I would like to show you something. Type 'Huahwi minecraft pvp 1.8' into a search engine and see if that isn't skill
So I typed "Huahwi minecraft pvp 1.8" into google and all I got was stuff about his texture pack, so apparently he's more known for his texture pack than his PvP.
I clicked one of the youtube videos and found these "pro strats" in the related links. I'll preface this by saying that Survival Games are a complete joke in any sense of legitimate PvP. Any competitive PvP of any kind in any game, regardless of genre, is very structured. Games like Hearthstone/Starcraft are a 1v1 format, games like CS/LoL are a 5v5, WoW uses a 3v3 for arenas, Overwatch is a 6on6, etc. In every game, PvP is specifically designed around rulesets, mechanics, and balancing of those formats.
Minecraft has none of that and is not specifically balanced for PvP(much like WoW, but WoW has entire PvP gearsets to help with balance).
At the start of the video, you'll see him just jumping into the void... Quite skillful I must say!
The first fight is "OH HE'S HERE, WITH AN AXE!", 2 seconds of spam clicking later, fight over.
Second fight is "OH I'MA GO FOR THIS GUY, HE'S NOT PAYING ATTENTION". So he attacks the guy in the back who's not looking at him. Of course after getting 2on1'd that guy just runs, he chases him for like a minute just spamming away before the guy finally gets bored and turns around, dying since he didn't have time to heal.
Third fight is, "We can't really fight this team of 2". So he spends 5 minutes just running around in circles basically until he figures out the most skillful strategy ever devised... Hope your opponent is so terrible at the game that they can't even walk onto a jump pad and just fall into the void... Pro stuff. With it being a 1on1, he decides to fight, 2 seconds and literally 6 spam clicks later, dead.
As we come to the deathmatch, 3 players remain. Apparently one of which has a kill aura. I guess this is where the real "pro strats" come in. Just let the other guy fight the hacker, then come in when he probably has 2 hearts left and just wreck him for the win...
Here's a comparison with Overwatch...
Granted it's not just a single game, and I haven't actually bought the game yet so don't know anything about team comps or whatever, but pretty much EVERY clip demonstrates like a hundred times more skill than ANYTHING you can even possibly do in Minecraft. Some of the headshots and reactions are just insane on a few of those clips and it's quite clear that they're pros. Basically anything I saw Huahwi do could've been just random Joe Schmoe playing.
I mean, the grapling shot at 55 seconds... The snipe at 5:20... The Tracer at 1:25? What can you do in Minecraft that requires reactions, accuracy and play like that? How about the Tracer at 2:40? The character's mechanics ALONE allow a skillcap like a thousand fold higher than anything in MC. You can't get insane outplays like the final clip at 8:10, it's not possible.
You can just listen to the commentators, they're talking as fast as they can and still can't cover the action at times. Huahwi is just lackadaisically rambling about whatever, at one point adding a most invaluable "cookiemonster, cookiemonster, cookiemonster" breakdown for 30 seconds of one fight...

It's like playing a first person shooter game, where they suddenly nerfed guns that are supposed to shoot 6-8 bullets every second and now they shoot 1 bullet every second. Now, how many FPS games will die when that happens?
No, it's not like that, and none will die. In CS, if an AWP had the rate of fire of the Mac-10 or fired a spread like a shotgun I don't think anyone would be playing it in the first place.

I dunno, when creepers explode they do make a giant sphere of air. Judging from the size of that shield, the explosion would go right over the top, into the players face.
As was already mentioned, a wooden shield could very well protect you just fine depending on the magnitude of the blast. You clearly don't know how explosives or ballistics work either if you think the explosion "would go right over the top". This may clarify for you...
As you can see in the second explosives test, the explosion and fireball actually goes AWAY from the bomb suit. Because you know, physics?
That's why the hero always jumps on the grenade in the movies. It's not so they can get blown to pieces, then have the shockwave "go right around them" and kill all their friends too... It's to contain the blast and redirect the shockwave into the ground, saving their friends.
I've never tested it but now I'm actually curious to know if someone can "jump" on a "creeper grenade" for you, saving you from the blast... I'm pretty sure they don't deal reduced damage if there's a character between you right? Those stupid zombies never seem to reduce the damage at least...

Minecraft should be very simple
People dont like the fact that it is getting complicated
Says who? For the record, it's always been complicated btw. This is from Beta. Feb. 7, 2011.
So go ahead and make your own Lux Aeterna from noteblocks, let me know how long it takes you. Remember that's from back when things were very simple, so you should be able to just whip that up in no time now! You can even use repeaters and redstone blocks to simplify things, instead of using a mess of redstone and torch clocks!
Or if that wasn't really up your alley, you could take a crack at the song that just never goes away... Darude - Sandstorm. Thanks to some command magic, you can even make it wireless. Just be warned, the Sandstorm is not easily contained once released!
I can only imagine what people will be able to make with the structure blocks that were added in 1.9! As the game continues to develop I imagine their functionality will continue to expand, like they did with 1.10.

