So, I was playing on Minecraft in The End when I got an idea of the lore of the game.
So, it begins with the End City. I went to an End City when I noticed the End City Banner. It had the purple and black textures as usual, but then, I realized it had similar colors to the texture Minecraft displays when there is a missing texture.
That made me started thinking about how The End is similar to this missing texture. I then came up with a theory about this. What if The End was just a land where this texture was banished to? I'm suspecting that the texture was banished to The End because it was taking over the textures of Minecraft at one point, but Mojang banished it to The End, waiting for its revenge. The missing texture could've manifested into the Ender Dragon as an attempt to return to the Overworld. That is the reason why you must head to the end to destroy the Ender Dragon and pillage its over manifestations.
What do you think about this theory?

A couple years late, but I found this thread while looking up the exact same thing. It seems too specific to be a coincidence. Lots of things about the End dimension seem to be based around meta elements. The background music has glitch effects ( https://www.youtube[dot]com/watch?v=ZKT5RO-C-jw at 1:10, 11:49, and 14:27), there is of course the "missing texture" banners, and even its name comes from its purpose as a technical ending to the adventure. The dialogue we see after going through the exit portal also seems to draw connections between Minecraft and the real world. I can't help but think it's all incredibly important to the lore of the game.
My theory is that the End is meant to act as a barrier between the game world and the real world. The codes that allow the game world to function are starting to break down, hence the glitchy background music, the missing texture banners, the gravity-defying islands and structures, the odd purple static that replaces the sky, and how the characters in the End Poem urge the player to "wake up" from the game world. If the developers are to be seen as in-game deities, they may have created the Ender Dragon for the sole purpose of giving the in-game people some objective to strive for, just like the thought process in the real world that led to the creation of the End.
This is the thing I love about Minecraft lore, and I hope an official lore book never comes out (Like Hyrule Historia)
I like this theory, maybe this texture could've been a super weapon created by some otherworldly demon created only to terrorize the overworld and it's inhabitants, eventually the people of the overworld lived in complete terror so one day they summoned a great wizard to banish this texture to a distant land called the "End" And maybe the dragon was created so this weapon never fell into the hands of evil! We could speculate all day, but this is a sound theory...
