I concentrate on building, so ofcourse I think that way. Lot of new blocks, a long needed and ask'd different doors. Fences are now in different colors (also really big thing for builders). A new cute animal rabbit is there. Armor stands are nice addition, they bring nice thing for decoration! (I think many agree on this, since medieval is a big thing atm)
Not to mention the banners. I think they did very nice job on that. But it is true that making all of this took too long, but Mojang isn't proper game studio. For example, those two unwanted small games coming. They don't concentrate enough on certain things.
Well, they have a team of 15-20 working on Minecraft, Minecraft is Java, etc. And Survival on Hardcore isn't hard at all.

If they really need ideas for updates (I dont think that's the problem however) they could check the suggestion forum. There is a lot of good ideas but hardly any of them are noticed, like 0.6% of the great suggestions are noticed. And really, furniture would be a great idea and there is no reason not to add it.

Yes. cause I totally spread gold bars on my toast...
Their size doesn't make them proper, it's their actions and how they roll. Putting up two small games under work, while you just got one in full release was just ridiculous and showed how unprofessional they were.
Yes, that's what I mean.

Mojang arent obliged to make updates for this game. Just be grateful they are releasing these free updates for us.
I don't agree with this line of logic.
1. Mojang doesn't have to make updates for the game? Keeping a game updated and fresh is what keeps it alive and new. If the updates were dropped right after 1.0, do you think as many people would still be playing it? A lot of people still would but more people would be getting bored and leaving. And they aren't in any way obliged to make updates for the game?
2. Just because something is free, that doesn't make it good. This line of logic is actually doesn't help the help the developers in any way, shape or form; it hurts them more than anything. If an update of a software has issues, are we not allowed to discuss and share negative feedback about our experience for the sole reason it's free? How does that make any sense?
3. Because it's free, why does that make all the arguments made invalid? "Be grateful" doesn't address our problems with the update, it dismisses them.

That's the thing. There are no 'problems' with this update being addresses here. this is just people complaining about the time that it took and they don't like armor stands and rabbits. If there were genuine problems being brought up here, then fine, be grateful is and awful solution. But this is just people complaining. The ONLY way to get rid of your problems IS to dismiss them, because there are no problems being brought up here to fix. And mojang DOESN'T have to keep making updates. You have stated the reason that they do, but there is no reason for them not to stop tomorrow, that's the point. When we all bought the came, it's because we liked it. All of the updates have been a free bonus on top of what we had originally. They could release each new update as a micro-transaction (or, in layman's terms, a DLC) if they wanted to, and earn so much more than they currently are, but they don't. Hell, they have even banned other people from doing that on servers!
Yes. It's completely optional. They could have stopped at any point they wanted to, but they didn't because they want to keep the game alive and the community happy. But now people, like yourself, have come to expect them to continue releasing updates while all you do is go on their forums and tell them that they are crap. They could stop working on this game right now and leave it with the rendering errors, half finished modding API, no name changing system and whatever else people want. But they don't.

You have no idea how commerceworks, do you?
That entire time you say Mojang was working so tirelessly, they were also cashing mad money. They were selling more games (because improved games sell better than crappy, bug-ridden ones) and making licensing deals with Lego, plush toy manufacturers, t-shirt companies, etc.
NONE of that would have happened if they had failed to fix the errors, and the game went down in history as a big flop because of bad coding and resistance to improvement. The $2.5 Billion would never have appeared.
Companies don't improve products because of a sense of obligation, duty to consumers, or because they want to "keep the community happy." They improve products because a good product sells more than a bad one. Good products that work sell more licensing deals than bad products that brick your computer.
If you don't believe me, go ask the developers of DUKE NUKEM FOREVER.

That is an entirely fictionalized account of what people are saying. Among the nit picks, people are making valid gripes.
It's what they call a straw man argument, and it's entirely in your head, and not reflective at all of the actual conversation being had.
There are no valid points being made here. The valid points are being made elsewhere where people are reporting ACTUAL PROBLEMS, like the water temple lag. This is just 56 pages of people complaining. If you see that as being valid points, then to each his own.

