I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
I still have mine on a shelf next to my console games as a memory.
I never read them anymore (got them at retail for $20, maybe each when they came out instead of a book fair) since I know the game well enough (more so from wikis, playing the game and using technical shortcuts with F3 + H for durability and Item names, F3 + B for hitboxes and so on) but for the time I want to check something like in the Combat book I will for armour not so much the Construction, Beginner's Handbook or Redstone ones anymore. I could always pass them on but never had a situation where that is the case so I just keep them on the shelf (like to some kid that might need them that's getting into the game for the first time).
To me they are just nice to have as a novelty these days. They also are from the Release 1.8/1.9 Java Edition period from memory so they are outdated in some ways (at least to me but the Redstone stuff might work maybe that's more what I'm thinking) but still they are cool to have and that's coming from someone who isn't into merch that much, but more pure things like books (meaning like the typical not guide/insightful stuff), movies, comics (depends on if it's story relevant not spin-offs), games from a series if that was their starting format or it's a worthy adaptation.
Thought I'd post an image for those that haven't seen them before if there curious or if they made newer ones (I don't think they did but just encase) these are the ones I have that I know of when I think Minecraft Handbooks.

I have two of them; the Construction one and the Redstone one. Can't say they were especially useful, given as I had already been playing Minecraft for over three years at that point... although I did learn how to build a number of piston doors. They're still floating around here somewhere...

I post pretty rarely nowadays. Gosh, I wish this place weren't so... empty...
I encountered a copy of the Beginner's Handbook in - I think - August or September 2014. After conducting some "research" at my local newsagent (six month old overseas publications) I downloaded the demo and a few weeks later made my first ever online purchase. I have the full set of both editions on a shelf beside me.
Keep looking, I'm seeing them for as low as 1$ each on Ebay.

£0.20 on Amazon!
Yeah I've seen them too (mainly they're 'used' versions though) but I was just so suprised to see a box set of 'updated' books going for that stupid ridiculous amount of money. It's not as though these books are considered 'rare collectables'
.... Who the heck would spend THAT amount of money for these books
I'm also curious to what HAS been 'updated' in the (newer) books - does anyone know
Just thought I'd take a look but no luck on the wiki for much details on the 16+ pages or additional details and when checking amazon the prices are more reasonable I guess for the updated ones individually compared to the boxset but still expensive for a 4 year old book with this kind of info.
The Redstone one has updated stats, not sure what that means, I assume possibilities with Observers now as they weren't available when the original books came out but otherwise not sure by 'stats'. Commands aren't in the books and it's not like kids (target audience can't use them many that age make maps better than I can XD) .
Construction also says up to date stats and 16 additional pages, not sure here what it would be as this is to do with builds more so than technical info I'd have thought. Maybe I need to check my books again and compare to my knowledge of things when these updated books came out I assume a year or 2 later (I assumed 1.10 or 1.11 but they didn't come out 2016+ like these updates did, again speculation below).
Also thought I'd check the wiki for update releases to compare to the dates on the books being August 2014 (what I found with the Construction I think) and July 2015 (updated Construction) so the info should be mostly 1.8 to 1.10 I'd assume, but I don't remember much changing, if the Combat book came out before 1.8 (September 2014) and then an update Combat book for 1.9 (February 2016) then I'd see a need for changes, maybe Redstone with the Observer/Commands since but Construction I don't know other than new blocks maybe, while Essential/Beginner's would be the End City or Polar Bears and Igloos I guess if I remember those updates well enough (1.9 and 1.10/1.11 I mean). That's what I'd assume but that doesn't seem to be the case after looking over the dates as you can tell I listed in-between this speculation and by what you can see on the dates of the amazon listings I put.
Got to say though by now with commands, structures, new mobs, blocks and so on the books would deserve an update now. If the original books came out in 2015 with 1.8, with 1.9 combat changes and the other 3 more so having relevance around 1.9+ with structures, mobs, hunger changes maybe and otherwise I'd see reason but it seems a bit off to me with these days. Obviously I don't own the updated books but for anyone that does what differs with these '16+ pages'.
I still have all four! I have just found them and decided to ask the forums about it

wow I haven't heard of those since I was a baby, given the fact that I am still a child while posting this, that is not that long ago.

Just testing.

Unfortunately from the amazon listings either, not surprising but still, I couldn't tell how different they were (speculation below), the Essential/Beginner's ones just said 16 additional pages of new content 'apparently'. https://www.amazon.com/Minecraft-Essential-Handbook-Updated-Official/dp/0545823269
The Redstone one has updated stats, not sure what that means, I assume possibilities with Observers now as they weren't available when the original books came out but otherwise not sure by 'stats'. Commands aren't in the books and it's not like kids (target audience can't use them many that age make maps better than I can XD) .
