Well the OP's complaint certainly was about what was and wasn't included. Like I said I didn't see where the discussion evolved to, I was just more replying to what the OP said.
Yes it was and his other point was about the length of time it took Mojang to produce very little content and not even good well thought out content. A lot of people are disappointed about this as well as the broken state of this release. I don't think there is really just a single reason why people are upset about this disaster of an update. Heck, Mojang talked it up so much and called it the "Bountiful Update" and simply didn't deliver. Then they sold out to MS which upset even more people especially considering how Mojang trashed companies like that on countless occasions. Then Notch (who a lot of the community used to look up to) blamed them for his decision to sell out to MS was really the final nail in the coffin. IMO, that was a really cowardly and sleezy thing for him to do.
the "whining" person has a point... There's always one one person who whines about others posts (YOU). If you have nothing good to say, don't bother saying anything at all.
Those who wish to censor others because they don't agree with them are not worthy of consideration.

Yeah that is cool. I do understand why people are upset and they are legitimate concerns. I'm just not one of them and thought this was a forum that had discussions and didn't mind other opinions. If it isn't that is cool, I don't mind lurking and reading threads that interest me. You've been cool and took the time to explain the other side, very clearly so I could understand, so thanks for that.
i really dont think it was expectations i mean for almost all other big updates i get hyped for and i cant wait to play it but for 1.8 i didnt even care what was going on the update news on the wiki was just so boring and nothing fun was there but like redstonevet90 says mojang just keeps lowering the bar
(and right now there about on par with infinity ward and the new one that gave us mw3 and ghosts two of the worse games of all time)

It wasn't as bad as beta 1.8. Beta 1.8 brought us the dreaded food bar and ugly pork chops. Also those annoying silverfish (Unless that was 1.0, but I remember it being 1.8)
the "whining" person has a point... There's always one one person who whines about others posts (YOU). If you have nothing good to say, don't bother saying anything at all.
You're forgetting that this is the internet and people are able to say as they wish. If you do not like what I say then you are more than welcome to ignore my posts. However, what I said still stands. People will always find something in every update to whine about. Then again, you can't please everyone I guess.

However, what I said still stands. People will always find something in every update to whine about. Then again, you can't please everyone I guess.
The problem though is that this is affecting a lot of people, particularly lag/performance issues. I have played the game for three years and never once had issues, with any updates, and I am not one to complain. Suddenly, though, with this update I have had serious performance issues that definitely did not exist before, and the dismissive attitude from Mojang over these issues is kind of insulting to users affected by this.
This isn't just idle whining imo, this is a symptom of a bad direction Mojang and Minecraft may be heading. Hopefully things improve, but I think these may be the first signs of EA syndrome.
1.8 honestly didn't give that much, considering that it took a whole year. The most worthy thing I found out of the updates was the new ocean guardians, which were actually pretty neat. But a lot of the stuff like the armor stands or the commands, I really don't find much interest in; plus it isn't that great since it took a whole damn year.
How in the world are armor stands useful? Why the heck would you want to show off your armor? It doesn't make much sense to be, TBH. Seems like nothing but a pointless scarecrow or a closet. I know that in ancient times there were armor stands, but it just doesn't make sense in Minecraft.
Also I don't get these crap load of summon commands; don't see how they are useful either.
Other stuff they added:
- Granite, Andesite and Diorite stone blocks with smooth versions
- Slime Block
- Iron Trapdoor
- Prismarine and Sea Lantern blocks
- Ocean Monument
- Red Sandstone
- Banners
- Coarse Dirt
- Guardian mobs with item drops
- Endermite mob
- Rabbit with item drops
- Mutton and Cooked Mutton
- Spectator Game Mode
- New achievement
- Customized world type
- Hidden "Debug Mode" world type
- New commands
- New player model
- New options for configuration
^ Now this seems like a lot of stuff, but considering that it took a whole year.....I'm just really not impressed. Also, many of the features that Mojang implemented were taken from mods, such as armor stands. In fact, Mojang was actually going to get Optifine into the game but the creator of Optifine didn't allow it.
I really expected more, such as an overhaul to the terrain generator. I know that in the previous update there were many new biomes added, but I and many others for a few years wanted more variation and hilly terrain. And no, amplified just creates a mess that doesn't even make variance/sense. Or just something that would actually change Minecraft.
This update could have been called the Custom Map update, since most of it is only useful for that.
Armor stands can be used for more than just showing off armor. They can be used with command blocks and redstone to do some pretty nice things, such as, a zombie that can't burn in the sunlight, a campfire, a way to save your actions exactly as you did them to replay later, and a security camera.
The summon commands are useful because they allow you to spawn a mob without all that messy dispenser egg stuff, plus they allow you to ride an Ender Dragon! (even if you can't control it, yet)
Other commands introduced in this update allow you to put text on a players screen, instead of in the chat, and to have links in the chat you can click to do a certain action, such as using it to switch between the player your spectating in a match. They also allow you to make things like gravestones, so if you die, it creates a grave that saves your stuff in it until someone digs it up.
Also, they introduced spectate mode, so if someone dies in a match or you want to make a cutscene, they just switch to that mode and they can see things, but can't interact.
Another thing they added were barrier blocks. I shouldn't have to explain why these are useful.
They also added slime blocks, which adds a whole new dimension to redstone. You can make more complicated puzzles, create a giant killing machine you control, and have stuff like Missile Wars by Sethbling.
There is a lot of stuff I've more than likely missed, but I think you get my point.
The update doesn't do much for people just playing by themselves in a survival world, but for server owners or map builders, it's a dream come true.

