Reminds me of the court battles between Apple and Microsoft over the similarity between System 6/7/8 and the Windows GUI and now the battles between Apple and Samsung over bouncing icons and swiping.
Even if it looks different the fact that someone else had the idea first and it was stolen by someone else doesn't change the fact that it was indeed stolen.
You can't own an idea. You can't have rights to an idea. You can't steal an idea.
You can have rights to a document/file/image/etc (copyright), you can have rights to a trademark (trademarks), you can have rights to an invention (patents).
Using earlier ideas and building on them is done every single day in every industry on the planet. It isn't stealing. It's how innovation works, and it's a wonderful thing.
example for giving credit, horse were made by a guy named doc something (i wanna say zed or zak but am not sure) when mojang wanted to put them into the game (still not a good idea) they got that guy to help them code it in now thats giving credit where its due and even on the wiki it says it was made with help by the mo creature mod
Because they used his code for horses (with his permission).
I believe that it shouldn't have taken 10 months+ (not released yet) for it to be finished. Also, survival is just not hard anymore. All I play on is Hardcore, and sometimes Hard, and my only threat is jumping off a cliff when not paying attention. Zombies can break down doors, but you can just make your doors to the outside metal or something. Creepers, at least on a certain gamemode/difficulty should be trying to break down walls and exploding without a human near them, that type of thing.

Hey, please check these links out if you're looking for a unique Minecraft server:
Whether or not X exists in "meat world" is not the subject and is completely irrelevant.
What matters is who incorporates something first and whether or not the popularity of that causes it to be added secondary to something already existing.
For example Apple popularized the GUI and that's why Microsoft essentially stole it (putting the "menu" bar at the bottom instead of the top was just a superficial way to argue that Microsoft "really" wasn't copying MacOS.
Would Mojang have added armor stands were it not for a mod already having this and that mod being popular?
Perhaps that is why the EULA prohibits mod makers from making money from mods that way they can't earn anything from the mod to support legal proceedings. Just makes it easier for Mojang to steal those ideas as well.
If mojang dident add anything from mods they couldent add anything

Yes. cause I totally spread gold bars on my toast...
Whether or not X exists in "meat world" is not the subject and is completely irrelevant.
In a patent lawsuit it would be vitally important. It's called "prior art".

No, none of that matters at all.
For example Apple popularized the GUI and that's why Microsoft essentially stole it (putting the "menu" bar at the bottom instead of the top was just a superficial way to argue that Microsoft "really" wasn't copying MacOS.
Apple patented their invention (their OS - they didn't invent the GUI). They took MS to court over their patent, not an idea. You can't have rights to an idea. You can't own an idea.
Would Mojang have added armor stands were it not for a mod already having this and that mod being popular?
No-one knows (probably not even Mojang), and it doesn't matter anyway.
Perhaps that is why the EULA prohibits mod makers from making money from mods that way they can't earn anything from the mod to support legal proceedings. Just makes it easier for Mojang to steal those ideas as well.
You can't steal ideas. Unless Mojang used someone's code without permission (they haven't) then they've done nothing even remotely wrong.

and by the way, Mojang is shutting down optifine. Mojang controls minecraft, they can add any mods they want to it. the Optifine creator was just a mean kid who wanted money by giving away "capes" that they are free capes with cape mods like MCCapes... then people started scamming it... so Mojang wants to stop that, so they are shutting down Optifine.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
My post:
So... What you are saying is that you are unwilling to support a man who decided to try to improve the render system of Minecraft by adding features (fog control, animation options, HD textures) to the game, right?
Anyway, I don't think Mojang could even shut down Optifine even if they wanted to. It isn't theirs to shut down, unless they purchased it from it's creator.
And why would you think the creator of Optifine is just some mean kid? I'm pretty sure he would need that donation money for software, hardware, and other things like developing the mod he began. Honestly, do you think it's easy to make a good, working, maintainable mod that has thousands upon thousands of users, constantly demanding the next updates?
Whoa guys before you keep on about stolen idea's have any of you sat down actually read Minecraft's EULA? Any mod that is made public though the game can be taken and adapted. You agree to this when you install the game.
If armor stands in Minecraft were created by another entity and if enough people associate armor stands in Minecraft with that other entity then, yes, it does apply.
Nope.
It would have to be commercial, the second stand would have to look deceptively like the first, there would have to be damage caused, etc.
Does not apply, in any way whatsoever. A very silly argument.

