Amazing! You guys just found the same problem that was present in at least the two previous complaint threads! I called it out in both, and surprisingly no one listened. I don't think the outcome will change just because this is about 1.9 instead. Inevitably, someone new will show up and respond without having read anything but the OP, and the whole cycle will continue.
Pretty much yes. You see, your replies has always been overshadowed by arguments going on in those threads. No one doesn't really reply to those replies. But like oCrapaCreeper said, everytime Zarlog or DerpSquad comes in and repost their tired and exaggerated "facts" someone else will always come out and tell them that their "fact" is utterly. And the cycle continues. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but that doesn't give them excuses to exaggerate on how long they think it takes to kill a mob with new combat system. The reason someone hates something is because of they want to hate something. It doesn't matter what they hate, when only thing matters, that there's something to hate. And this time it is combat system and shields. In other words they don't have patience to wait that 0.6 seconds what it takes diamond sword to reach full power.
I know, that what I'm going to do next is offtopic, but it has to be done:
Just about four, actually, but that's beside the point. (The fastest possible time would be 3.75 seconds.) For diamond, it should be around two seconds, and Sharpness V diamond about 1.25 to 1.5, nowhere near what Zarlog has been claiming in the past.
Zarlog: if you're so upset over the cooldown, why not just use a Power V bow? It's ranged, kills things in one hit, takes about 1.2 seconds to fully charge, and is exceedingly easy to maintain with Infinity and Mending. It was never nerfed and benefits tremendously from Mending, since it naturally uses up little durability due to its extreme damage. And it can be obtained before you have an enchanting table via fishing or an auto-fisher, so long as you have an anvil and a supply of EXP.
I will try the Power V bow suggestion when I have access to Minecraft again. It sounds like it might actually help me since I am horrible at combat with the cooldown.

I think at one point there was a command that allowed you to spam-click but would only let you attack when the meter refilled. I looked for it but it seems to have stopped existing?

It was an option inside the options txt file.
It was only added in a pre-release for 1.9.1, though it was severely unbalanced (Spam-clicking was generally better now than timing your attacks) I also think it was a bit bugged as disabling it did nothing for me.
It was removed in the final release due to it's unbalance and a bit of outlash on Reddit, though. (Which was caused mostly by said unbalance)
Since this thread is now going in circles, and because neither side is going to give the other any ground and will keep repeating the same topics of discussion with nothing new to add, there is no reason to keep this thread open any longer. There is nothing left to discuss.

I can't believe this is still going on even after 1.10 was released.