That's a reasonable place to stand, I share a similar opinion.
In my case, poster didn't state who they were responding to and said to stop complaining. There will always be people as stated earlier who will go "This update sucked, these features weren't of any use to me so they are stupid. Stop taking so long, you suck." Looking through my older posts I found in the past even I have made this argument.
Complaining can be a good thing, it can be helpful to the creator or it can be useless. It really depends. If I say "Armor stands are a rip-off!" that isn't helpful. It really depends on the scenario, a thread trying to find the root of a issue or giving useful feedback is helpful; however in this thread's case, not too constructive. I agree with you there.
I wouldn't say there isn't nothing stopping them from charging for updates, if they want to keep their players on the good side. When you have given free updates for years, wouldn't charging all a sudden cause a massive outrage? When the smallest of things happen, you see people demanding a refund. Especially since the community has a lot of young children who don't have any money to pay for it. There isn't a physical force-field preventing them from doing this but would be a very stupid move. It would discourage new players from joining, a lot of people would leave and not all kids have the money to purchase the updates. I wouldn't say will certainty, it would help their profits, especially in the long run.
As for the EULA, that was always part of it. They got a bunch of complaints about people getting ripped off and begun to enforce the rule. I don't think they are greedy but their reasoning for not letting people take your product and make money off it and not selling game updates might not be related.

They don't have to keep it alive and new though, sure they would lose players from not updating it but that doesn't mean they HAVE to update it.
As Mister_Mystery_ said, there is nothing wrong with this update. Yeah, it may have taken a while to finish but that doesn't mean it is a bad update.
Like what I said above... You are paying for the game in its current state, you are not guaranteed updates.

I don't think the new update is a bad update, it's one of my favorites. I just wanted to point out Mojang do have a reason to keep updating, to keep the game alive longer. That's all.

Why is there a high tendency to have a bad update of Minecraft?
Well, you do have to consider the fact that a lot of the comunity was having a hard time updating projects and modifiers due to the consecutive updates. 3-5 months between updates isn't really enough time for most developers to update plugins, and when they do the changes are so drastic that servers have to reset maps, particularly survival servers which isn't really nice because people have a lot of projects they were in the middle of before suddenly hearing they have to give it all up.
As for the ripping things off part, the EULA and I believe the agreement before stated that any mods or plugins someone makes are technically under Mojang's care since they have to let it be an option to add to the game anyways, so technically adding in such stuff is all ok on the legal side of things, though not on the morale part. (tsk tsk tsk ) I actually liked that there wasn't a major huge update for a while. I don't care that it took them forever to make this update. One thing they did make sure to do is eliminate a LOT of bugs in the new items that were present before the official update. And, I really don't care about feature updates, I really care about updates to the redstone API as that is something that really is unique to this game and all of the lag and bugfixes, which makes the game all the better. Major updates like these I've hated with a passion because I didn't find it necesarry, even when I started back in 1.4 few months before the 1.5 update. I thought it was cool, but I realized that it was an entirely different game I was dealing with to me at first, sure, I really enjoyed the redstone as that was becoming something of interest to me. As for 1.6, didn't find horses necessary, I still never use them. 1.7. . . that was necessary for the terrain fixes. I thought it was good. 1.8. . . WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING? THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!! I still play on 1.7.2 because that's where the server I play on is at. Sometimes I will use 1.8 for a minigame server.

You are just 1 out of 1000 who don't know what to do with these changes they did.
They did so much for the API (i hope release will be 1.9 or 1.10) you can't appreciate. internal handling of blocks, light, texture etc. the listed commands are just the things you see that they added, most changes are internal. all of those commands will be part of the API in some way. Pure speculation: every command will translate into a function API-wise (with identical input vars)
PS: they added a "custom world" option where everyone can adjust values for the terrain generation.
PPS: they will never create realistic terrain if you mean that with worldgen overhaul.
A mod informed me on a bug report once that they plan to take data values out of each block before the 1.9 update.
So different stones being 1:0, 1:1, 1:2, etc will all have new numbers. Bigger, internal changes are definitely coming.
Unfortunately, it's changes like these that aren't appreciated by the general playing masses. It'll be so useful and great, though.

Every update when they add new content always have something for people to enjoy.
1.Command Blocks with the new commands can help many people to design the maps they want with new and improved command lines.
2.Water temples can add new farms and a new ocean mob, adding a bit of adventure into the game and new farming designs.
3.Armor Stands are for people that want the decorative piece of minecraftian design in one's home.