Not really. You can keep the mechanics intuitive and easy to use, but simple mechanics give you simple gameplay. There's absolutely nothing simple about redstone mechanics for example(it's basically electrical engineering), which is why redstone creations are able to be so complex.
If you weren't able to use just one mechanic, let's say T flip-flops just don't work anymore for whatever reason, the complexity of redstone creations would be significantly more limited.

This forum has made me decide that I now want kids, so that when they get old enough, I can forbid them from coming here. it's a terrible place.
After reading this thread, I have to make this post about the immediate assumptions about how Minecraft PVP is. This philosophy only little children dislike the new combat system is outright stupid. The new system is extremely confusing, not to mention the overpowered abilities that came with the update. I'd also like to mention that nobody is deprived in 1.7 or 1.8 PVP to whoever clicks faster or has the better mouse or better setup. It's simply a placebo and everyone thinks it gives an advantage. The only thing that deprives anyone from become better are hacked clients and ghost clients (and it can't be stopped in 1.9 since you can still use hacks for a major advantage).
It seriously is extremely ignorant to think that Minecraft PVP is at all easy and meant for kids. Sure, all you have to do is press left click. However there are many strategies involved that require extremely precise movement with WASD (including spacebar), that being said it was removed in 1.9 due to the new mechanics.
Although I didn't want to get on-topic with the features of the update, I realized after writing some time on this post I realized I needed to explain the features and how broken they are to support my argument. First of all the Chorus Fruit is immediately broken and overpowered; bases once protected can immediately be raided through eating a chorus fruit. Second of all is the spectral arrow, and I think it's pretty obvious what is wrong here. One feature that doesn't negatively affect PVP but makes it more confusing is the shields and dual-wielding; such a useless addition in the game that replaces a simple right click with the sword. I didn't see a point in making this feature in the game but it is the least of my worries. Although not added in 1.9, 1.10 added the Auto-jump feature. Although I don't believe it's at all useful (since timed jumping would be more useful in PVP) some sort of advantage is present in botting how the player jumps. Also the multi-attack feature with the fully charged attacks is also broken since it adds literally forcefield to the game, a known and simple cheat. These features affect many gamemodes and styles in Minecraft PVP.
I guarantee this is the worst Minecraft update released through my 6 year experience with Minecraft and the developers.

1.9 is more complex, but not really complicated. Let me explain how each of those features you listed actually makes things more interesting.
Chorus Fruit means you need more internal defenses, or a more complex defensive system that has them accidentally teleport into a small room of obsidian with a lava trap. The need to handle it means more creative base layouts.
Spectral arrow can be used both ways, and removed with milk. Its use gives both sides more information to work with in a fight.
Right-clicking with a sword reduced damage a bit. Right-clicking with a shield is more useful and not that complicated. Besides, not having to right-click with a sword means you can use other things in your offhand slot, like ender pearls, food, blocks, and bows while still being able to attack with your sword.
Auto-jumping is as much a detriment as it is a benefit. Botting how the player jumps means they can jump at inopportune times. Granted, retreating backwards is easier, but anyone can do it, so everyone gets that benefit.
You mean the sword's sweep attack? The one you can only do if moving very slowly or standing still? You're going to get killed if you try that in real PvP.

1.9 Is the worst update that was ever made, not only they ruined combat, they took alot of the ideas from mods... Why would you suddenly change the combat when its been used in every single update before hand?
Creepers are digging systems their explosion is so strong. They make craters. That was a very small explosion you were showing in that clip, though I acknowledge your points. Well based argument.
If the game stayed simple, it would be boring and become rather stale overtime.... complexity is required for varied gameplay.
Here's the thing. "Minecraft - Imagination is the limit"
Minecraft isn't complex, you make it complex.

