The game was at it's peak until this monstrosity. Mojang couldn't even be bothered to fix the bug reports before it's release, or even patch it afterwards.
Incompetent and lazy.
Ignoring people who bring up good arguments isn't going to prove your point.

Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!

I don't need to "prove" my point. It's self-evident except to those who are wilfully ignorant.
Here's what we can thank 1.8 for:
- Record number of bugs
- Crippling lag for over 50% of all player according to polls
- The update that took the longest
- Least amount of new additions to the game compared to the same time span from previous years
- The update still hasn't been patched 6 months later
- Less people are playing MC than ever
- Less people are on the forums than even
And unrelated to 1.8, but also a result of Mojang's incompetence. Bukkit is dead and the modding community is dying off.
If this is a success to you I'd hate to see what you'd classify as a failure.

Face it this update was the worst bug riddled update in Minecraft's history. It's very obvious. It's also ironically the update that too the absolute longest.
There's no explanation for that other than complete and utter incompetence.
Worst bug riddled update? Have you forgotten the officially released updates that literally broke the game for EVERYONE?
The game is bigger in code then it has ever been, so naturally there are more places that things can go wrong and break. Its like a car engine. The bigger the engine, the more that can go wrong, and some of these problems are in areas of the engine that are difficult to get to to even SEE what is wrong, let alone fix.
Take a programming class sometime. Your simple lack of understanding of programming is painfully obvious.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
The modding community will stop dying when mojang implements the modding and plugin API. Just hope that Mojang does that.
And less people are playing MC, but more are doing that on their mobile phones, aren't they?
Do you really think that the Mod API is still coming? and anytime soon?! That's been promised since beta.
Just for arguments sake, say the API showed up tomorrow. You still need people who will port their Bukkit plugins over and Bukkit is abandoned so who is going to do that? Nobody.
A significant proportion of the modding community has already moved on. People have stopped playing Minecraft in record numbers. Not to mention the fact that most people who haven't played or modded in a year or more would be forced to learn how to code for an entirely new API. I highly doubt that everyone is going to invest their time into that transition.
1.8 has killed Minecraft and it's dying a very slow and painful death.

I don't understand what you're saying anymore.
I took a bit of time to ingest the opposing viewpoint, and they have you cornered; no, captured. It's time to stop flailing and struggling against the iron bonds to make things easier for everyone.
At this point people are beating a dead horse with a dead horse that ate dead horses before it died. This isn't quite EULA-reaction-level of silly but it's getting there.
In regards to the plugin API, if/when it does arrive, you guys should be aware that it will never be as powerful as direct bytecode modding like people are doing now. Its advantages are very powerful of course (plugins would work between versions fx.) but the disadvantage will be that some things we can do now can't be done through the API, either until Mojang add the specific functionality to it, or will never be possible at all. Don't be surprised if you'll be using both plugins and old fashioned bytecode mods at the same time.

1.8 pulled the plug and Minecraft is now slowly circling the drain. You can choose to ignore it now, but eventually you'll have no choice but to face the truth.
This update took a year to make and the game has gone broken for 6 months now. People move on to other games. The modders move on, especially when there isn't a reliable 3rd party API anymore. Mojang has killed their player base with this disaster.
There is Spigot, a much better version of Bukkit which can allow for bukkit plugins to still work on servers with Spigot.
Spigot isn't better than Bukkit. It's being used now because it's the best alternative to Bukkit.
Spigot has serious issues. It's on legally shaky ground and they have a small dev team. Bukkit is dead and it's not being updated. Bukkit pulgins are no longer being updated in many cases as well. Spigot needs Bukkit to be updated after every MC update, or Spigot will not work. With a small dev team it's just simply too much work to update all of this in a timely fashion, not to mention the increasing lack of support for Bukkit plugins from modders.

Ikr...nothing they "promise" ever gets added. All they focus on is command blocks. They ruin the game for most of their players and don't care. They get bought out by microsoft. It's almost like Mojang is trying to suck.

Spigot is much, much faster than Bukkit. I have a friend who can't play Minecraft due to fps but when on my Spigot server, he runs smoothly.
And you wilfully ignore all of the major problems with Spigot that I just mentioned. When you look at all the negatives and what's going on with Bukkit and the lack of support for it and their plugins it really doesn't matter how "fast" Spigot is.
Spigot relies on Bukkit. No Bukkit no Spigot. That's the problem.
Then all of the Bukkit plugins are dead because they are incompatible with Forge with isn't that great of an API to begin with imho.
And yet the Spigot team managed to make a 1.8 Spigot, a little unstable but that is to be expected. They had to rebuild 1.8 Spigot without Bukkit code, which isn't easy. They managed it, I have it running on my server, everything is just as smooth as Bukkit.
It took them about 4 months and Bukkit plugins which they depend on are no longer being supported in many cases. I rest my case.

1.8 did not pull any plug. The reason it took so long to make was that they're rewriting a bunch of the code, and of course there's a lot of bugs because of that. Why did they rewrite a bunch of the code? TO MAKE A NEW API. They're trying their best to fix this. Have you noticed that 1.8.1 and all of the 1.8.2 prereleases are almost completely bugfixes?
People have been waiting for that since beta. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. You might not be around for much longer.
Plus if it did come out you'd need the non-existent Bukkit modders to port all of their plugins over, or every plugin will need to be made from scratch again if they are going to work with this "new API."
They're trying there best to fix this. Have you noticed that 1.8.1 and all of the 1.8.2 prereleases are almost completely bugfixes?
Mhm, but the game is still broken and the player base is leaving in droves. The most popular API has disbanded and is no longer supported. The 2nd most used API depends on the disbanded API to work and for most of its plugins.
Seems like a real mess to me with no good solution.

me for example I just got the PC version a few months ago like the last update , I just got the villager trading system and cats , also sometimes its best to be patient even if it takes a whole year, well it gives people a chance to try out the new things in the update it takes time and money first you got to see what the players would like in the new update or things that are needed to make the game more fun to play.

I see where you're getting at, and you DO have a point about the length of time this took, but 1.8 was an AESTHETIC update, changing quite a few graphical functions, giving us more building stuff, and adding yet more commands and Redstone junk.
Take a look at everything you are upset about:
Granite
Diorite
Andesite
Armor Stands
Slime Block
Iron Trapdoor
Prismarine and Sea Lantern blocks
Ocean Monument
Red Sandstone
Banners
Coarse Dirt
Guardian mobs with item drops
Endermite mob
Rabbit with item drops
Mutton and Cooked Mutton
Do you see it? 90% of the things you mentioned that you DIDN'T like was aesthetic. You are looking for stuff that improves modding, an improvement model that possibly needs a break (I am a modder myself BTW). Mojang has been doing a lot for the modders for the past two or three versions before 1.8.

Commands and resource pack model format changes are not aesthetic, they are functional. In addition, many changes were made to rendering, like the new VBO.

Look at 1.7: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.7.2
Already, I can name one thing that changed the modding world.
Now look at 1.6.1: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.6.1
The resource pack format made textures a little easier, plus lots of miscellaneous junk.
Now 1.5: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.5
Changes to rendering engines, etc.
1.8 was a "break time" update. To quote Phone Guy: "These things happen, y' know."
Please read THIS before making a suggestion
And support the ability to add paintings and records!
