People are never going to stop doing mods, They are just taking a break from them to show the things you can do in the game now with command blocks, for me i thought about that and was just amazed at that because when the game first came out you could do nothing that you can do now, and one other thing about mods is for example mfr (minefactoryreloaded) could be done in vanilla but you would need a super PC to run it, the mod it self on the other hand could run at a good fps on "not a super PC" , and you can't do Custom GUIs with out mods.

I think modding slowed down with 1.8. I don't think it will die out. But like others have said when you change thousands and thousands of lines of code it takes a while for people to work thru the changes and figure out what is what in the code. Not to mention also that right when 1.8 was coming out you had the DMCA takedown of Bukkit/Spigot among other plugin/mod API's due to someone getting butt hurt b/c of the entire buyout of Bukkit and then the selling of Mojang to Microsoft. It is going to take a little longer for modders and everyone else that does that kind of work to get their product out b/c of the code changes with every new major version of minecraft.
It's mostly because many modders are nothing but whiny babies that don't want to make the effort to update their mods to the latest version despite having all of the necessary tools to do so for almost a year now.
Command blocks lag way less in 1.9, to the extent that they actually make decent mods. It's much easier to monitor what's causing the lag than it is with bukkit code, anyhow, and mojang doesn't break their own command blocks in future updates.
OP, if you want stable mods, you should play big servers like Mineplex. They update their mods in the blink of an eye. The mods don't look as cool because they can't do much about it in multiplayer, but they play much better than singleplayer mods. Most singleplayer mods add things that make the game too easy, or mobs that don't really fit in minecraft.
First off, you're making close to no sense. It's very hard for you to be accurate about a subject which I'm guessing you know close to nothing about. I've been around since early beta, it's always been like this. A major update comes out, we have to figure everything out which can take a few weeks, we update, bam. If you're talking about stuff like RedPower and the really good (in my opinion) mods like that, the mod creators are moving on to better things and it has nothing to do with the updates. While I can say the updates are a pain and I don't fully support them, they aren't hurting modding in any way they haven't before. And trying to replicate quality mods with command blocks? Good luck...
Here's a crazy idea. Maybe people can start enjoying the game for what it is for once? Like with 99% of all games
I started in late 2009 or early 2010, if Minecraft didn't support modding I would have left years ago. In fact, I may not have even "started". I bought the game, got bored with the lack of content and left it. It was later in beta when I found out it had awesome modding capability that I truly started to play.
I really don't understand how your "evidence" proves that Minecraft mods are dying.
I also barely understand your original post, but that's off-topic.
Mods will not die as long as there are people willing to update them. Mojang has not yet made it impossible to write and implement mods. Furthermore, simply because players can create things without using mods does NOT mean that mods are dead.
Even if mods are replaced by command blocks, that would actually be a good thing because compatibility issues, constant required updates, conflicting IDs, bugged/malware infected mods, and other issues would be solved by allowing players to create these things without the need of additional files.
If command blocks can't do a certain thing, mods definitely can do it because the Mojang still allows players to write mods.
It's a win-win situations currently.
As for why there are fewer mod showcases, it's because people don't want to do mod showcases. I've seen many mods for 1.8, and I'm expecting many more for 1.9 as Searge tweeted "Updating to 1.8 will make the update to 1.9 easier as we are not changing anything in the core files" (or something similar).
Command blocks lag way less in 1.9, to the extent that they actually make decent mods. It's much easier to monitor what's causing the lag than it is with bukkit code, anyhow, and mojang doesn't break their own command blocks in future updates.

