I suppose you're right although I still find it hard to believe they didn't somehow notice it.
Its not that hard. Consider the random nature of the issue. Now consider that only a handful of people actually work on Minecraft vs the 18million that have bought and play it (Yes I know not all 18million STILL play).
Which is going to be a better testing pool? a handful of guys internally testing, or millions of people with millions of different hardware configurations? It is entirly possible that Mojang honestly did not know about the lag till after it was officially released (Or just before).

You failed to mention the 51 various blocks. Armor stands, 4 new mobs, new potions, and TONS of other various features, that I think we're worth the wait.
Yeah, but only 2 are actually useful and the rest are for decoration..
They should also even let you customize aspects of gameplay, such as using the pre-1.8 anvil repair and enchanting systems (not that hard to include the old code, which isn't very complex and parts of it are shared, such as the level cost for enchantments).
Actually, that's much like an idea I had, called "World Settings". It allows you to change pretty much any aspect of the world, like mob generation, systems, etc etc.
1. Click your Minecraft launcher.
2. On the bottom left of the screen, click your current profile, then select your 1.8 profile.
3. Play Realms!
4. Hope it doesn't lag like Nether on Overworld!

Hey, I went to modding class for 3 days. It really gave me a humbling experience to programmers.
It takes 2 hours to add 1 whole new item from scratch, including textures, effects, etc. Imagine making a new mob, including sounds, texture, animation, drops, behavior, AI, entity tags, spawn, etc. Same with biomes, except biomes are even harder, so don't go asking so much from Mojang.
It's true that takes about 2 hours, but when we're talking about months of development we're talking about code rewrites and coming up with concepts for the game. I think what screwed over time management with 1.8 was the fact that they were going hardcore for getting the API up and going but also doing many other things in between and stretching themselves between games. It's a tactical error.
And face it guys, the amount of time they took with breaks, they could have made another major update. There was so little activity in the Minecraft sphere that I almost forgot about Minecraft in general.
How about the 17+ million people who play Minecraft? What about them? Our community is much smaller than 17+ million. Not all 17 million people have 1.8 lag.

How long did it take you to ask all 17+ million of them? Or are you just making meaningless statements?
I just can't believe that this hasn't been fixed yet. Talk about 1.8 being a lazy update... Geez apparently game-breaking bugs aren't a priority anymore. This is pathetic.
Wow, the ignorance in you comment is through the roof, half of minecraft is for building/decoration, entire youtube channels have been created just for building!!! (Bdoubleo, part of Ethos channel, VintageBeef, ect.). You are so selfish and ignorant, learn to be thankful and appreciative for what you have, you dont deserve to have it.

Most of the time in the update probobly went into the name changes.
Another thing that would be awesome is a crossbow. Instead of just the bow. It could have a sight, and better accuracy so it wouldn't arc.

Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
All in all 1.8 was not good and i think i speak for everyone when i say COME ON 1.9!
For you, for others 1.8 was a godsend, map makers would be thrilled at the things 1.8 brought to the table. Not all updates have to cater to every player, 1.8 attempted to do so but I bet you if it didn't lag so much for some people, there wouldn't be that many complaints.

You said yourself that you aren't a programmer, so any statement you make relating to programming and the supposed slowness of mojang to find and fix the issue is worthless. You have zero experience and understanding of what it takes to program. So unless you have an actual statement by Mojang that they are actually ignoring the lag issue, please, shut up about this and wait till the next update is released.

Not everyone has lag. I was saying that out of the 17+ million, not everyone has lag. I don't have lag - so you couldn't say that everyone has lag.

Why is this thread still relevant, the update game out almost 5 months ago.
Seriously, the fact that people are still discussion whether it was a bad update or not just proves that the MInecraft fanbase consists of kids that won't let go off something that has gotten old, if it's Minecraft or this topic.
Sadly so. This topic just rehashes content every few pages:
"1.8 was bad"
"No it wasn't"
"Yes it was"
"1.8 was laggy"
"No it wasn't"
etc.

your probobly right. I also think that some people were expecting mote though.
then could you prove proof that 80% of the community is not laggy? i will not dismiss his theory until YOU proved enough proof to prove that only a small amount is lagging....
The burden of proof is always on the claimant. I'm not claiming any numbers, but you are.

Point taken.
At least they actually credited DrZhark for the Horses, unlike here..
Then why didn't 1.7.10 take so long?
