I guess the biggest disappointment for me is the lack of any kind of in-game crafting encyclopedia. Especially considering how unintuitive the game is. Like, you take the chorus plants and cook them in the furnace to make a "popped" version, and use that to make purple blocks? Who would figure that out on their own? I often find myself having to search things up online when I'm trying to advance in the game, which I shouldn't have to do. Even other mods with progressions, like Tinker's Constructs or Botania, know to have in-game manuals.
I really have go agree with you on this one. It's a little annoying that after a whole year of working, we don't really get alot in terms of new content (I'm leaving bug fixes out of it). Still, it least we don't have terraria-like additions, so that's a plus.

With 1.9 coming soon, what I don't like about the first snapshot is that they didn't remove the blocking option, so basically when I have a pickaxe in my off hand, and a sword in my main hand, I can't use the pickaxe. Although, I'm hoping they get rid of the block move. I actually never use it.
I play hardcore only now days and the sword block is critical against creeper surprise attacks. That being said complicating an existing good thing kinda blows.
excuse? LOL. Go on kohi.us and fight some people. Sooner or later you'll come across someone that starts 8 blocking you and you can't even touch them.
I have 60 down and 30 up. My internet is amazing. And I still get 8 blocked. It's only because people live closer to the server, so their connection is way better.
It's not an excuse.
There is still nothing that Mojang can do about that though, that just has to do with how the internet works, obviously if you're closer to the server it is going to take less time for information to be transferred. This is a problem with every single game that has multiplayer servers. The only real way to fix that would be for your favorite server to pay for servers all around the globe and then you could play on the server closest to you, but Mojang would have absolutely nothing to do with that.
Basically you can't blame how the internet works on Mojang.
Most of what I have read on this thread is me no like change change is bad must hide in my cave and fight change. For the rest of us we will adapt to all the new things and rage against the bugs till they are fixed and in 4 to 6 months we wont remember what it was like with out the new features, By the way how much money does mojang make for putting out an update. Oh thats right once you buy the game you dont give mojang another dime for all the free updates.
Common fallacious arguments used:
1. People just don't like change.
2. It's free!
If you would like me to explain why these arguments are bad, let me know. I explain why so much I should just copy/paste my usual rants into a Word Document.

Wait. Can you use your pickaxe in your offhand? I though you could only use right-click functions in that hand. Like ender pearls, food, or placing things.

Granted, putting the attack function and the defense function in the same item is a bit cheap.
After thinking about what I really hate about the update. It's not the items, the content, or even the fact they changed more than they chew for most.
It's the community.
It's like this every update:
"OMG OMG NEW UPDATE! They're ruining the game it's going to suck! ZOMG why Mojang/Microsoft! WHYYYY!!!1!"
Then the update comes out:
"It's awesome! It actually doesn't suck for once!"
After about a month of the update coming out:
"WE NEED SOMETHING NEW!"
Then Mojang announces the next update:
"New update! ZOMG THEY'RE RUINING MINECRAFT!"
It's been like that for the Update That Changed The World, the forums were in an uproar over that. My goodness it was even like that with 1.8, the
"Mojang needs to revert to [Insert Old update here]." or "Why I hate [Feature] in [Update]" posts. Sadly it poisons the community like a knife in the back. Don't believe me? Look about 8 pages back to the previous updates. It's like this every time for every update. I bet when 1.9 is released, there's going to someone ranting about the combat or the End.
TL;DR Version:
[Announcement]-->[Hate of update]-->[Update released]-->[people rant about it]-->[People love it]-->[People want more]-->[REPEAT]
And even after the update is released, people say they love the update and like what it has to offer. It's just like.....like.....why the hate???
I may sound like a hypocrite, but I do agree with you. I don't like it when people complain about new updates all the time either. And it's not just with minecraft, it's with all forms of media. However I still don't like some of the additional features/changes.

