Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
Yea, hopefully the spammers stop spamming soon about their usernameI think maybe you should pay a small price for this feature. Like 2 dollars or something.
FINALLY! I've wanted to change my name for ages! I can't wait until it is done. The wiki also looks great, but I've noticed that the block menu down the bottom of somepages has the wrong pictures, and has for a while as well. Ill put up a pic.
Here we go:
As you can see, all of the icons for the blocks are incorrect. As far as I can tell, this happens everywhere the list appears, but it doesn't happen to the item list.
I'm sorry, but I despise this idea of changing names. Sure, I regret my name, and more so down the track because I chose it from what bullies used to call me, but honestly let's look at the pros and cons of this.
Pros:
1. You can have a cool new username.
Cons:
1. Server Owners can't ban you if you change your name.
2. It is morally confusing for people to distinguish you.
3. It's going to cause many problems down the track, whether system overloads at Mojang, or debates of innapropriateness.
This is why I don't condone this new idea Jeb brought to mind, it's just plain horrible and will lead to a new level of griefing.

At first looks, I agree that problems may happen (Condone means you approve of it btw, not sure if that's what you meant) but until we see how Mojang actually do this, we can't make any assumptions on any cons there might be. Initially, I don't like the idea...but maybe it'll be really good?

Heh, yeah. I meant don't. And then again, this is just a server admins POV though,I just fear it will take a whole new level of griefing. I guess we can cross that bridge when we get to it though.

I totally agree with you. Just think of all the noobs that would be changing their names all the time just for the hell of it! Although I think that for special cases (like people that accidentally put in their real name) should be able to change once.
Since it sots $22 to buy Minecraft, if the price to change your name is more then that, it wouldn't be worth it. Half the price, now you're talking! For those worried people can evade server bans, It would be a pretty costly way to do it. So I do hope it costs enough to make someone think twice.
But name-changing can come in handy! Do it on the way RuneScape does; Your login name stays (This could also be the name on the banlist of servers, and if you want to know that name you could make a command for it, but only useable by owners/admis (This solves reecety's issue from pg. 1)) and only your 'display name' changes...
What about the problem of confusing all the people on the server you get on?
What about people running a server and only BAN users for their name, such as greifing, they banned his name, not his IP address. We could all be ban evaders this way, which is more bad then good.

Well it ok for you for me it isnt because changing player name will confuse people about your friends. and another bad reason is if greifers change their player name the some servers will be doomed!!
They could keep track of your accounts and use that for bans instead
Will there be some kind of permanent id, so name changing wouldn't mess with bans, player data etc. ? Say a server admin changes his IGN and forgets to remove the old one from the ops file, then a griefer takes it and goes on the server.
Or would this be like steam with seperate usernames and display names?
