1.8 sucked. Diorite and granite look like crap, the rabbits look like crap too, and the armor stands are pointless. Mods will take a huge amount of time updating to 1.8, too. I did like the slime blocks, but they weren't even Mojang's original idea. The zipkrowd guys came up with it. The only really good thing Mojang did was the ocean monuments and the guardians. And for basically a year, that's really terrible.
well, most forms of rock aren't the most exciting things texturewise... discarding the ones i looked at on a beach the other day, but then i have an unhealthy geology interest. the rabbits look how minecraft rabbits should look. the armour stands are only pointless if you don't like armour stands... and without them we wouldn't have had the DocBot plus you can put them in minecarts for very silly things to happen... i like silly things. silly things is minecraft.
They also changed a LOT of other things, spectator mode for PVP servers [which i'll never use, but it's a natural and great addition to the game], lots of new command features for map makers [which i'll also never use, but is also a great addition to the game] - new server internals, new skin system... i could go on for pages... but better you read the page yourself methinks... they also fixed a shedload of bugs...
Zipcrowd came up with the slime blocks, but mojang still had to implement it, and fix a tonne of issues the blocks caused.
Mods always take a long time to update, that's the way it is, not this update's fault... in fact, the reason you say this - and it is true, is because of so much changing in the game, which you also deny has happened, so make your mind up hey
And they haven't been working on just 1.8 for a year you know... there's been 1.7.2, .4, .6 and .10 - those updates didn't come out by magic, they had to develop, test, change, test again...
yeah, so true. I don't really want to argue with the EULA Changes, but the EULA is the EULA, and it's bad. I think. Minecraft is really too easy. I wouldn't be surprised if they added a 'Trivial' difficulty that you can't even take damage nor die due to hunger, and it's even easier than peaceful.
Yea. I would love for everything Minecraft too be perfect. Have you seen a horse on a server with like 30 people that runs great? They look like if in real life you could see something at like slideshow fps.

Hey, please check these links out if you're looking for a unique Minecraft server:
You are posting more harping comments about other people than you are about MC. I think YOU are the one off topic now. You have the ability to flag posts, use it. Otherwise, I suggest you let the conversation take it's course.
The 1.8 update and the sale of MC are interrelated in this conversation, as they represent (to many) two recent events that show a pattern of Mojang carelessness towards their customers. If you can only process one concept at a time, that's on you. Some of us can walk and chew gum at the same time.
FYI: at 140 posts, don't kid yourself into thinking you are a moderator.

i wasn't... in that instance you cite, i was helping someone on their first post, who was asking for a thread about updating the xbox version. that's just human nature for me to point them in the right direction... with the other post: if you can't take a lighthearted joke about a thread i'm interested in reading, then that's fine by me. i can do many things at once, thanks... it's just amusing to me how things diverge. everything i said was in a light hearted mode... so please stop making accusations about my character or what i think i am, it's not necessary. cheers.
Well, TBH, it's not like you can a make anything useful for MC. Remember that updating takes time and skill. I highly doubt you know a single Java code. So all of you guys can just be quiet until you show me a powerful update.
Anyways, Microsoft had just recently bought Mojang so I bet the Mojang crew was worrying and making tough decisions on that. Don't forget about the Realm updates for others. Don't just think about yourself, for the sake of the community.

this is the reason why notch quit mojang and sold it to microsoft
So some of you are saying you don’t like playing Minecraft because of an update... I’m pretty sure that you can still play the older version and anyway it’s not like they have removed any Items or features. That’s our opinion any way. And everything is added for a reason.

