Personally, I'm kinda torn on this. I love the new blocks and the mobs are quite interesting... but it just doesn't quite feel right. It feels very out of place in vanilla minecraft as there isn't anything else like this. When I first heard about it I immediately thought of the Twilight Forest mod. I'm not saying that's a bad thing (and I'm not accusing mojang of stealing content) it's just, again, it feels too much like content from a mod rather then vanilla.

Due to my snarky and sarcastic personality I can easily be seen as a jerk. If I've offended you in any way it was likely unintended.
I find the new blocks to be quite an attractive building material. I enjoy the texture and the shade of blue. The problem is that I don't want to waste away a lot of my time constantly killing tons of guardians or dismantling the temple.
I do agree with you though, it dose need better loot. We all know how useless gold is.

Buckets. Or any other block really, though if you're draining a large area I can see how sponge would be useful.
Dinnerbone mentioned things about structure-specific weapons and whatnot that we've probably all already heard about, so some underwater chests containing some unique loot (besides Prismarine) would be nice.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

I hope you know that the term "Vanilla Minecraft" means a minecraft game that's not modded

Ah, so cosmetics requires function to balance the principle?
There is no need of searching for a water temple. The prizes are useless. It only gives you shards, cristals, sponge and ink sac. Seryously, I think the sponge is useless too. If you put a sponge on a lake, the water will dissapear completely...ok, that's great, but can you have the water back of the sponge? NO.
What? Vanilla Minecraft is Minecraft without any mods.
It looks to be the first real adventure dungeon, with own mobs and even a restricted ability to break blocks, because of the fatique effect. It looks like Minecraft is going the more detailled and in depth way, started with the horses. Maybe now it feels a little bit modded, but after a few months or a few updates, it becomes just part of the game, together with the more simplistic old mobs and structures. I don't see a problem with that. Minecraft can contain multiple styles pretty fine in my opinion, if they are not too different from each other. And that is still not the case with this structure.
However, I think that the structures are not quite finished yet and that there is more to come, like the mentioned special weapons. This is just a first shot.
I agree with you, in that everyone tends to dislike updates that are new, or "unnatural", but always gets used to them. I mean, when the Wither came out, I don't remember everyone loving it at first, but now it feels like it's always been a part of the game.
I do agree with you though, it dose need better loot. We all know how useless gold is.
Something I noticed though, is that there are exactly enough gold blocks to make a notch apple. Thus, these temples may be a useful thing to seek out in achievement hunting or Wither preparation.
Oceans must be larger. Other than that, the temple looks great so far.
Maybe they could make them spawn in those ridiculously large oceans only. (If you've played survival for long enough, you will know what I mean by 'large oceans', as in 30,000 blocks long.)

Not true, check the Wiki. You CAN get water from a wet sponge!
The temple is fine in my opinion. But I don't see why they needed to add new blocks for the temple, I mean how are you supposed to get them to use for building blocks if those guardians give you Mining Fatigue III for four minutes anyways?
Ah, so cosmetics requires function to balance the principle?
I'm saying "besides Prismarine" because a purely aesthetic reward for the hardest dungeon in the game would be quite unfitting. Strongholds have much weaker mobs yet have non-aesthetic rewards in addition to aesthetic ones.
Prismarine should be a nice bonus for completing the dungeon, or maybe the main reward if you're a builder. If you're not a builder, the only real reasons to tackle it are gold and sponge which are pretty mediocre rewards (sponges are more efficient versions of buckets that only work for removing water, and gold can be found elsewhere quite easily).

I understand this completely. Let me rephrase myself then: This doesn't feel like content added by Mojang and, to me at least, feels out of place in minecraft.

I still dislike horses and the wither's implementation is horrible. I do think you have a point though. I've gotten to the point that I can tolerate horses now and seeing as I actually like the temple I guess this feeling will pass in time.
I really don't understand what Jeb's point is here. It still looks like a temple to me. Just because it's larger then desert and jungle temples doesn't mean anything.

I personaly love this new feature! It's about blasted time we get a new generated structure. The same, but more so applies to the new Guardian mob! And to boot, we got some awesome new building blocks, starter base, and mini boss! The only 2 things that get me is why rough prismarine doesnt generate on pockets of the ocean floor like Clay, Dirt, and Sand does. Also, that the mineral blocks that are the loot are... gold. We know that gold isnt that useful, other than a nice building block, and for making those overly expensive apples. And if we are to go through the trouble of the temple's dangers, it should atleast be iron, but Diamond and Emerald would really take the cake. Each mineral block should have a chance of generating in there, except for Lapis and Redstone blocks. Diamond and iron blocks would be a real pay off for getting all that pain in the bum preperation, fighting. and navigating.
The temple is fine in my opinion. But I don't see why they needed to add new blocks for the temple, I mean how are you supposed to get them to use for building blocks if those guardians give you Mining Fatigue III for four minutes anyways?
Only the Elder Guardians apply that effect. Once you kill all three of the Elder Guardians in that temple, and once Mining Fatigue III wears off you can begin to mine up the temple. And if you don't feel like killing the Elder Guardians, you can kill normal Guardians to get Prismarine Shards and Crystals to craft the new blocks.

"Not modded" is what I meant to say.
