So recently, I was thinking about the new migration progress that's supposed to happen early this year. I just found out that you can change your Xbox Gamertag once, and then you have to pay a fee to change it again. Does this mean you won't be able to change your Minecraft username for free anymore? That seems like a big red flag that not many people have been talking about. Just a thought.
I'm pretty sure that, for now at least, even people with Minecraft on a Microsoft account (those who just bought the game) change their Minecraft name at Mojang/minecraft.net

Minecraft Java Username and Xbox Gamertag are two different things:

Yeah, I know that. I'm saying that our accounts will be migrated and our names will be changed to Xbox gamer tags won't they?
The names will not be changes - the xbox gamer tag is an additional name - it is related to Minecraft Bedrock
We are just switching the account from mojang to microsoft - that does not mean, we are able to use the Bedrock version.
We are still having Minecraft Java then. If you buy Minecraft Bedrock on that account after Migration then you will need the xbox gamertag.
Until then, it is just a requirement for that Microsoft Account

Just testing.