How is that a plus? Are the Terraria updates too overwhelming?
The minerals added were really minor in value and they don't do anything of variety!
Though my post is probably biased thanks to how much I like mob AI implementation.
I do like diorite and granite, but I don't really get the point of andesite; it's just like an uglier version of stone. I would have picked a different color mineral. And although I'm disappointed that there are no slabs & stairs, I do like the idea of having polished versions.
How is that a plus? Are the Terraria updates too overwhelming?
Advancing in Terraria is ridiculous in multiple ways.
1. There are multiple items like, say, swords that you'll never make because you'll always have better versions. It doesn't even make sense to make wood swords when you start off with a copper sword.
2. Yes, you could do something with neat and complicated aesthetics, but it's 2-D. You might as well just paint something if you want a pretty picture.
3. Yes, you could farm items, but when you often only need one, there's no point at all.
4. Given the lack of need of setting up machines or complicated aesthetics, the only good progression is in the combat and exploration (more the combat). It is remarkably well-balanced, except when you get an item that suddenly makes you overpowered. Like a death's scythe you get from a common mook that suddenly allowed me to beat four bosses I couldn't before.
Given this, Terraria updating only makes this situation worse.
1. More swords to outdate the swords you were using. Including a sword more powerful than the self-declared "Terra Sword," which based on its description as a legendary blade made out of the essence of Terraria (and requiring a huge amount of items in a vast fetch quest), you would think would be more powerful than a sword made out of fire.
2. More pointless aesthetics!
3. More useless machines!
4. More two steps forwards, one step back in difficulty!
In Minecraft, as far as I can tell, they think more about balance and aesthetics. That isn't to say that Terraria is bad, or that I don't wish parts of Terraria were in Minecraft, but I think Terraria mostly hits the right notes because it hits so many notes at once regardless of how well they fit.
I do wish that villagers were more of a concern in Minecraft. I do wish that the difficulty curve was paid attention to. I wish that they'd iron out the bugs as much as possible. I wish that the team was more cohesive and didn't stop working every week to take a vacation. I also wish that exploration was more rewarding and that danger had more interesting consequences. Still, despite all these good parts of Terraria that I wish were in Minecraft, I don't wish for a Terraria-like update on Minecraft.
I just wish they would quit messing with it so Mods and Modders could finally catch up, Minecraft without any significant content such as mods like Buildcraft or Industrial craft add to it, its not worth playing without it IMO.
I do like diorite and granite, but I don't really get the point of andesite; it's just like an uglier version of stone. I would have picked a different color mineral. And although I'm disappointed that there are no slabs & stairs, I do like the idea of having polished versions.
Well, meh. I guess I do have to say the blocks add new varieties.
I have liked every update since I started playing (1.8 beta). Some I don't care about, but the variety they add is still nice.
However, the upcoming dual-wielding, as described currently, provides such a small advantage that it will just be a bother to use. Currently it takes about 0.3 seconds to switch to an item in minecraft. So instead of dual-wielding enderpearl-sword, you could just switch from sword to enderpearl then back for essentially the same outcome. So unless there's more to the mechanic than is mentioned, it seems to me to be basically the same as removing that switch-time and allowing you to attack while you eat/drink, except with much more complicated controls and in a way that removed block-hitting, which was what was providing most of the tactics in 1v1 pvp (even though it was frustrating to try to use).
Ah, I see. I can definitely understand that, as when I use too many mods in MC I usually end up with chests full of items that I'll never use, and it becomes a hassle.
I was just wondering if Terraria was worth getting into. I tried to play it the other day, but I couldn't figure out how to play because everytime I tried to listen to the tutorial NPC or learn how the menu worked, I'd get attacked by a slime and have to back out and kill it. I swear that happened like every 15 seconds. I finally got so frustrated that I just quit.
A ring slot would have made more sense as it is now.
The last Terraria was super fun if you kept an open wiki. The 1.3 update requires the best weapons. armor, and potions possible to kill each boss making it 100% linear. It was as if every move was dictated so we quit before finishing.
It's addicting and fun so yes, it's worth getting in to. The start might be slow and slightly frustrating depending on how experienced you are with the game but in the end you'll have lots of fun. Well it depends if you're one of those people who spend more time trying to criticize and bash on games rather than trying to enjoy them.
If I understand this correctly it's frustrating until the end and then only fun if you think positive? ZennyKenny it's a much better game than that and you should give it a shot on normal mode.
I've become indifferent to new updates and haven't even bothered following the news on 1.9 and anything I know about it is only from what I've seen in other threads.
In fact, I haven't even really played on any version after 1.6.4; never mind that I can mod the game myself and can easily revert the changes to caves in 1.7, even in snapshots without having to wait for MCP (and so much for the "customizable" world type in 1.8, which only misleads you into thinking you can customize the underground with such misleading presets as caver's "delight" - mountains full of holes are NOT caves. Even the Wiki took the bait, claiming the upper/lower limit scales only have any effect if caves are enabled) or performance issues (I half-expected the 1.9 snapshot I tested to just crash with some graphics error or such) - there really isn't anything in those updates that interests me; sure, I modded in some 1.7-1.8 features into my own "version" based on 1.6.4 but I haven't really used most of them.
The new End content? That might interest me enough to explore some of it, but probably no more than I explore the Nether right now, which I mainly see as a place to mine quartz to get XP for enchanting, explore a Nether fortress and get a stack of blaze rods, then I just abandon it; I've never bothered trying to get Wither skulls (only got two in 2+ years of playing, both by accident) because I don't see the time and effort as worthwhile, and beacons aren't that useful for my playstyle due to their very limited range, plus, like potions, most of the effects don't seem worthwhile (why do I need resistance or regeneration when I can just enchant my armor? Haste II doesn't do much when you are mining ore since it has to reach the "instant mining" threshold to get any faster, and in 1.8 Eff V pickaxes (required to instantly mine stone) are too expensive for regular heavy use with the repairing changes). Similarly, whatever they've added to the End may not be that useful either (I heard that they added beacons to something but that would not make me want to get them, other than as a decorative/trophy item, sort of like diamond horse armor in dungeons; I still use minecarts to travel between my bases and otherwise explore on foot).
So many mods, so little time.
The beacon was just for testing, and they forgot to remove it. It's being replaced with another block.
I have a new account called "Mushroomsock" now, so please do not send me PMs.

I haven't noticed that. Is it like a lot darker, or just a little bit?
That's good. So they're going to be adding another block?

My main issues are with armor stands, becomeing invincible sometimes. It's so annoying.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