Mods are not made available on or through the game. (I.e. they aren't distributed by Mojang)
Mod authors have copyright over their code. (They don't own any ideas - no-one does)
Wrong again. There does not have to be a commercial - for - profit component or a patent or even copyright/trademark registration, and, in the digital world, the simple "look and feel" is sufficient enough for protection.
No.
Have a look at the Lanham Act. It must be commercial.
Patents, copyright and trademarks are not being discussed (they also don't apply).
"Look and feel" applies only to websites. And the armour stand looks nothing like the bibliocraft one!
1.8 honestly didn't give that much, considering that it took a whole year. The most worthy thing I found out of the updates was the new ocean guardians, which were actually pretty neat. But a lot of the stuff like the armor stands or the commands, I really don't find much interest in; plus it isn't that great since it took a whole damn year.
How in the world are armor stands useful? Why the heck would you want to show off your armor? It doesn't make much sense to be, TBH. Seems like nothing but a pointless scarecrow or a closet. I know that in ancient times there were armor stands, but it just doesn't make sense in Minecraft.
Also I don't get these crap load of summon commands; don't see how they are useful either.
Other stuff they added:
- Granite, Andesite and Diorite stone blocks with smooth versions
- Slime Block
- Iron Trapdoor
- Prismarine and Sea Lantern blocks
- Ocean Monument
- Red Sandstone
- Banners
- Coarse Dirt
- Guardian mobs with item drops
- Endermite mob
- Rabbit with item drops
- Mutton and Cooked Mutton
- Spectator Game Mode
- New achievement
- Customized world type
- Hidden "Debug Mode" world type
- New commands
- New player model
- New options for configuration
^ Now this seems like a lot of stuff, but considering that it took a whole year.....I'm just really not impressed. Also, many of the features that Mojang implemented were taken from mods, such as armor stands. In fact, Mojang was actually going to get Optifine into the game but the creator of Optifine didn't allow it.
I really expected more, such as an overhaul to the terrain generator. I know that in the previous update there were many new biomes added, but I and many others for a few years wanted more variation and hilly terrain. And no, amplified just creates a mess that doesn't even make variance/sense. Or just something that would actually change Minecraft.
First of all, it was mainly a map maker update that added a ton of stuff that you don't know because how inconsiderate you. I mean you try to code all of this in a year. Mojang don't sit on chairs all day and code, they have families as well you know!!
Second of all that part about the owner of optifine not allowing it to get programmed in to minecraft is bulls**t because Mojang holds ownership over minecraft and if they what to code in and put content of mod in to the game, they are allowed to!!
Which is barely anything for a year. Seriously, 300 days they could have done much more. Dude I said all of the features added in the OP. Beta 1.8 or r1.7.2 took less time yet showed us much more useful stuff. I really dislike when kids tell me that just because the features are not appealing to me doesn't mean that other people can't find them useful. It's true, many of them are useless. I haven't found one person on this thread that has found use of these commands.
Plus I hate how they added mutton. Even though sheep food was a popular demand doesn't mean it should be implemented, just like how people out of their mind like to suggest obsidian/lapis/emerald tools. Minecraft is just getting too easy as they add more food drops from mobs. I loved how back in Beta if you ran out of food in a cave there was no such thing as rotten flesh from zombies or spider eyes.
The best part is no one even seems to understand the complaints. They just think we are not happy with the additions, no, wrong, we are not happy about how long it took them to officially release them.
There's no going back in time and making Mojang do more at this point, 1.8 is finished, it was a mostly internal update with features to keep some people entertained. Dissapointed? Oh well. This thread is going to get the same replies over and over again until it dies or gets locked, you just have to deal with it.
From a normal, survivalist and creative style player's point of view, 1.8 is definitely a boring update.
From a mapmakers point of view it will add a lot of things that will enhance maps by a lot.
Quote from trollsack»I haven't found one person on this thread that has found use of these commands.
That's because you are talking to the general minecraft community. By 'general' I mean people who just play minecraft as it was designed- Survival/creative/multiplayer. If you post this on the mapping and modding section of the forums, you will get a completely different response.
I for one can see a lot of potential in these commands.

How about trying to re-make this post on the mapping and modding sections to see what they think? I'm pretty sure you'll get a different response altogether.
Or Reddit for that matter, since a lot of people have been posting their creations with the new 1.8 content. This forum isn't exactly innovative when it comes to creativity within the game itself, it's a discussion forum.

Yeah true. Mapping and modding/ Reddit and Plant minecraft will have 100% different opinions on this topic.

Which doesn't apply to Mojang or armour stands.
I hope this means you're learning that ideas can't be owned or stolen.
If you are trying to say trade dress protection applies to armour stands in minecraft you are utterly and absurdly wrong.
