I know what you mean; instead of all of those obscure settings they should just replace them with user-friendly labels that tell you what they actually do, such as "increases/decreases hilliness of terrain" and not "main noise scale whatever" (or whichever option controls vertical stretching).
Exactly. It's so obvious this game is made by coders instead of coders+artists+designers, everything looks like it must be as geeky as it gets, translating in more and more obscure stuff added every update (I still can't accept the idea of learning a pseudo-coding language to use command blocks, for example). I couldn't use the world customizer until the wiki had enough information added (it took at least 3 months) and even with that infos I created the preset I'm using almost by chance. It must be cool for kids wanting to become tomorrow's coders but for the rest of us it's a friggin' nightmare.
As mentioned before, they also didn't consider adding in any customization of structures; changing how often they generate, how big they are, etc, only on/off, except for dungeons, lakes, and ores; I'd rather see settings to control the number of caves instead of how many ores or dungeons generate (and the changes they made to cave generation in 1.7 show that they know what variables to change). Never mind that Superflat allows you to change the size and distance between villages and many other structures, which means the game already had code to set the corresponding values, and the same classes are used in normal and Superflat worlds.
Yeah! They took, what, 8 months (?) to pre-release 1.8 and all they added to Wedge is an option to generate Ocean Monuments and new stones, and that's it. Want very big but very rare ore veins? Nope. Large Oceans but normal sized continents? Nope. Only 5 biomes instead of 1 or all of them? Nope. Large and flat Beaches without making all the world large and flat? Nope. What about customizable biomes? You must be joking.
If Mojang apparently hates their fans so much then why KEEP working on the game?
Apparently because frequent content updates (including snapshots) keep the already acquired user base interested in the game and that keeps sales high because more players keep playing, more new players keep coming. They basically admitted it in a random panel at last Minecon: if they only did bugix/security updates sales could go stale.
They don't hate us nor they love us: they just want us to buy their products. Welcome to the business world.
1. You can go back to v1.5.1 for no more weather clear bug - you don't need 1.8 to get rid of this bug. You still have a choice.
2. You've presumably been playing, and putting up, with this bug since around May 2013 - obviously it is most definitely not a bug you can't stand (if it was you would have been using 1.5.1 instead, or not playing at all).
3. If you upgrade to 1.8 (and it sounds to me like you will) it can only be because you've evaluated the pros and the cons, and decided that 1.8 delivers a net benefit to your minecraft experience. That's why gratitude is appropriate.
but what i think we is trying to say is that why cant we just have a simple bug fix to solve problems instead of having to update is it that hard to just send out an small update to fix old bugs and you DON'T have to use the most modern version of the game?
ok here is an example of why point you said is the best option for him example, back in beta 1.7.3 to beta 1.8 (long time ago but who cares) beta 1.7.3 had the best terrain like i mean the terrain today still looks bad compared to it but beta 1.8 changed it (it was awful terrain) but you had to update if you wanted bug fixes for many bugs (a lot of broken piston ) but if you wanted those bug fixes you had to update even if you hated the update which in a way is not fair to the player.
but that's just me and i have been playing beta 1.6 for the last 3 years or so (back in the glory days) but what ever
You could just upgrade to 1.8 for the bug fixes and not use any of the new stuff. Nothing in the new update changes how it sounds like you play survival and creative (aside from Ocean Monuments, New stone blocks and the new enchantment system). I'm not sure why you guys are still arguing, no one actually will see "Oh! Obviously Leslie's opinion is SOOOO much better than mine!" most people stick to their opinions.
I agree with Chesterfloood. 1.8 added some stuff. Some updates have cool things you will like, some updates won't. Why upgrade then to 1.8? If Mojang apparently hates their fans so much then why KEEP working on the game? In fact, because this PURELY OPTIONAL UPDATE* has no new features you like, you flame on it instead of playing it and getting used to the new items and such. These arguments happen every time Mojang releases a new update. Someone complains that the update didn't add anything cool. Arguments ensue.
Sure this update (to Leslie) didn't add a lot. Then play it. You might not like the new features but hey you get bug fixes. There's no reason playing on an outdated version anymore. 1.8 added a lot more than you think, and most of it you won't come across in your travels in survival (exception with new stones and ocean monument and enchantments again) and in creative you might find the new blocks useful eventually. You had an argument about Armor Stands, saying they are useless. They do exactly what they say. You put armor on them. (I agree with you on how they should have added an equip option). What could be more useless than that? Oh, I know! /fill, /clone, /summon and /testfor! Who is EVER going to use those?
I remember when I started out, around 1.3 (not beta) and a half a year later or so when 1.5 came out, I felt so ripped off. I mean seriously, MORE redstone? (Note, this was before I learned how to use it) Who is EVER going to use a comparator?! An updated dedicated to redstoners? What about us regular players? Its not like we get a few updates a year with brand new survival features!
This is just like Windows 8 and iOS 7. Everyone hated them and now a lot of people are used to them (Minus W8. Piece of crap, IMO). The same will happen with 1.8. And 1.9. And 1.10. These same arguments rise up every version. 1.3, 1.4, 1.5... It's always the same. You feel ripped off by Mojang because they spent almost a whole year making a pointless update (maybe for you but for people like me who use command blocks and commands and survival this update comes in handy! Plus mapmakers really needed this update, how did they ever get along before?)
Basically what I'm trying to say is that Mojang doesn't care about the opinion of a single player. Faulty code? Bugs happen. Lots of lines of code that get messed up when things are added or changed! This update may not be great for you but it is great for us. It really should be about time for a mod to lock this topic or for us to stop arguing.
Absolutely no point in arguing as you aren't changing anyone's opinions or Mojang's update.
*Obviously Leslie is going to respond to that with one of those "Fix the bugs!" responses. I'm just saying how it is.
says there's no reason to play an outdated minecraft version lol been playing beta 1.6 for the past 3 years or so.
i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed
well the only skin site prepared for 1.8 is http://www.needcoolshoes.com but mojang has a ton of bugs with realms so there's your answer on why it took so long to make but my spoiler will show new doors

