All of you complaining about Mojang "ripping off" mods are just plain stupid. Yeah, that's right, stupid. I don't care to try and be polite anymore because it's clear to me that the majority of you make no effort to be positive or supportive at all, let alone use your brain.
Think about this if you have enough neurons: There are at the very least, hundreds of mods available for this game. Expecting Mojang to never implement an idea that already exists in a mod somewhere is beyond unreasonable. Mojang has always wanted to absorb what they think are the best ideas from the community. Pistons? Enderchests? Yep, all fan made ideas. There was even a mod for pistons! Not to mention the fact that Armor Stands are a generic enough concept that Mojang could easily have come up with it on their own. Consider that multiple people can "invent" the same thing, without knowing of each other's plans.
1.8 honestly didn't give that much, considering that it took a whole year. The most worthy thing I found out of the updates was the new ocean guardians, which were actually pretty neat. But a lot of the stuff like the armor stands or the commands, I really don't find much interest in; plus it isn't that great since it took a whole damn year.
How in the world are armor stands useful? Why the heck would you want to show off your armor? It doesn't make much sense to be, TBH. Seems like nothing but a pointless scarecrow or a closet. I know that in ancient times there were armor stands, but it just doesn't make sense in Minecraft.
Also I don't get these crap load of summon commands; don't see how they are useful either.
Other stuff they added:
- Granite, Andesite and Diorite stone blocks with smooth versions
- Slime Block
- Iron Trapdoor
- Prismarine and Sea Lantern blocks
- Ocean Monument
- Red Sandstone
- Banners
- Coarse Dirt
- Guardian mobs with item drops
- Endermite mob
- Rabbit with item drops
- Mutton and Cooked Mutton
- Spectator Game Mode
- New achievement
- Customized world type
- Hidden "Debug Mode" world type
- New commands
- New player model
- New options for configuration
^ Now this seems like a lot of stuff, but considering that it took a whole year.....I'm just really not impressed. Also, many of the features that Mojang implemented were taken from mods, such as armor stands. In fact, Mojang was actually going to get Optifine into the game but the creator of Optifine didn't allow it.
I really expected more, such as an overhaul to the terrain generator. I know that in the previous update there were many new biomes added, but I and many others for a few years wanted more variation and hilly terrain. And no, amplified just creates a mess that doesn't even make variance/sense. Or just something that would actually change Minecraft.
Well, when i typically see a post like this, i groan inwardly at the person who posted it. But then i saw it was you who posted it Trollsack, and if it is any critic on these forums I trust, its you.
So I read onwards.
In some ways, I am disapointed with the content produced in the time alloted. But the most of that content, I love! Especially the monuments, or the slime blocks, bunnies, enchanting system, doors, or the new stones. Especially andesite. Especially andesite.
But there are also features in the update that could be expanded upon. Such as the villager AI, or the endermites, or red sandstone. All those have so much potential.
And then there are the smaller features, such as coarse dirt, colored beacons, mutton drops.
At this point, you can probably tell I am looking at this from a survivalists point of view. I don't really know how useful this update is for command nlocks and such, with the new commands that were added, but I will say this: this update adds useful little things for adventure map makers, resource pack makers, survivalists/PvPers, builders, redstoners, skin makers, and even explores and acheivment hunters.
So, in conclusion, this update is indeed bountiful for everyone; but it is that bounty that could have been more bountiful for these groups of players.
oh ok my programmer, I guess you know how long all this work should take. It's a good thing you're their manager to make sure they know that the work they did took to long.
Oh, wait, you're just some pointless kid who no one would ever care about your opinion on how long this update took.
Hey I'm not saying that this is easy to program, but you can't deny that 2014 was the least productive year in Minecraft. I'm comparing to the other updates and changes from previous years, this just isn't that great for the time it took.
but you can't deny that 2014 was the least productive year in Minecraft.
Well it's a good thing that Mojang doesn't have to present each update to you on a silver platter every month. "Productivity" is in the eye of the beholder. If you asked any Mojang employee they would say they got a lot done, like completely reworking inner game systems. But if you ask the average forumer (you) all you get is THERE AREN'T ENOUGH FEATURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't get the armor stands, could someone explain to me why we would need them?
What I want to see in an update is new, better and more biomes and mobs, vertical slabs and more slabs and stair type blocks. Want glass half slab so bad!
Well I think most of the new features are interesting (with a few exceptions of course) but all I really want for an update is for once to be able to get constant 40-60 fps on just average settings, fast graphics, normal render distance, some particles, etc. That's all I could really ever ask for in Minecraft, but I do think the stuff they add is rather interesting, and if there is something I don't like I don't use it or I ignore it (but with lag that's kinda hard :P)
White coats to bind me, out of control
I live alone inside my mind
World of confusion, air filled with noise
Who says that my life's such a crime?
Trapped in this nightmare
I wish I'd wake
As my whole life begins to shake
four walls surround me
an empty gaze
I can't find my way out of this maze
'Cause I don't care
Fall in, fall out
Gone without a doubt, help me
I can't take the blame
They don't feel the shame
It's a madhouse
Or so they claim
It's a madhouse
Oh, am I insane?
My fears behind me, what can I do
My dreams haunt my sleep at night
Oh no, won't learn their lesson, white fills my eyes
And only then they see the light
To the people that are trying to tell me that Bibliocraft didn't invent the armor stand:
I understand that the armor stand wasn't something that was invented by any modder, but Mojang copied the artwork AND usage of the item. The only difference between the vanilla one and the one in Bibliocraft is that in Bibliocraft it is a tile entity instead of a regular entity.
Points well taken. I'm getting mean here, not good, but I'm emotionally invested in this game.
I still want to say, even given all these bad things already in the game, they are still able to choose between 2 things :
1) give up on fixing and start over to focus on game content
2) give up on game content and focus on fixing to make mods and servers more compatible and sustainable
But what we see now is they don't want to give up whatever is theirs and they don't care about whatever isn't theirs. They are invested in their not-so-maintainable code and they are still breaking mods.
Now shouldn't I be holding the same attitude towards them ? Shoudn't I be looking at my game experience and don't care about whatever their technical difficulties are?
And on the engine stuff, to me, if a problem takes a basic coder to understand, then it takes an elite code ninja to understand. Again, fixed bugs are just nerds' brag rights, they don't make ordinary people feel anything awesome in it. I completely understand the difficulty involved in reinventing a wheel, even if it's a wheel from ten years ago.

