Forge is stable enough to do this - adding mods is as simple as adding texture packs. If they integrated Forge into Vanilla it would be much better.

Wouldn't be opposed to that. By this point, whatever Mojang does create as the API means all mods will have to be rewritten anyway. So for the sake of compatibility, go with what is established and works.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
Not as simple as that for some. Even with settings turned to the lowest possible, despite having good computers, the game still lags for unknown reasons.
I want to publicly thank you for that response. You seem to be someone with some integrity and intelligence, regardless of any other differences of opinion we may or may not have.
You strike me as a moderate who is reacting to the extremes of certain positions that seem too negative to you and that you are striving for a better balance, I can understand such a position.
I, however, have spent too many years having to deal with the NDF of old (notch defense force) and other sycophants that were so extreme that they would do everything they could to have any thread suggesting that it was even possible for Height-Mods to exist shut down and deleted because notch "said it isn't possible", despite the fact that the Cubic Chunks Mod existed and gave access to height and depth for thousands of blocks with even better performance back in the Beta 1.7.3 days... You just cant reason with people like that, and believe me I tried with links and evidence, I banged my head against that wall for a looong time.
In the end it was directly thanks to my evangelizing and constant fighting the good fight that so many people discovered the truth and started bugging the heck out of Mojang about greater height with mentions of the Cubic Chunks Mod. Because of all that I ended up having some direct communications with Mojang staff, notch and Jeb, about the subject. Notch ended up just continuing to ignore it but Jeb was inspired by it and started working on a version of it in secret from even notch. Months later, after notch had given complete control of development over to Jeb, Jeb released ANVIL and made the radical change of converting the original Minecraft Linear-Chunks system over to a semi-cubic chunks system with a 256 block height, Doubling the "Traditional" height that the ndf said was impossible and with at least the same performance! Jeb was even nice enough to give a shout out to Robinton, the creator of the Cubic Chunks Mod, in the Mojang Blog announcement about that version of Minecraft.
So, you are all welcome, I hope you enjoy the better Minecraft that disagreement with the Minecraft "creator" and his reactionary forum followers has brought you.
Complaining and repeatedly pointing out facts CAN make a positive difference, and this isn't the only case in which even I have been involved.
Are there silly extremes of negativity? Of course! Are there constant unthinking knee-jerk reactions to any posts that sound in the slightest bit "negative" even if they are simply bug-reports? Yes, ever since the beginning.
In any case, Thank You for the honesty and courage it took to make that post.

That's pretty true, the fact that 1.8 is so lame is beneficial to modders because it's not really worth making mods for.
Due to unfortunate problems my Mod is a "bit" behind. However; when it IS updated is WILL be updated for at least mc1.6.4 and mc1.7.10 due to how many servers there still are for those versions and due to how large the mod ecosystem is for them. The 1.8.x mess isn't even on my road-map at this point.
That doesn't mean there won't ever be a 1.8.x version but just look at how incredibly long it took for 1.7.x to finally settle down at the reasonably decent 1.7.10 version. 1.8.2 does NOT look to be IT.

They did so much for the API (i hope release will be 1.9 or 1.10) you can't appreciate.
They say that every major update.
The API has been "in heavy development" for 4 years. Since 2010. The github for it (I forgot the URL to it) had like, 2 stub methods? And that was it. They haven't worked on the API for a long time. I mean sure, yay, json files, we're so happy for them... yeah, no, people are furious. I'm sure it will come some day, but not in 1.9 or 1.10. Not a chance. They only care about map makers, texture pack artists and redstone users. That's it.
Forge is stable enough to do this - adding mods is as simple as adding texture packs. If they integrated Forge into Vanilla it would be much better.
Yeah, and look at how well documented Forge is; for example, do you think I could really make any of my cave generation mods based on the very limited information given here - they don't even tell you what the methods do, much less what the parameters are, much less even bother to deobfuscate them (aside from ones that Forge adds and those aren't so useful to me; that said, the deobfuscation is more of an issue with MCP, as 1.6.4 has very easy to understand method names (generateCaveNode, etc) and even comments)!
Indeed, if you look at the source for this mod somebody else made you can see they basically copied the original source code over, i.e. basically directly editing the source, which is why I find that to be a much easier method especially when you are only changing a few values here and there or otherwise modifying existing code. This is also because Forge doesn't actually provide any real API to change most vanilla methods, only add new blocks/items/etc, unless you want to use "very advanced" methods to inject code into the game. The same is true of a plugin API - if there is no means to plug in your own code you still have to directly modify it, and that will no doubt become much harder to do.
And that is a very simple class, one that in a few minutes I can edit with Java Bytecode Editor to change cave generation in snapshots (as long as they don't significantly change it) back to how it was before 1.7 (never mind that Mojang hasn't added any customization of most structures other than "yes/no" - even ones that can be customized in Superflat, which uses the same code in any world type so all they have to do is add some more sliders; of course, they probably think there are already too many sliders - most of them with obscure names and functions).
They only care about map makers, texture pack artists and redstone users. That's it.
Yes, because so few of 1.8 additions were of some other kind!
-Difficulty locking
-Depth Strider
-Stone types
-Ocean monuments
-World customization
-Coarse dirt, red sandstone, prismarine stuff
-Banners
-Rabbits, mutton, leaping potions
-Guardians, (admittedly sucky) endermites
-Enchanting and village mechanic changes
-Crafting/item mechanic rebalancing
-AI changes
-519 bug fixes (one recently reverted due to TNT changes)
-The optimizations that either work well or fail miserably
More than half the changes and additions do not belong to the categories you list. 1.8 is functionally and creatively different enough from 1.7 for me to say that they do care about groups other than what you mention.
Granted, the API does look like a long ways off, but I still think the sentence I quoted is wrong.

Fine, I will admit, some of that sounds... okay, mostly for adventurer players. Hardly any of that actually helps modders however.
AI changes - Mapmakers
Difficulty locking - Also can be used for mapmakers
519 bug fixes are not "additions"
Optimization is not an "addition"... it's just fixing shi- stuff.
Banners - Mapmakers as well, but used for decor.
World customization - Also can be used heavily for mapmakers.
Not to mention, when I mentioned redstone users, I was referring to recent major updates, such as 1.5. or.. was it 1.6? I forgot.
1.6 as well for texture artists, with all of the texture changes in the asset files. (might have been 1.5 as well.. idk)

I mean, have you seen what world generation can do? I've even made a thread about awesome generation types.

Don't like all the new features? Don't use them.

Update took too long? Grow up. Nothing revolves around you.
You know, now that I think about it, when will they insert TYNKYN into Vanilla without proper credit? I would love that mod in vanilla, but I would love for Mojang to credit DarKnighT_0_9 for making the mod
Yeah, whatever, only Mike Dawson can use them, you're just a butthurt 1.8 fan, we don't even play 1.8 since it's basicly unplayable as it turns into a 5 FPS slideshow, we have to see the new features because people shoehorn them into everything, we report them but Mojang says "Works as Intended" to all of them, and how about you grow up and see how bad this update really is?