custom world generations
endermite
rabbit
guardian
better torch angles (when placed on walls)
3D heads
better skins
iron trapdoors
3D dropped items (when on fast vid settings)
more food
more enchants
more misc items
banners
better fps
better render
red sandstone
new blocks and that's about it
The Skins, Ocean Momuents, Sandstone, Slime Blocks, and the unfinished CWG are the best things about 1.8, while everything else is pretty stupid (E.G. The rabbits & Endermites).

I have actually pointed out several times that one of the nasty things about this update is golems and creepers fighting each other. If the game designers had any sense they would be some way to simply disable weather like we can turn off clouds. Why can we turn off clouds but not weather? Just how dumb is that? But they are just too stupid or hostile towards us to give us even that simple option.
Luckily for you that was fixed, and even fixed again after TheMogMiner realized there were still problems in the 3rd pre-release. I'd assume we can't turn off weather because it actually affects gameplay and isn't cosmetic like clouds are, and doesn't tie into the game's difficulty options.
Have you guy's forgot this is the 2nd adventure update, meaning...
I seriously hope that's just a joke..

Well, one time Mojang literally asked Optifine if they could add the whole Optifine software into vanilla. The Optifine developer denied their request.
I don't see a problem with that. They asked, they would have worked with the author to implement it. He said no, they didn't add it in. Now they're writing their own optimizations. Tell me, is that stealing from optifine?

