Been playing since 2012, do not remember villages being so common, I keep finding so many in my world and close together as well. I have found 8 so far, is this normal or am I just super lucky? Plus the terrain seems a lot larger with higher mountains.

Well, ever since 1.14 villages can now spawn in snowy tundra's and in bedrock they can spawn in sunflower plains, snow taigas, taiga hills and snowy taiga hills. Villages used to not be able to generate in certain biomes. I'm not sure if that makes them more frequent though. I do have to agree they seem very common now so I'm not sure to be honest.