They look nothing alike. So no art was copied. And how exactly did they copy the usage? Armor stands only have one use.

I do think you all understand most of this 1.8 has take. a year for a few reason they have been coding the xbox versions the ps3,4 versions and the 0.9 version for MCPE all are mostly coded in objective c and VS Java takes a lot longer to code and they were also setup ing up minecraft realms. or this update lots are people are right it doesn't seem like a lot but at the same time it LOADS this one has mostly be for redstone and map makers. me being on of them truly LOVES this up date. for example what would have taken me 90 command blocks if I wanted to make a house be built instantly I can replace with one /clone command. they have made other commands Easier as well instead of haveing keep a web page open or keeping every id in you head now it's the name. Easy! also as other peopel they have added things for other people as well the underwater temple and more mobs. if you could instead of saying tht you don't like the update you could instead tell mojang what you think should be added. like ever since 1.5 I have bee. wanting commands that they added in this update if you look at any kind if map that was built in 1.5 and then look at the onEd that are being built now there is a huge impairment thanks to this update.so yeah mojang has been busy at work all the versions of minecraft it isnt 5 years ago where all they had to worry about was the pc version

I don't get what you're saying. They don't even remotely resemble the same texture. And how the hell can you copy the use when there is only 1 use? Biblio craft armor stands are used to display armor. Minecraft armor stands are used to display armor. Are you suggesting Mojang should have made armor stands do something completely different other than stand up armor?
Well at least minecraft is gonna be a better game then it ever was. I think they did so stuff to make it less laggy (correct me if I am wrong) but those armor stand can be a big issue.

Right now we have a few vids but we arent doing vids right now... sorry! Will resume in Janurary (maybe).
I'm seriously annoyed as Australia hasn't received the update yet *face-palm* the mobs sound cool but otherwise I agree, yeah it shouldn't have taken this long for so little.
They should have added more useful things like furniture ( but that would be copying mods like jammy furniture mod). But I'm in support for more useful things.

Yes. cause I totally spread gold bars on my toast...
They fixed the vast majority of the lighting glitches, actually.

Half-correct, they do code the Android and IOS versions, but they have a different set of devs for it (Though Jeb still leads the development).
Jammy isn't the only furniture mod.