Don't be surprised if one day I take over the front page of the Forum Games, and then disappear for months at a time. It happens.
I think its a great update but the update where it stopped feeling like classic Minecraft was 1.6 when they added horses and 1.7 biomes and 1.8 a lot of new stuff. But overall still a great update if you want to have the old feeling of Minecraft go back to whatever version you'd like!

It stopped feeling classic in 1.6 because that's when they started to add mods into the main game. Most of the stuff they've added into Minecraft in recent updates are directly from mods.

#betaFTW!
I agree.
What I personally liked best about beta 1.7 was the amount of variation in the terrain generation and the simplistic nature of the game. We have more biomes now, but less variation. What we have now are clumps of generic biomes. For example, all savannah biomes look pretty much the same and all birch forests look the same.
I also don't like the temperature system. You get massive groupings of temperate biomes that run on forever. It's very difficult to find a seed that have a good variety of vastly different biomes in a 2,000 - 5,000 squared blocks. These are my main beefs with MC. That and the lag which should be totally unacceptable...
That being said, I do like the new biomes. I just don't like how they were implemented. I also hope that Mojang doesn't go down the route of adding content simply for the sake of adding content. Sometimes simple is better and the game doesn't need to be cluttered with all of this necessary "stuff."
The kinds of content that I would like to see in the future would be additional weapons (battle axe, spear, crossbow). Better combat mechanics would be nice. 1-handed and 2-handed weapons and shields. Some weapons would be faster than others and some would do more damage than others. I also wouldn't mind some simple updates to the Nether and The End, which is lacking content IMO. There is a suggestion for "Nether Gold" I saw on the forums awhile back, which I liked and also another for small "Ruined Nether Temples" which would function like an above ground dungeon with a spawner and a small chest of loot. I haven't seen many suggestions for The End, but I just find The End to be very poorly implemented and boring. Some content for this as well would be nice.
TL;DR
New Re-textured blocks and flowers doesn't impress me. Lag makes me angry.
I know you guys are disappointed about the new update, such i am too. The armor stands i quite point useless, but who would use armor stands? I like 1.8 but it's just that got i bit disappointed about armor stands, but i'm fine with this update. Quite not because this could make the game boring, but who cares?

i agree 100% with you, i enjoy the new biomes (most of them) but every single one looks the same i go out explore my world find a roofed forest thing and then i find no need to go looking for another one there's going to be nothing new there its almost 100% the same thing (same with every other biome) but back in beta we had what 2 real true biomes forests and deserts (and then like 5 different forest versions example being seasonal forest and the rain forest etc...)
but i enjoy the fact that they add new content but i find what we really need is them fixing the issues with the game (some old and some new) what was the last update that really added any thing new to the nether which makes you want to explore it? the last one i can remember was beta 1.9 and thats when they added the nether fortresses and the real reason everyone wanted one so much were for the blazes double xp per kill and the drops are great (free fuel plus potion item and on my 360 they drop glowstone dust) and then the next thing i think they added was wither skellys and i still think them and the wither are pointless in the game and add no good reason,
and for the end well there are only 2 good reasons to go there one is to kill the enderdragon and the number 2 is to farm the endermen there we need two major updates fixing both of these dimensions am getting real sick of every update just for the over world i need more reasons to go back to my end and nether in my main worlds (i mean i every a base for both of them i have farmed every single thing that's farm-able in both areas and just done every thing i can and now am bored of them)

Tell me about it. I expected the game I bought to work when I updated it...
Apparently you can't even expect a patch within 3 months when it comes to Mojang. They just keep lowering the bar even further every passing day.
These pictures seem pretty relevant right now... I wonder if this is what Mojang is thinking....
