So, I finally figured out in 1.13 (I've only been playing like 1 week), how to place a door in line with a skylight, so that you can have as many doors validated per skylight as possible, and I watched a validator run around and validate the doors.
I came up with 4 rows 5 blocks long on a cardinal axis as a kind of "door farm", while the actual huts aren't really that door-filled.
Now, I'm not sure that is sufficient for villages to grow, because last I checked, they didn't breed a new villager yet, despite throwing food at them and trading. But apparently that's normal because of randomness?
But, now with 1.14, how do I plan for villager populations.

Do skylights and doors still matter?
Or do only beds matter?
Villagers can take some time to start breeding (placing them near to each other helps).
In 1.14, skyview and doors now have no effect, maximum village population is defined by beds (note there must be an available bed before a new villager will be 'born')
Note that there are a number of active bugs involving villagers and villages so some of the mechanics may be modified by the time a staable version of 1.14 is available…
