Don't get me wrong, I'm positive about the new combat and I think it can make survival more interesting. You must now prevent yourself being swarmed by mobs and thus have some more tactics when fighting them. But the changes are still quite big and not everyone will adopt to them.
Quite frankly I haven't seen a single valid argument against the new mechanics. The only thing everyone seems to say is "it makes it more complicated." Seriously? It's not complicated at all. Some weapons do more damage, but swing slower. Some weapons are the opposite of that. Swords are designed for crowd control, axes for breaking through shields. Is this so hard to understand?
For them is difficult because they do not wish to understand ...
Actually, I like the new changes. I'm not a pvp player but even if I was, I would be happy with these new changes. Remember, everyone is in the same boat. Everyone will be affected, not just you. Axes can now be used as viable weapons, so in a way, they have added a new weapon type. Even hoes can successfully be used as weapons.
However, I think they should add NEW gear now instead of changing the current gear. We have shields and potion arrows, but it could be better, for example, hammers, spears etc.
Some people are even against shields and potions arrows, and all the new additions. Do you really want MC combat to be boring forever? I know that its easy for little kids to learn but surely they could learn to use the shields and arrows? They are not THAT complicated. As long as it doesn't become as complicated as terraria, they will be fine (I would actually love MC combat to be like this).
Indeed, I agree to add new weapons (exaggerated Nothing) a spear for example, would be a good thing ...
Ah so many responds.. would read them all but.. wow..
Anyway, most of the fanbase of Minecraft is probably going through those 'nostalgia' phases. I'd ignore those kinds of people, only because the negativity can splash onto you.
Though I think I know why others don't like it. They can't fully accept the changes.
I'm sure every major update has a group of people who can't even fully grasp the ideas and they turn against them.
I'm one of those people. I cannot stand change. I dread the update a little bit, but I've been through this since I joined in 1.4. Things are going to change and I can't control that. That is why some people are so angry about updates.
Even then, some people aren't smart enough to realize that you can just download past large updates with the launcher and play them..
Honestly.. I'm still waiting for some more 'magic' in Minecraft, but Thaumcraft mod keeps me busy with that one. ;p

1.9 seems to have alot of really good changes, but, I think they are trying to fit too much into one update, there are going to be another 10 versions to try fix all those bugs.
Some changes that really annoyed me were the obsidian generator fix, the enchanting and repair update where u can reach level 30 and practically be done forever, changes with villager trades and the enderman fight changes (Enderman don't teleport all over the place and make them difficult to fight)
And speaking of obsidian generators, respawning the dragon now respawns the obsidian pillars, so if you're looking for a new way to get obsidian, there you go.

I've seen a lot of really, really bad updates to Minecraft.
This is not one of them.
If only I could upvote you more.
I joined just before the Nether update way back when. Yeah, a bunch of updates were random, poorly-planned, horribly buggy, and made absolutely no sense. The 1.9 update is the opposite. They are gathering community feedback, taking their sweet time to make sure things are actually functional when it releases, and actively working to make it more balanced and fun. This is gonna be a great update.

Paradoxical , when they heard about our ideas and they are trying to implement them we are getting angry ! That is something common , especially with people that are unsociable and want a special attention . Some of us get bored with that sentiment of love with blocks and then we are trying to take back that 'lovely' update where we have good memories that for us are incomparable to others from today . This is the result of playing the game from the beginning of it . It is like in a family : you grow , make children , then your children will do their own children and you will get lost and almost everyone will forget you .
Also , why didn't somebody think about a simple poll about who is 'hating' the 1.9 update ???
There was a post with a petition for chaning back 1.9 changes. Last I checked those who supported the petition were %10, while the rest who wanted the 1.9 changes were %90.
I never said anything about spam click being harder than the combat changes in 1.9, I was saying that they have changed things that should have stayed the same
My guess is new pvp player numbers will run inverse to the learning curve.
I agree with you
Okay, adaptation comes with time xD
For them is difficult because they do not wish to understand ...
This is currently possible xD
I think of updates as times for experimentation, not hating.
I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!

Indeed
People do not like change. That is why, they want it to be easy, not hard.
SO many people have said that.

Your point? It doesn't get any less valid.
I'm trying to say it's kinda cliche at this point.

Are you kidding? People love change. The masses suck up change like a vacuum cleaner.
The change, however, must be done correctly, and herein lies the problem.

In my opinion, minecraft is being made too easy
You seriously need a mod, because minecraft was never difficult, even back when sprinting didn't exist.

Oh, I met Minecraft in mid-December 2010, and you're right at that time updates were bad,
I never said anything about spam click being harder than the combat changes in 1.9, I was saying that they have changed things that should have stayed the same
It was never so easy that it wasn't fun though.