I agree with you, but - "Why would you suddenly change the combat when its been used in every single update before hand" Progress would never be made. I would say, however, 'don't fix something that isn't broken'.
Yes thats a better way to say it, The only thing that can possibly revive 1.9 is either a way turn off this new combat system or a mod does it for you.. It is really gonna ruin Minecraft survival in general, what about them OP Baby Zombies and skeletons? They are annoying as it is on 1.7.10 let alone without spam click. If they want to get rid of spam click them get rid of baby zombies and skeletons and get rid of skeletons with bows.
Ok, here's my take on the combat update, even though it wont be very good i think i will make some valid points.
So I understand people think that gaming today is easier than it was you know like 10-20 yrs ago (i have no idea how long ago lol) but even though its easier it doesn't mean it has to be the same as 10 years ago! But, in contrast it can also be easy, I don't really care lol I also have no idea why i'm writing this part, quote "i think i will make some valid points" xD. But seriously, so people are having different opinions on the update, some people don't like the update or change, some people think it will make the game better and make it harder because honestly, before, vanilla Minecraft was pretty easy. I think that it was a good idea to make change and make a cool down (except they should make it faster to regen to be able to hit) on hitting so there are no click spammers and it will make it harder, but at least make it useful, like the off hand, i mean EVERYONE was so excited like it would be like M&B Battlegear 2 but of course they didn't do that because they didn't take good ideas from people before (aka horse and piston, lol) i think it would be kinda cool to add some of the stuff from M&B Battlegear 2 because as you all know it was called "The Combat Update" but what we really got wasn't as good as any of us were expecting! Ok, I don't really have a problem with the hit cool down, but what really me off was there was absolutely no combat involved with the update like maybe a shield and a hit cool down but base an entire update on two features like, what the hell? That makes absolutely no sense! I'm having a issue with the lack of actual combat, in the update! I think they should make a revamped combat update with like maybe new weapons and new attributes to weapons like, hit range. You know we would have a spear an be able to hit people from a farther distance! Basically like the M&B Battlegear 2 mod but with some changes because of course Minecraft didn't take anything from outside its vanilla realm (like the horse or piston) I know i'm repeating the same thing but this is my take on the very "authentic Combat Update"
1.9 Is the worst update that was ever made, not only they ruined combat, they took alot of the ideas from mods...
You're saying that as if taking ideas from mods is a bad thing. Mods have been directly integrated into the game before (smooth lighting, mcregion format, pistons, horses, etc), so taking inspiration from mods isn't really anything bad.
However, I don't recall anything that copied mods in 1.9. To say "they took X idea from X mod" is very broad. Can you think of a new feature to add to the game that doesn't already exist as a mod? It's rather hard.
Why would you suddenly change the combat when its been used in every single update before hand?
This idea can be applied to pretty much everything in the game that is ever updated, and it seems to disregard the very concept of updating the game in the first place. "Why would they suddenly change The End when it's been like that every single update before hand?" or "Why would they suddenly change Zombies when they've been like that every single update before hand?"
On top of that, combat has been changed before in the past. Pre-1.9 combat wasn't always the combat the game had. There wasn't a hunger bar and regenerating health. Swords did more damage. Sprinting did not exist. Crits didn't exist. Bows could not be pulled back for additional damage. Armor used to absorb all damage. Splash potions used to not exist. Combat has been changed before in the past starting at beta 1.8, and the amount of complaints back then were much larger then what you see in 1.9.
I would say, however, 'don't fix something that isn't broken'.
Combat was broken. In Survival Single Player, you were an omnipotent pest control agent who played whack-a-mole to use poorly designed vending machines. In PvP, the best way to win was to take advantage of exploits that were basically "I win" buttons. Combat was not fair or balanced any way you slice it.

I think this was the logic that Mojang used. PvE and PvP in older versions was like no other game. You could take on several people at once, strafing and alternating hits. Now, the cool down time is so slow, that it is near impossible to take on a horde of zombies on hardcore, or a team of PvP players. I like the more classic feel of minecraft, and this update wasn't for me. OP shields (oh, COME ON! YOU'VE GOTTA ADMIT THAT!), I beat you with my wooden axe Mr. Diamond Sword, etc... The update wasn't entirely bad, but this wasn't the way to go in my opinion.

From my belief they have taken the updates too far, fair enough with the bug fixes that's great but adding in shields and all these other useless blocks and animals is making it more boring, I don't even use Andesite, Diorite and that, they should never had added them, the only thing about the new update that is an object of such is the armour stand because I can have my armour on there instead of in a chest that takes up room, they should add in a sorting button like in tekkit where you just press "R" and have multi-paged chests, ADD something that is useful.

I like your perspective and reasoning against me. Everyone has different opinions on how updates can change a game. I mostly am frustrated with the ignorance and assumptions made on this thread.
Been playing Minecraft for too long.
Because pvp was changed to require timing
You're saying that as if taking ideas from mods is a bad thing. Mods have been directly integrated into the game before (smooth lighting, mcregion format, pistons, horses, etc), so taking inspiration from mods isn't really anything bad.
However, I don't recall anything that copied mods in 1.9. To say "they took X idea from X mod" is very broad. Can you think of a new feature to add to the game that doesn't already exist as a mod? It's rather hard.
