There is a version of java built-in to the Java edition of minecraft, in the form of commands and command blocks.
There are plenty of good tutorials online to use as resources to learn how to use commands, their functionalities, and in-depth exploration of possibilities within the game.
If creating an entire game from scratch is what you're after, then minecraft would not be a great place to start, as while yes, it would be possible, it would be much more difficult than other programs more widely used and taught to create games, such as Python, C++, C#, or Java (outside of minecraft).
Hello, my son (7 y.o) has been playing Minecraft on Ipad and recently getting into coding.
He wants to start "create your own game" but I am not sure exactly what resource I need.
Do I need to purchase the full version? (is that the Java Edition?) Does that come with
coding functionality already embedded or do I need some separate coding program
and I have to connect the two programs?
His own school district does not have the Education edition, but would "creating game" be possible in
Education edition, if they one day decide to get the Ed. Edition?
Thank you.
