Since the announcement that they'll be changing to read only, I've been curious as to where I'll find new servers to play on... This has been the only place I've ever gone to look for servers =/
Exactly the same here. Many SMPs don't really go anywhere else. I can suggest minecraft-server.net since they have a server bumping section, so you can find new servers.

https://reddit.com/r/mcservers is pretty solid. It's nowhere near as large, but the average server quality seems to be a bit higher than most other sites. This is still by far the best one, though.
I may get in trouble for this, but I've already been working on a new website/forums for news, downloads, resources, etc... Still a lot of work to be done, but it's a start.
I saw your post awhile ago and it definitely has the potential. If Snapshot can get out there, I'd say it could gain enough traction to substitute for MC Forums (nothing can ever replace it).

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
Oh no, this is terrible news. I took a look at some of the alternatives mentioned in this thread, and there is no obvious replacement.
I learned so much reading this forum and I am grateful to all the experts who have shared their knowledge. I also want to express my thanks to everyone who took the time to answer all my questions. I will miss these forums terribly.
So I just want to thank everyone for trying to comm. while they still can. Generally, a 'Net - Discussion - Forum, in which all-can Comment (and there are Moderators), if identified (somewhat) while they do so, that's visible-to the public (even if again it May be "'members'-only," Commenting /Replying), IS the "gold standard," of comm'n. since the telephone, and really, nothing's come-close to being as-good as it, since (even e-mail's not "open to the public").
'Net was Originally designed for comm'n. Not Information (of course, despite "Information Age").
I just Up-Rated a Lot of these options, because they are - All of them (despite what - still "temporarily" present-here - Moderators, say) - Options, and there's - practically Forced-to be now, "more than one way to [fill-in the-blank]." "Good luck, have fun, (and) don't die" (MultiPlayer sign-off).
I heard the forum was being archived soon, and it's pretty sad. I don't think I've ever used the forum before, despite playing the game for over 8 years. I have found the site a tremendously useful resource for information about minecraft, and I've probably visited it hundreds of times for command block advice and other technical stuff. I'm not entirely sure if I'm posting this in the right topic but I just wanted to say thanks to this community, the moderators, the people who have kept this site running over the years. As even though I haven't left my mark on the forums, the forums have definitely had an impact on how I played Minecraft.
In case this isn't in the right topic (Sorry I'm not sure where to put it) here's a cool screenshot of the (very basic) redstone computer I've been building:
It has a 4x4 bit display that can be controlled, with memory to store 4 different screens. It also acts as a calculator adding together the top two rows of the screen in binary.
The reason the site is being archived "I think" is to move it to the curseforge forums, otherwise to save money and not have to keep the resources and otherwise of the forums "here" active and having to continue with the URL/website or servers running. That's my guess and it's kind of understandable but still sad.
The curseforge forums format looks just like the MCForums one right?
The announcement is the top news item on the www.minecraftforum.net home page. On page 5 of the comments to this announcement, citricsquid (who owned the forum) posted that it was a business decision. The forum loses money.
SnapshotMC has forums and might be a satisfactory substitute.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with this SnapshotMC appears to be the best future for the community. The owners there are understanding and willing to take feedback, which is great!
Hey! This is my first ever forum post and may be my last one. I just wanted to contribute to the community here before it is too late. So here is some viable options:
SnapshotMC might be a new home for the suggestion community, but frankly I don't see it being home for any other part of the community. I see most moving off to Planet MC (and perhaps Reddit), with the mods largely congregating around CurseForge forums.
That brings me into something else. I'm wondering if the whole shutting down of the forums is a decision on Fandom's part as opposed to say, Citric's. I learned that back in December, Fandom, the people behind Wikia, acquired Curse from Twitch/Amazon (BE GONE BEZOS). Now, ask just about anyone about Curse and chances are you're going to hear about Minecraft by far the majority of the time in comparison to what else it offers. I'm left to wonder if they're shutting down the forums in favor of only having the wiki(s) for $ purposes. ...Which seems to be pretty asinine given that Curse is quite known for the MCF. To just come along to buy it and shut it down... Kinda nasty, putting it lightly there. But, cheekily, CurseForge is still owned by Twitch/Amazon, and it appears that recently the CurseForge forum was expanded in a suspiciously similar manner to the structure of the current forums here. So that's something.
If I go back to being inactive again right before shutdown, I hope I'll see y'all around sometime, somewhere in the future.
It's been a wild ride, so while we can still be heard.
Here's one last thread on the number one... in the world.

But really? Does it (When it's the most-Popular, Game, of all Time so-far..?! [still being Played, even As-much, since, even-more, really])??
See next.

I never thought I'd see the day where I'm annoyed by someone using too much punctuation.
I guess the other related topic is:
Permanent life support /The Ark-IV’ing
Does anyone think it's better to have less /limited stuff? I ask this to all the "Texters" ...
It just seems a little "final." Business' re-solution.
In-theory, "customers" have - give - input. But in practice..
We're outta here. Either way.
Gotta agree with you - quite off putting
