I have the JAVA edition and my friends use mostly the bedrock (either windows 10, Nintendo switch, x-box etc) one. Is it possible to join them in HIVE or do I need to get the bedrock version to be able to? Or is there any other alternative?
In some cases it is possible if java servers using a Plugin like GeyserMC - in this case Bedrock players can join java servers with some restrictions/missing features
But I have no idea which servers using this plugin
Thank you! I wish there was a way to play across. It seems like such a waste. I'll have two different versions on my pc
Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions differ quite much, so this is not possible to play across them directly.
And this is not a "waste" - it has been done this way for many reasons, and generally it's not easy to make such a unified game for many platforms.
Before year 2017 (when Bedrock edition has appeared) it was not even possible to play across different platforms, like Windows 10 - Mobile(Pocket) - XBox - Playstation etc.
Now on Bedrock edition you can play across these platforms.
And yes, many players have both Java and Bedrock editions on their computers.
As TileEntity said, there are some unofficial solutions to allow Bedrock players play on Java servers, but (as I know) not in opposite direction.
So an alternative would be to have a Java server with GeyserMC plugin and then you and your friends could play on this server all together.
I've seen such a possibility on https://freemcserver.net/
but you should check it by yourself.
