Thats what they said about the terrain with 1.7. Knowing Mojang, I bet they will somehow find a way to screw up and make boats worse than before, and then when everyone asks them to fix it again they will say "We have no plans for future changes to boats".
Don't get your hopes up.
Also, those dirt roads look pretty cool. It'd be awesome if they had an effect, like say, increase your movement speed by 75%, and maybe decreased hunger while moving. That would make them a great alternative to mine-carts, and a nice benefit for horses!

The combat system needs to be revamped:
How to win at PVP:
1. Equip a sword
2. Spam your left click onto another players hitbox
3. ???
4. Profit!