You know that Mineplex uses plugins right ? plugins =/= mods...also I think plugins are easier to update since they cannot add new items/mobs/blocks..thus reducing the amount of code they need to rewrite...
About the "mobs that don't really fit in minecraft." part...maybe that certain mod tries to create it's own lore ? also not every mod adds OP stuff..some small mods just update the minecraft core mechanics to make them better..like NukeDuck's WallJump mod..for example or InventoryTweaks or minimaps mods..
My mod for example tries to add "adventure" in minecraft , searching for rare items and rewarding the player for finding them but hey I guess that's just how I see it..of course not everybody will agree with my view about mods
Command blocks are useless in survival mode (if they made an option of creating them then great) but they'll never fully replace mods , mods won't stop being written as long as there is interested people writing them. don't forget that mojang is working on the modding api, which is really going to upset the mod writers as they stand now (maybe/maybe not we'll see). a lot of the mod writers these days are so used to having mcp there to make things easier and 3rd party interfaces for modding eg: forge. but i can remember the times before these were around and there were mods back then. sure at the moment they are easier to write because someone has taken the time and effort to make something that'll expose and expand the hooks available to mod writers, if and when the new modding api comes out , it'll provide the hooks etc similar to forge, but it'll b official. the re-writing of a lot of the code in mc has been to make writing the api calls easier and providing a means to allow mod writers the means to write mods without the need foe mcp or forge. no need to go into the minecraft source code to do things, no more waiting for a 3rd party to update their modding libraries. so eventually as soon as a new version of mc is written the mods will either work as is or with minor changes. the big thing seems to be that programmers don';t like change and having to re-invent the wheel. and this at the moment is what they are having to do with every mc release/update.
at least that's what I've heard and have been thinking now for the last 3 or more years. its nothing new. mod writers know the situation. they are very good kind hearted people who spend hours, days, months, years . updating and keeping their mods working from version to version , my hat goes off to them. and I'm sure that any that do leave (and yes that's only natural interests change etc) more will rise up and take their place as future mod writers for this great game we all love
You know that Mineplex uses plugins right ? plugins =/= mods
Well, yeah. The biggest servers should use plugins. And the free plugins should be plugins too.
Plugins = hard to use correctly, but super versatile.
Command blocks can't do much but they're much easier to use. You can see how much lag they're making, the commands are always the same from version to version, and they can be copy-pasted onto any server easily. And this is coming from someone who knows java.
Of course updating takes ever a while in some version more than in other.
But nobody likes to update mods and I can remember that mods have been ever a version later than minecraft.
On 1.7.2 nearly all mods were for 1.6.4 and after 1.7.10 more mods updated to 1.7.2.
There are aso a bunch of mods for 1.8 the problem is that most people know them already and a tutorial or something in that direction would be pointless.
And the new versions have a bunch of benefits for example it tooke a bunch of code to create a 3D item in 1.7 and earlier while you need only to create the model in 1.8 and insert the json file into a folder.
Of Course its a bunch of work to create all the block model files but every mod that contain the old 3D blocks can keep them.
I think players will survive a log that has been spammed with information that model files are missing.
Oh and 1.9 will make it a bunch easier to create structures and new mobs.
And it might be also easier to change the loot of existing mobs.

I personally find the 1.7 model system to be better than the actual 1.8..why ? for the exact reason you said a bunch of code..you could make 1 class and in the constructor take the 3D model and other arguments and boom..1 class for every item that needs a 3D model easy right ?..but with 1.8 you need 1 json file for 1 item...ANY type of item..maybe I don't need a 3d model but it doesn't matter I still need a json file...it's ok with small mods but with big ones it means you need to make 100 json files...that is tedious :/
I have high hopes for 1.9 since the damage-texture thingy would allow us to have 1 json model with an infinite number of textures attached to it...and with a little forge black magic (using hooks) we can remove the damage bar from the items (probably never tried it but it must be possible somehow) so it will look nicer..
Also I though mojang works on a plugin API with bukkit or something like that now it's a modding API ? O_o
think of it like this modders mostlikey can do command blocks. if they think more people will do it boom one less modder and a new modder comes see what he did trys and likes it more for what ever resonin (i know i spelt that wrong i am doing factions at the same time) and again one less modder. there might be some mods but they most likey are worse then the other good mods from the people that quit

Why would someone abandon a huge, versatile system that they can use for a more limited, laggier one? Big mods can't even come close to being made with command blocks.

As a modder I've never used command blocks myself and would have to read up on the subject to make even the simplest contraption (aside from a command block with a basic command like "/tp @p x y z" and a button to activate it; I don't know much redstone either).

Pup Do your research next time... Jeez
Mods.
Will.
Not.
Die.
All these command block creations, no where NEAR the complexity of say, Thaumcraft or Big Reactors.
I don't believe that mods will die!

Also, try replicating this mod with command blocks - I bet you can't. Or even one of my much simpler mods here.
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
One command block? no.
One HUNDRED command blocks? Maybe.
One THOUSAND command blocks? Good GRIEF, do you have a super computer?
