If each person playing only plays on their own worlds, this is relatively easy to do as mentioned above. However, if everybody takes turns playing on the same world and builds their own stuff, in order to move only their stuff you will probably want to look into using structure blocks.
As I understand it, saved games are not user specific, so initially it sounds easy to just copy the saved games to the new laptop. But a game copied in this way would not update on one laptop to reflect changes that the other child made on the other laptop.
Wouldn't it be possible for one child to load a saved game and open it to LAN so that both children could play on the same world at once? Of course the updated game would only be saved on the host child's computer, and it would be a mess to keep having to copy the saved game onto the other laptop so that the second child could continue to play in the same updated world when the first child is not around.
If the saved game was on a network drive on a laptop that was never turned off, wouldn't both children always have access to the saved file? If they wanted to play together the one who opened the game first could open it to LAN.
I'm getting dizzy, I think I am over my head. Maybe the best solution would be to have only one child who plays Minecraft.
So as I understand it if I do a copy of the relevant files per earlier post from 'tile-entity'....
KidA will carry on as normal.
KidB with the new MC instance will carry on from that saved point and be able to access all the files.
And the two worlds will go forward in their own direction.
No problem
My main aim was to have a method for making sure KidB can still have 'achievements and other earnt things' accessible to move forward with.
EG He has the flaming sword of doom or some such that She is not bothered about.
Is that stuff moveable per the above or is it something they can work out in game?
Anything in chests would remain in both copies of the world.
Things in personal inventories would be tied to the player/account, so if one kid is getting a new account and username they would presumably not have that stuff. So that should be placed in a chest before copying the world.
Is this the Bedrock (Win-10 edition) or Java version of Minecraft?
If it's Bedrock the file path given above is presumably not correct and you might be better off asking in the Bedrock section of the forum.
It was the talk of Achievements that made me think they might be on Bedrock, Java has Advancements, not that I can keep track of the difference myself, I look it up in the Wiki whenever I get confused.
I don't think it makes any difference when you copy the files.
After installing Minecraft or the launcher would have created the folder so you wouldn't have to, also you'd get an indication that that was the correct folder name, it's possible to change the settings so the game uses a different folder but you wouldn't be doing that by accident.
Minecraft wouldn't delete existing save files when you install it so, just whatever is easiest.
I wouldn't do it while Minecraft is running, but that's just out of principle as long as Minecraft isn't running that world (which it wouldn't if you hadn't copied it yet) it shouldn't affect anything.
just unpacking it and putting it in the /saves folder should work.
Have you checked that you haven't accidentally introduced an extra folder layer or something?
What you put in /saves should be a folder, with the name of the world (unless it was renamed), and in that a bunch of folders named "advancements","data","DIM1" etc and a couple of files like "level.dat".
That is the same /saves that contains the new world isn't it?
If you can't get it to work you could try uploading the backup somewhere and post the link so we could test it but it's unlikely to be corrupted.
And you seem to know the difference between Java and Bedrock so I doubt you'd be trying to load a Java save in the Win-10 version or vice versa.
Have you tried just copying the whole /saves folder from the other PC?
I know I messed up with the extra folder thing at least once, I tend to worry when uncompressing things that it might not have the files in a folder but spread them all over the place so I sometimes add a folder when compressing them.
Hi
Bear with me.....
Son and Daughter have been playing on MC on a shared laptop using the one license/ID/name etc.
During summer we have acquired a second laptop.
My plan is to leave the current set up for one of them to carry on with under current license/registrations etc
Buy new separate MC license and set up new email etc for the second laptop so the other can start 'afresh'
Question - bear in mind I'm a non player.....
What are the main things that might want to transfer over? Built worlds/servers/mods etc
Is there a way they could pass them to each other online?
Is there a (simple) way to back up certain parts under user/licenseA and install/restore in user/licenseB?
Make any sense?
Or does that way insanity lie and best to say to the child with the fresh set up 'Here you go' Start afresh.
BTW have some chocolate/cash other minor bribe?
Thx in advance
The important part is the world-save at %appdata%/.minecraft/saves
If you use mods then you also will need
/mods/
/libraries/
/versions/
If in use also
/resourcepacks/
and
/shaderpacks/
For the server-list you need the servers.dat
Hi
Thx for reply.
Is this commands at a prompt or a utility within MC?
And restoring them on the new install?
It is the Path to your Minecraft game-files
Press Windows-Key + R
Paste
%appdata%/.minecraft/
Enter
Copy these folders/files onto a stick/external disk
On the second PC also open this path and overwrite /add these files

The only problem i see here is for example if both kids played on city build servers.
Theyr property would be bound to the same account.
To solve a situation like this is to be fair and overhand the items and plots in question to the new account.
That might sound complex to a non gamer, but your kids will know what to do, in a situation like this.
My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q

Just testing.
Again thx for the replies.
The chests seems like a good tip. I'll discuss with he who knows!
And it's Java on the PC. Not sure about he bedrock.
They use a lot of hypixel servers (I think) if that's a ting/relevant.
Ah, then you're in the right forum section.
Good luck!

This will be my sunday afternoon.
if anyone is around.
I plan to register the new MC instance
Download install etc.
At what point should I move the above referenced files/folders into the appdata folder?
before he starts playing again?
Or do we start MC and then move them in?
Post install but before game start?
Or does it not make a difference?
(Excuse if I have terms incorrect)

So far so good.
Installed OK.
Created new world but can't open backed up worlds!
He did backups using whatever the tool utility is within MC.
So have a bunch of Zipped folders.
I can see that we need to get them into /saves
I've unpacked one with winrar and dropped it in /saves but it doesn't appear in the world list in the game.
I would have thought there would be a restore function in the game but can't find it!
I'm going to slip into day drinking mode in a minute!
Bump!
Is this something mojang support should help with?
Is it a naming of the file issue?
Hi again,

Sorted. Thx Hexalobular!!!
The unzip from the backup put it within another folder that had '<date/timestamp> world name' which tripped it up.
The folder needed was within that so moved it up a level and hey presto.
I might have got there eventually but your steer saved a lot of time and frustration.
Thx very much. One happy chap and all his bits and pieces where there in the chest etc etc etc!!!!
Glad to hear that!
