The guys hating on the new update are the regular noobs you see on servers, accusing you of hax, forcefielding and killaura when you strafe on them and spamclick, they can't even Pvp in 1.7 because they suck, the new system requires skill which they don't have, so they can only cry.
Bring up the 1.9, it's better than anything added yet

Erm, why the stereotypes?

People who can't use logic to actually bring something to the debate tend to fall back on whatever they can use to say "idiot" without actually saying it. It's why they constantly invent or repurpose words to insult the people they don't like. The most recent word like that is "salty," but some people aren't hip enough to use the latest trends in insults. And so they fall back on old trends. These trends become stereotypes with time.
If you have an infinity bow, oh, look at that, you have an infinite number of instant damage potions.
Now that is just stupid, potions shouldn't be fireable from a bow, they should add a new item if they want to add that in, a bow is not difficult to get nor is the infinity enchantment (especially with the enchanting changes)

I agree (I'm sure they will do something). I also like the 1.8 enchantment changes as well, previously it took a long time of grinding to get 30 levels for enchanting. Now, by the time you get an enchantment I'm at level 30 & don't use it all up in one enchant.

In my opinion, enchanting has been made too easy, you can see an enchant you will get, only need 1 level for every +10 levels the enchant was worth, and you need a tiny about of lapiz to get that enchant. I always find so much lapiz that I give up on it entirely.
When you did have to grind for the 30 levels each time it made sense, but now you can kill the ender dragon once and be pretty much set for life.
Obviously the difficulty they added with the enchanting changes was that no new enchants can be gotten until all the old ones have been used, but still, it should cost some more experience points than just 3 at max.
The changes to repairing items also kinda Frustrated me because you can repair anything (no matter what enchantment it has, for example, fortune 10 billion) for less than 10 exp.
I am really hoping there is actually a way to make custom items completely unable to be repaired. (and I have tested changing an items repair cost)

I would rather have this for multiplayer, but not for single player.
I would rather have this for multiplayer, but not for single player.
That makes sense but, doing a map for example, you might have a really powerful sword that does 50 damage but you only want it to last for maybe 5 hits, so you set its damage value low enough to give it 4 durability remaining, to stop it from being repaired, you would set the repair cost to a really high digit BUT this doesn't work anymore and the item can still be repaired taking up no exp,
dependent on the enchantment/s placed onto it, the cost should go up a bit (not like it use to be but still so that it isn't easy to repair like a diamond pick with fortune 3, efficiency 5, unbreaking 3. so maybe an extra level per enchantment and then another for each level on the enchantment?
Maybe less because diamond swords can have more enchants, but not a max of 5. maybe a max of 15-20
Combat update or not, there should be more features like furnature... For example, arrows should be made with a special crafting table (i know, i know this is a suggestion). But the implementation of the new combat features is lazy!
For the pvp players this update is "awesome" I think, but overall it's a poor addition for a year of waiting... Minecraft is a sandboxgame...
Even stairs and slabs for diorite, andesite and such aren't there...
So you prefer updates that add, "blocks, blocks, blocks, blocks, new block, the new block ..." 1.9 is something innovative that we had no a long time
You know when one of the best pvpers out there says something like this, then perhaps there's something seriously, seriously wrong with this new pvp system.
Full release isn't even out yet, some minecraft player aren't even aware of the changes happening, calm down and relax, you're in good hands, Mojang's been doing this for a while, I'm sure they know what they're doing

I have no idea who the heck that guy is, and of course, Minecraft will lose some if it's fanbase. I'm sure Mojang will do something to compensate for the new change.

You're speaking my language! Now of course I think that the updated combat aspects are great for PvPers, but I really couldn't care less about them. I always look for what new blocks there are in the new updates, and yeah I also wish there were stairs & slabs for the 1.8 blocks.

Didn't even know this guy existed until now, seems like just another stereotypical PvPer who judges unfinished features too early or just doesn't want to adapt.
You'd know him if you knew any good pvpers... He's one of the best pvpers EVER.. And still is. If you haven't at least heard of him, them you've been living under a rock.
PVP will live on the changes made will just give the guy with a not so good sword a better chance against the person who has a super sword and there for has to show it off by going around a killing everyone for no reason at all and should be kicked from the server.

Whether you don't know him, or you treat him like some sort of god, his word still doesn't mean anything at all.

He must actually be not that good if he can't adapt to change.
Any sane person would realize when you need to adapt, or quit the game completely. If you have an infinity bow, boom. You have an unlimited number of instant damage potions, poison potions, slowness potions, etc... This is not something you have to adapt to, this is something you should leave behind because this update will ruin pvp forever.
