Ok, tell me I'm not nuts, but here's the story. I'm a noob (ok I totally suck at video games in general), but I've been playing several months. I've played several seeds and one other nether fortress (after tons of searching), but this is nuts..
I made a portal near my natural generated village and POOF, it dumps me RIGHT INTO A NETHER FORTRESS! and I mean IN it! Sweet, right?
Yeah, until after a bit of exploring with my boyfriend we hear the scariest sound ever... deep, gaspy breathing, almost like a sleeping dragon. Now I've heard zombie pigmen, ghasts, whither skeletons and blazes, but this was like none other.
Both of us were too petrified to explore and find out for sure. I even crept about today again to see if I heard right.. yup.. still there... somewhere! I'm way too terrible if a player to jump all in and find out without some background info on th his guy.
If not a dragon, is there something in ng else it could be? Am I scared for nothing?
I have not played this in creative nor has anyone had access to it. And this was a RANDOM SEED generated by my computer. Nothing crazy.
"Deep gaspy breathing" sounds like one of the sounds blazes make. Sort of metallic like they were in a tin can?
I'd suggest using creative mode to spawn in some blazes in a safe place until you're sure that either is or isn't it.
Or watch some YouTube videos of people exploring Nether fortresses.
I actually went there for the blazes and nether wart (potion making). We had fought blazes in another seed inside a fortress and knew enough not to destroy the spawners so we could go back and get more rods if needed.
This time the spawner was outside on the outer walkways, and you could hear the growling sound over there but it sounded like it came from below the walkway (not the spawner). There were withers and ghasts wandering about, but not the source of the sound. I'll check back later and see if I can record it..
Maybe I'll get my 6 yr old to help... hes lethal in direct combat in minigames online, so I'd feel safer with him along, lol!
The wackiest explanation I have for this is that a parrot managed to get himself into the portal that dumped you right into the fortress, flew off somewhere, and is now imitating a blaze.

Help???
I can try... I use headphones, but I think the xbox console on the computer let's you record gameplay, right?
How much experience do you have with blazes?

Or just go to the Wiki:
https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Blaze
scroll down to "Sounds" and click on the loudspeaker icons to hear the noises.
Just testing.
