the snot out of them will cry about it.

Vice versa. Statistics have shown 85-90% of players prefer the changes made in 1.9 to the old ones. Don't post something that just isn't true. Also, as for the microsftand Notch thing, I hope that was a joke. I think it was. I hope.

Thank you. This I agree with. Golden apples were borderline impossible to craft and super OP to the point were you could stomp enemies 2 tiers above you gear wise. Now they are viable.
Also, besides not touching the code, Microsoft is neither behind story mode nor the upcoming movie. They have literally done nothing other than windows 10 edition which allows players who don't have mobile devices to play with their friends who only have just that. And the impressive hololens.

The overall feedback on removing the Notch apple recipe seems to be really good actually, going off Reddit (Which is the forum Mojang actually reads.) I highly doubt they'll revert the change.
On the positive side, they denerfed the normal golden apples, and golden carrots or any food with high saturation make you regen health incredibly fast. It's not like people who used the Notch apples as a crutch in PvP are at a total loss.
Notch apples were actually pretty easy to craft in 1.8 if you were willing to search for ocean monuments, as one monument meant enough gold for 1 Notch apple. I feel that gold is kinda pointless now, what do I use that gold for now? Powered rails? I guess that's useful, but not from something that takes (Or at least was suggested) Enchanted iron/diamond armor, (Or an invisibility potion I guess). I guess I can use them on potions of healing (Glistering Melons) or Golden Carrots, but considering how easy food is to come by, and the insane buff to regeneration, healing potions are pretty obsolete, and steak is a much better alternative, being more common, but with less saturation. Oh well, I guess Ocean Monuments still have sponge, and pretty blocks.
I think its a great idea that they removed them from being craft-able,most of the server I played on factions always had 6 - 20 gold farms going in the on top of nether so they could sell gold or make notch apples and had over 1500 notch apples and they set up the same build on every server they deiced to play on becoming the kings of pvp.

Concentrated regeneration potions give regeneration II for 22 seconds, the enchanted golden apples give it for only 20 seconds now.
Steak has a saturation of 12.8, golden apples only have 9.6.
Extended fire resistance potions last for 8 minutes, enchanted golden apples only last for 5 minutes.
Resistance I is only a 20% damage reduction (Separate) which is negligible.
The only thing that is left is the 8 absoption hearts, but if you were injured beforehand, a splash instant health potion or 2 can do almost the same thing.
All of the potions can be turned into instantly deploying splash, meaning the only item you actually need to take time with is the steak, making eating an enchanted golden apple only slightly faster.
The biggest benefit for golden apples now is the fact it only takes up 1 slot while providing lesser buffs. But it's ability to be stacked is almost worthless because unless you plan to do a long session of fighting, you won't be carrying around more then 1.
Sure, add it to dungeons. It'll make dungeons a bit more worthwhile. But don't remove the ability to put in proper effort to get it so you must rely on luck, especially because they're worse then a bunch of other renewable items now.

The apples have been set back to their original buffs I believe and even with lower buffs they are power full , I think a time delay needs to be put in place so after the buffs are done you have 6 sec delay before you can eat an other apple.

Oh sorry, I didn't realise being 100% invincible and overpowered with a mass craft able item (gold farms) was "fun".
I always thought the best part of minecraft was the challenge.
I have a solution if ion if you are going to be sad about not getting your vanilla invincibility..
Go into creative mode. It's called "survival" for a reason. Not "invincibility" mode
so basically the people that want the notch apple to stay uncraftable want that because they either think that is was too op for the game or to easy to obtain right? well you can always not use it is that is the case, if you do regularly pvp and notch apples are such a disbalance on these games fear not, the administrators of those sites or you if you are the administratos can always ban their use and problem solved. that is the right thing to do, is what this game has been about really, if you dont want something is perfectly ok, but there are other people that maybe want it, so when in doubt, leave everything in the game and people will regulate themselves.
i for example have never really tinkered a lots with rails and stuff, but that doesnt mean that is they remove the hopper minecart recipe in the next update im going to be ok with it, maybe i am not really affected by that, but there are going to be people that actually use that thing.
if you want another example, i usually play with the natural regeneration off, the game is too easy for me otherwise, but i would never aprove of he natural regeneration to be out of the game, what i want is a command that lets everyone play the way they want to play.
this notch apple issue is not being done well, is ok to have them as dungeon loot, but removing the crafting recipe from an item that has been there since 2012 is not a good thing, adding the recipe was actually a feature that 1.3 added, removing it now in 1.9 is ilogical.
Why don't we just remove all the unwanted features and that tiny majority can just go get mods to use them if they really want them. Mojang aren't going to add features so that server mini games work better. And hopper mine carts are hardly overpowered like Notch apples were. This is somehow your argument, that if there's a feature that is sorta disliked by you, or not used by you, it is equal to a feature that is overpowered and game breaking in terms of challenge in the game.
And if if you play with natural regen off because it's too easy otherwise, but then want God apples back. God apples make the game easier, why not just play with natural regen of instead of having invincibility on?

Eh. The Notch Apples took so much to craft it simply was not worth it. 8 gold blocks for some potion effects? Are you nuts?
Now it serves as a better reason to go to dungeons, along with serving as that special item you can freak out about finding.

Grinders made them too easy to get and ruined many PvP servers with players having stacks upon stacks of crutch apples.