XP Guide Regardless of what change you do, no matter how small, someone will complain. - Jens Bergensten If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my post in your reply.
I've already seen that. Most of it doesn't impress me, like they added a bunch of commands and changed the block IDs so it's easier. And bug fixes. Not anything game-changing considering nearly a whole year it took. 1.7.2 took less time but actually brought us some impressive, cool stuff.
The commands are AWESOME!! You would not believe the stuff I've made with them!! Teleporting bows, personal trail effects (like servers), trail effects on certain entities (snowballs leaving snow particles behind them), an automatic setup that kills all items (for lag) every 5 minutes, and more. The possibilities with these new commands are endless, and I'm very happy Mojang added them. Everything else about 1.8 has also been very great. I love this update.
The weather time bug is just one of many examples - do I choose between typing "/weather clear 10000" every minute or so just to turn off the annoying rain or so I deal with villages blowing up?
You seem to have answered that question for yourself: you're now apparently playing 1.8. Obviously you would rather live with "villages blowing up" rather than typing "/weather clear 10000" when it rains.
You've chosen 1.8 over 1.7 - it's a net improvement in your eyes.
So in order to get something I want then I have to deal with more annoying crap. Every update is like this.
You would never have updated at all if the pros of the updates didn't outweigh the cons.
Absolutely no point in arguing as you aren't changing anyone's opinions or Mojang's update.
Exactly.
What do you think Mojang class you as if you complain about an update, but still choose to update? You're an accepter of the update as far as they're concerned - a successful convert.
This update has so many additions that could've been released in some side-updates because they don't related to the main content at all. They could've easily added those map maker additions in a small update saying "hey map makers, have fun with these cool new options!" instead of making them wait a year to finally release their map when everyone has the update.
I agree, the update's contest is somewhat random, like they throw in a time waste of make making stuff, but also new blocks. I don't get why Mojang has to always wait for a major update. If they want to add some new blocks, why not make a 1.7.11 or whatever? You don't have to make us wait, its not that hard to do separate updates!
Not to mention they are literally 16x16 px textures. Could've been done in less than a day to be honest.
The blocks also have their own code, but hey, I'm no programmer so I don't know a thing about a coding blocks. I'm assuming that Mojang did what they thought was nessecary. They don't care about the opinion of a handful of fans on the forums. (Though they could fix golem/creeper war zones, that would be nice)

I would be kinda annoyed if updates popped out every week. Try enjoying the game for what it is, not the bells and whistles you are simultaneously disliking and impatient for.
-32x32 default texture pack (REMOVING THE UGLY DIRT STONES)
-Added different tree block sizes (that way Birches look more real!)
-Added new shaders, wind ambience
-Bones can be smelted for glue, a Slimeball equivalent
-Larger dungeons, more than a stupid 7-block room
-Strongholds are larger and more useful
-Added MORE ORES!!!!! (Why not just steal metallurgy and dub it poorly?)
-Added the Aether and the Altropy, a Wither Dimension
-Creepers no longer walk into lava, sometimes drop TNT
-All animals drop bones, skeletons most
-Added Battle Towers (atomicstryker)
-On death, you respawn as a spirit with the Fly ability, with a temporary beacon at your death-place. Touching your body respawns you.
-Added Red Dragons in the Aether
-Cameras reimplemented, screenshots taken can be made paintings
-Enchanting Plus stolen, poorly configured and shoved in our faces (still better than using Lapis)
-Spiders can be tamed and ridden using rotten flesh and a saddle
-Skeletons backpedal when you come close, only have 3 arrows which they can pick up and you can't
-Added achievements pertaining to the Ocean Monuments
-Added Obsidian and emerald tools, only available by villager trades.
-Saddles craftable using leather, iron, string and a diamond
-Stolen Heatscar Spiders from Natura
-Added Wither Skeletons which hold Fire Aspect + Wither bows.
-Animals require one food item every in-game day, requires a golden equivalent to breed
-Wither Skeletons drop Wither Bones, which can be crafted into a Charcoal dye, is used as a fertilizer to Nether Wart
-All Nether Fortresses have one beacon fueled with a Wither Skull, giving you Nausea, blindness, hunger and Poison I until you disable it.
-All items stack in 72, instead of 64. Coal burns for 90 seconds.
-Eating bread has a small chance of giving you nausea and a random shader. This is ergot.
-Bunnies remodeled and made useful
-Pigs drop leather on kill

More like the update that listens & steals. The 32x32 pack could be included in the game (And is also a stolen version of the Faithul Texture Pack).

Kinda. The Adventure System was totally re-written in 1.8 Release Edition, and that right there explains it. And the new Alex skin as well.