You are just a spoiled brat. Your momma needs to put a whooping to you. Don't like it? Don't UPDATE! Check forum first before you update if you're going to be a little greedy child about what's updated. You are 1 reason to why Notch bailed out on us is because of you kids complaining over things that they took their time to put in and give out to us for FREE. Which they don't have to give it to us for FREE. They can charge ,but which they aren't. Sorry but your the type of person I'll forever take hatred to for being so greedy about what gets put in.
I personally like 1.8 quite a few things they added ,and I like it. Rabbits make great addition IF YOU HAVE AN IMAGINATION. TO add them to whatever your imagination comes up with. Everything has a purpose to MC. Each item you just need to come up with a CREATIVE IMAGINATION ,and work with what they got.
usually, aye. depends whether one gets them + likes them or not, i agree. still no need for you to be so reactant about 1 post asking to keep the thread on track... it's only minecraft we're talking about here... it's a game, played for fun.
i do like 1.8 though, really nice stuff added, and i think my favourite update for fun things since, well the redstone update, i think. shame it's time coincided with the other debacle, but i still don't feel that has any relevance to the update in the slightest.
The problem is that bugs only get fixed by updating.
Exactly. And I would have much preferred fixes to minecart physics, boat physics, chunk errors, hang times, memory optimization, shadows, lighting.
The guy who wrote Better Than Wolves was right then, and still. They keep adding some features of minor importance (banners, fireworks, armor stands) that add bulk to the code. Then they add desired things, but hose it up. Horses are a joke: you ride for thirty seconds until it falls into some water, and since the AI doesn't tell them to walk to shore, your horse is stuck. And, of course, they can't maneuver through forests at all. Then they layer on impossibly complex programming stuff that appeals to ten nerdy YouTubers and no one else, like comparators and goobleflitzers and wankifiers, or whatever. I can use Minecraft to code a program that allows me to spell out a word? WOW! Too bad I can't load the game without hacking my RAM settings.
The slime block thing is probably the most important add, from a functionality standpoint, but it's a rotten approach.
With 1.8 I think the best things are the new blocks and the new undersea mobs. (Even those are irritating, the way they constantly hack your sound while attacking squids ad infinitum.)
But we still can't make stairs out of any texture? You know how simple that is to code? (Simpler than adding new textures.) Uff.
Firstly, 1.7.2, .4, .6, and .10 were only annoying changes to me. I'm a big builder in minecraft, and I use player heads, so those updates were pretty much completely useless for me. FOR ME. This is a thread about opinions. Besides those updates, 1.8 took very close to a year.
The reason I dislike the new rocks is also because I'm a builder. Honestly, they're the worst textures ever added to the game. The rabbits look completely unnatural, almost puppet-like. Look at the way they move. It's really badly done.
I never said that they didn't add a lot of stuff, I just said I didn't like most of it. And I complained about mods taking a long time to update because the update was huge. I know it was huge. They didn't call it "The Bountiful Update" for nothing, I know. I'm just saying that for such a huge update, there doesn't seem to be a lot of quality content. I understand that bug fixes and such are good, but really, for 10 months and the biggest Minecraft update ever, they could have done better.
I appreciate the skins update, I forgot to say that. The 3D texture pack support is also fantastic, I just wish they add the same support for mobs as well.
I know that Mojang improved the slime blocks, I just said that they didn't come up with them. I was trying to say that the slime blocks were the best concept in the update, and Mojang didn't even come up with it.
99% of normal players will never get into the "stuff for mapmakers". I would hardly call adding a bunch of specific commands content.
I don't understand why several of you have jumped on me for "hating" or being "ungrateful". I was stating my opinion of this update, which is EXACTLY what this thread is for. Attacking and insulting someone because they're stating their opinion is ridiculous. The kind of self-righteous "you suck cant you be happy at everything dumbass" attitude is really annoying. Sadly, I know it's unescapable on the internet, but frankly, I expect decent people to act decent.
I bought this game. It wasn't free. I am VERY grateful that Mojang keeps updating it, and I don't dislike Mojang, but honestly, they're professionals. The updates are how they attract new players and keep the old ones. So why can't they just think over what they really should add, what would be best for the game, not what would be the best gimmick. I would really appreciate little changes like stairs, walls and slabs for every full block, or maybe just better integration of spawned structures into the terrain.
I don't hate the 1.8 update, I just think for the time spent on it, they could have made better quality changes.
What I hate is how people constantly complain about every update and dont look at the upsides.
I said this earlier and people came and said quit complaining
and found anything bad about what I had said. Now people are complaining about Microsoft on a 1.8 hate thread. We can't fully blame it on the people who hate this update but part of the reason notch sold mojang is cause of this. It was for his sanity
