I don't see why a whole bunch of 15 year olds are getting all up in arms about a VIDEO GAME UPDATE.
If you don't like the update, then don't play it or just stop playing the game. It's not that hard, believe it or not, to not complain about something you can't change.
You've hardly realized how much of a difference all of the bug-fixing and redstone command mechanics have changed the game and improved it so I doubt you know too much about programming. You shouldn't be saying that they took way too long because I'd doubt that you could figure out how to implement the slime block within a month.
Adding all of the new mobs and new AI for villagers may not seem like much, but certainly is due to the huge amount of detail that they would have to put into their files. This update has more behind-the-scenes things such as the dozens of bug-fixes than anyone else could realize. You also saying that these updates are "uninteresting" is irrelevant since it changes the game for others in more ways than you could even imagine
Agreed, there must be some curse of updates with the number "1.8"
so does that mean there will be no 1.9 only pre-releases lol but ya dont know why but there must be something with 1.8

i think we should all use common sense and logic when we answer and ask a question but always stay open minded
just cause science fails to explain something does not mean its real (afterlife, big foot, ghosts etc..) does not mean its fake try to stay opened mined instead of closed

I completely agree. Thank you for being one of a few people with actual sense on this post.

I did see your copy and paste comment. You may not have knowledge of Java coding or coding in general, you may have a lot of knowledge, my point being: Minecraft has over 500 Items. 1.8 added a large amount of items, and each time you add something to the minecraft game code, a bug conflicts most of the time. With java, there are many different languages you CAN use to assist you, and just inside java alone you have many different 'elements' i.e. variables (could be wrong about the latter fact). This consists as of 1March 25, 2014, 172712 lines of code, 4790037 characters total (this includes brackets) and 1378 characters on the longest line.
Without knowing how much YOU know about java, that's a lot of code. A lot. Finder would even have a difficult time navigating that.
Imagine this; you add the Rabbit into the game. This includes, but not limited too, the way they function, how you breed, how many types of rabbits there are, what biome they spawn in(and don't spawn in) and the chances of an 'evil rabbit'. Lets say you mistype part of the rabbit code, you would get (most likely) a generic error code. You would have to re read all of the rabbit code to find the error. That's not even mentioning the part if the rabbit code conflicts with another code.
Oh, and the part where you can just open "Minecraft Game Code File" Paste it into a blank document, and publish it. Does that make sense to you?

I guess you thought about that before you complained about other people. Presumably you have the power to change the entire human experience of the internet, and make it so no one ever posts something someone else dislikes.

Or you're a hypocrite.
Nope, he's actually right. He isn't trying to change the "entire human experience of the internet," that's pretty broad. All he's saying is that complaining about something that can't be changed is a waste of energy. He wasn't complaining, just making a statement.
Seriously, I don't understand why people seem personally offended or attacked when people criticize a product made by other people, where the other people are making millions, and the ones getting upset have exactly ZERO investment in it. It's like getting insanely pssed off because someone said "I don't like McDonald's."
You don't own Mojang. If people gripe, it will have no effect on your life at all. Calm down.
You have point out when someone makes a great point once in a while. This is one of those times. ^
anyways, on the topic of this, personally I expected more in 1.8, and felt let down when seeing the overall changes. The fault in that however is with myself. I won't complain too much, the update was still somewhat decent, and I'll still play the game anyhow.
the added a new skin feature (no 2nd hats) and did not add a new skin layout in there website plus now skins won't update any lower that 1.7.9 (which is when 1.8 first started)
but the adventure update lol hands down the worst update ever now am not going to get into a big fight over it (it has happened to many times) but lets see what it ruined
the terrain, beta 1.7 great terrain really cool, beta 1.8 the ugliest terrain i have seen (at least 1.7 gave us all those new biomes to look at)
the game play. beta 1.7 known as minecraft, beta 1.8 known as adventure combat
but i could go on and on but i know what you die hard minecraft fan boys will say oh it so good if you dont like it dont play it amz so coolz. answer to that my main world right now is in beta 1.6 happy now?
dont worry buddy i only play current minecraft on my 360 or when ever a new update comes out most of the time am back in the glory days of beta
don't worry, dude thanks to the new launcher we can go back to before the adventure update
Yes but why do they have to be sooooooooo wrong!!!
O well. Life goes on. In another month or so we'll get a 1.9 snapshot and all the complaining about 1.8 will be replaced by what ever the next thing is that ruined the game.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.--Douglas Adams--

The reason we are complaining is not because new features were added, it's because they don't serve good purposes and the update took too long for what it's worth.
1.8 helps out map makers who utilize Command Blocks and commands in general more than anyone else. What we can now do with commands is much more impressive than what was available in the past.
You guys make it sound like minecraft is all about custom made maps. What about, eh, the actual game? Plus, theres allready TONS of mods and utilities out there to help you with adventure maps.
It's not all about, but a large number of playes do enjoy adventure maps. The addition of some of these commands means that these tons of mods don't have to be installed just to play 1 or 2 maps. Though I do have to agree this update will not have the biggest impact on the majority of players.
Back on Alex: Yes, it looks like a female skin. My daughters and wife are happy with it, before they had to run custom skins. Now I run a custom skin. It would be preferable to be able to choose between Steve, Alex and custom from within the game, but please remember that females are 50% of the worlds population, and Minecraft appeals to both genders.
I just love it when people complain about updates for a game they paid for once, who don't know a thing about programming, and see only what benefits THEIR gameplay.
Your not wrong. But I think your not looking at the hole picture.
Yes but what one person deem worthless, others think is the best thing to happen sense sliced bread. Their are several aspects to the game. Not everything will directly impact everyone all the time. However we all get something. Personally I'm looking forward to this update. Their are a lot of the new fetchers I'll use.
It has taken a long time to arrive. But they also patched 1.7 how many times? Implemented their own server hosting world wide. And again....How much did this cost anyone? I dropped $20 ish 3 or 4 years ago, and still get free updates. I've also never been given a promise of when or how often the game gets updated.
I'm also not saying that everything is prefect either. The changes to the creepers and golems don't look so hot. Fact it could be quite explosive! I would like more explanation on how the custom map settings work. In general they don't document the game all that well. I still need to load up a mod to have the game play smooth. I should not need to do that.
And a lot of the criticism is not constructive or supportive. It's just plain mean.
"I think this could have been coded faster and more efficient."
or
"This game is going down the drain. I could have coded this in one day! Where is Notch!"
Both say pretty much the same thing, but one is a lot nicer. Leaving room for improvement and discussion.
