Expanding a Desert Temple like my first base with proper creative input to it (compared to small ones for just chest storage like all the ones I make now XD), and playing the game to get many resources, building a custom village with stores for no reason other than to build instead of mod progression.

The old mountains of Minecraft, before those ugly stone patches were added and they ruined the world generator... before 1.7, hills and mountains were nice, but after 1.7, extreme hills biomes became super ugly, plagued with stone and with ugly plateaus instead of hills...
I also enjoyed the old graphics and music, before that got ruined too.

I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...

Well that's good you hate the mountains because they're going to update them soon heh... also, i think the music's stayed the same?

That doesn't mean that Mojang will update them in the way that they want them to be - as in actually changing the terrain generation, not just adding some silly pointless features (likewise, if Mojang ever adds the fabled cave update it won't interest me if all they do is add some new mobs and ores, not actual changes to caves themselves, which were heavily nerfed in 1.7, and even then they probably wouldn't make them the way I like them).
This is also a major reason why I've never updated past 1.6.4 myself, instead using my own modding abilities to create my own vision of the game, just the way that I like it (which I see as a separate version of the game, not just a "mod" for 1.6.4). Try finding biome and terrain generation like this in 1.7 or later (note the number of different biomes near each other and mountainous terrain in more than just Extreme Hills (when people say that Beta 1.7.3 terrain was superior they are referring to things like mountains in most biomes, not just one or two "mountain" biomes). This was was also created with the first version of TMCW, which has had 3 major updates since then):
These are zoomed-in renderings of various mountainous regions; only the first one is an actual Extreme Hills biome:

Yeah, I'm aware they wont change to be massive realistic mountains, even though they did say they'd make them spikier and have "dramatic views". I, personally, am not too excited for the terrain generation but excited for the feature of snow you can fall into - to create adventure maps this is a great idea. All I know is that mountains are somewhat changing, even if it changes one or two things, it's an update nonetheless and I'm excited for it. I was just stating that they will, in at least one way, be improved. Very interesting though!
Probably when I got lost in my main world (Now 8 years & 111 months old), this is back in Alpha days. I used to do crazy things like making an arrow shape on the ground out of torches then use an outside mapping tool to see if I was heading in the right direction, I had an incredibly long walk back once and whilst I dob't remember the circumstances this was the original image I posted on my blog of the time:
I was just on my old (dead) blog and read an old post, as I used to write about what I was doing even back then, and on this world I wrote about taking down a "Farm house". The bit bit I didn't remember though is where I said:
"It was a sad day taking that apart, and for ages I didn't have the heart to take the glass roof down, so it stayed there floating in mid air for a while. Thought it would of made a great floor, but couldn't think of a useful room, and that was also a sore point of the farm house, I tried and tried to think of an alternative use for the room, but just couldn't. Briefly I tried to use the glass roof as a platform and build a creeper monument out of glass on top of it with the roof acting now as a floor or base platform, but that didn't work out either."
I had forgotten all about the proposed creeper monument! I'm so glad I kept something written down - even back then.

Some of my very first creative worlds. All of them are long gone of course.
There was also an SMP server I used to go on all the time; I knew a couple people. Retrospectively, I was sorta the annoying, attention-grabby kid, but yeah... good times. It was the server that converted me from Creative to Survival mode as my main mode. It shut down a couple years ago.

I post pretty rarely nowadays. Gosh, I wish this place weren't so... empty...
My nostalgia is in how multiplayer used to be... I think that players tended to be more creative back in older years. They weren't afraid to build things even if they weren't perfect, or if it didn't look like a "professional builder" made it. The focus was on players being unique and driving the fun in the game, rather than features keeping everyone interested (As seen in servers with a ton of rewards, npcs, crates etc... and as seen in the latest updates to the game). I see a lot of players doing the exact same things today, and the focus seems to have moved towards finding strong items from adventuring (Like elytra, shulkers, and totems of undying) rather than grouping up to build and do cool things together. This is how I've seen public multiplayer become anyway- you may disagree that it's not like that in your local friend group.
I've seen this a lot too. Old multiplayer was more like 15 people building stuff but now it's like 160 people trying to get the highest vote reward streak.
As for the multiplayer side, I'd say that's completely dependent on the server. Some servers are still small and full of creative people who just want to play Minecraft and have fun, whereas others want to play more gimmicky and complex games.
Can you tell me your most nostalgic memory of Minecraft?

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
