See the thing is... I don't think that's happening now...
By the way, the "Owners" of the company (Mojang) kinda were all kicked out... Cause you know...
Microsoft kinda bought Mojang so yea....
They didn't get kicked out. They left because they didn't like where it was going
I'm thinking that the future path of Minecraft subscriptions/ownership is going to be based on a MICROSOFT account. We MAY be seeing migrations, username change requirements, account migrations etc.
When Perfect World Entertainment bought and took over the Cryptic Studios properties (Star Trek Online, Champions Online, Neverwinter, etc.) all users and subscribers had to migrate their accounts to the PWE account system. If your Cryptic account name was already in use under the PWE system, you had to change that account username/login. Also since Microsoft has an existing infrastructure for accounts, forums, support, etc. I'd expect a possible migration in those areas too when they get fully under the property.
I'm not trying to doomsay or tell you it WILL happen but I'd be more surprised if we didn't see changes in accounts, the development path, updates & forums once Microsoft has everything settled in.

would this possibly result in the death of the minecraft forums/curse?
I'm sorry, but I despise this idea of changing names. Sure, I regret my name, and more so down the track because I chose it from what bullies used to call me, but honestly let's look at the pros and cons of this.
Pros:
1. You can have a cool new username.
Cons:
1. Server Owners can't ban you if you change your name.
2. It is morally confusing for people to distinguish you.
3. It's going to cause many problems down the track, whether system overloads at Mojang, or debates of innapropriateness.
This is why I don't condone this new idea Jeb brought to mind, it's just plain horrible and will lead to a new level of griefing.
I totally agree with you. Just think of all the noobs that would be changing their names all the time just for the hell of it! Although I think that for special cases (like people that accidentally put in their real name) should be able to change once.
Well what happens if you need a new name because a server owner says you need to change your name to a more appropriate one? hmm... If people mistake you for a FAMOUS youtuber then do you need to change your name? I currently have mine as DudeTDM and people mistake me for DanTDM I want to change my name to DaRZ

jeb said that you won't be able to change your name to an existing one (Notch, Jeb_, etc.)

Hmm, this feature could be interesting. There should be a free name change the first time you change it, then a small fee after that. The cost should go up each time you change your name, so that people would be less likely to change it as much. I'm pretty happy with my original name here, but it'd certainly be cool to have this. But, I am aware of the cons... this would be hard on servers and in multiplayer.
Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
I can see Microsoft charging $9.99 to change your name. It might be here sooner if you make enough noise about it. They need to recoop their monies so name change fees isn't too far fetched
I do agree with another poster about ban issues coming up. Not sure how that would be handled. I would be willing to pay for a name change. I wouldn't like to pay 9.99 for it but, at that price it would stop people from changing their names every other week. People changing their names all the time would just get old. Too many names to keep track of if they change all the time.
Why not enable the feature to change your name once but for free? Charging 9.99$ won't really solve the problem since not everyone of us is willing to pay this amount of $. I would be a steal from Microsoft...
What about the problem of confusing all the people on the server you get on?
Dude I agerre because on runescape you can change you name but if you would change your name in Minecraft the admins would be able to see your real name

It would be more feasible for Microsoft to at least be more flexible with name changes, maybe a maximum limit of 3 name changes per account? This is all just speculation for now, we'll wait and see.
I personally believe it should be like Steam name changes, every account is linked to an ID and that ID = what you are banned by on the server if you get banned, but you can change your name infinitely at any time for 0.00$ This would allow for roleplaying and such between different servers.

Each user will have his/her own uuid and plugins and ban handling will use that.
