What about all of the copper in the Overworld, did it all get "mined away"? This seems like a weird excuse for an ore not existing.
As I said before, there never was any copper in the overworld. Just because an ore is in the real world doesn't mean it has to be in the overworld. Quartz isn't in the overworld. Redstone isn't in the real world.
I think adding copper as an ore would be too predictable, and cause a lot of people to be turned off by the suggestion. Copper ore is typically used in tech mods. Having copper come from the Gear fits with the area (a brownish ore doesn't quite fit the frosty landscape, crystals on the other hand do imo). It would behave like prismarine, they could have made it an ore but instead it is found in a dungeon.
The copper doesn't have to be all mined away, that was just a lore I was thinking about. Maybe it never existed and the automations made it through a chemical reaction. Idk.
I would suggest a new mob: The Cyborg Cyclops, who mostly hides in caves, but gets out to eat mobs, preferably villagers and players, if his hunger bar has fallen to a low point. By killing the Cyclops you would get a few drops of tech scrap and a huge load of bones and raw porkchops.

Too predictable? Predictability is good for gameplay. Since there are stone and cobblestone slabs, I can predict that there will be andesite, diorite, and granite slabs. However, there aren't; this is bad for gameplay.
Actually, I think it's a special kind of quartz called "Nether Quartz."
By this logic we should also make mobs that are useless since there is the polar bear.
How would it not be odd for a commonly-known ore like copper to not be found in the Overworld? I think the fact that it's been suggested so many times is a good reason to not use it in the Frist. People clearly want it to be used in redstone and found in the Overworld, not be used only in another dimension.
Plus, what's the harm in adding a new material for the Frist? We haven't created any ores for it yet anyway.
EDIT: Maybe we could do something similar to Nether Quartz, and make it "Frist Copper," "Frosted Copper," or something similar.

Here's my half-baked attempt at making Frist Copper and Frist Stone.
This seems like the best course of action- it's a new metal that's clearly differentiated from iron, but at the same time has a reason to not be in the Overworld (that it's a special "frosted" variant, the same way as how Nether Quartz is).

Something else we could do is call it the "Gear Alloy" or something like that. This way there wouldn't need to be an ore for it.
Wait... Aluminum... unknown? Tin cans are made out of that, planes often have it in their alloys, and generally it's so common it's difficult to not run into it at some point.
Of course, it still looks similar to most other metals... Then again, using some sort of alloy would also be aproppiate in terms of explaining why producing it isn't possible, and it's only source is salvaging Gear mobs.
I agree; aluminum is a pretty commonly known thing. I would definitely be open to using an alloy.
Here's my less half-baked attempt to create some sort of Frist Aluminum Ore using the raw Fristum texture as a base.
It's alright, but the aluminum part of it should be blended in with the fristum similarly to how the quartz part of nether quartz blends in with the netherrack part of it.
i think Copper is fine being locked behind the gear. as for why it's not in the overworld, game logic. And FishG has a point, Quartz is one of the most common minerals in the earths crust, why is it only in the nether? and why is it that Zombie pigmen have gold tools and drop gold if there's no gold in the nether?
Also, i think i found some uses for a mammoth.
first, holding shift while riding one would allow you to take control of it's prehensile trunk. doing this allows you to pick up blocks and mobs, at which point you can move them around, or press right click to launch them with explosive force.
Second, Let's give it a "platform saddle". this would allow the Mammoth to function as a mobile base. ofcourse there would be a block limit, but overall i think that would be a great use for them.

Yes, aluminum is a well-known metal. But, and I'm probably going to say this wrong, the name is very science-y. Coal, iron, gold, diamond, emerald... very basic and known by everyone. A little kid knows what that means. I think copper (silver, ruby, sapphire) fits within that range too. But aluminum... yes we all know it but not children. It's easy to mispronounce, and irl it was never used until 1824. It really feels like a tech mod.
Also, does aluminum really fit with the nature-oriented frosty landscape? Imagine you are wandering through the crystal caverns and come across aluminum- sort of stands out. Even in the polluted gear, why is there an alloy scattered around an otherwise icy environment? Copper ore isn't much better (is the only reason for aluminum ore just so its different than copper? Because aluminum would look a lot like iron).

I think "Frosted Copper" or "Gear Alloy" would be the best option.
Why not do a poll? Possible names for the material:
- Copper
- Frosted Copper
- Frist Copper
- Gear Metal
- Gear Alloy
- Aluminum
- Frosted Aluminum
- Frist Aluminum
So the material in question would help with guns and wiring, right? We will probably need more uses for it, I just realized how silly it is for us to be arguing about the name when the actual ore has little uses.
Adding poll now... to simplify things I made it 3 between copper, "gear", and aluminum. The adjective/second word can be decided in a later poll.
Good point. How about the 24th, a week from today? I have two potential dimension ideas. They probably aren't very good, but at least they're out there:
Dream Dimension. Where players go when they're asleep. This would allow multiplayer sleeping to work. There's a lot of ways to pull this off, but the best way imo is to make it 100% random- like a real dream. A player might go to sleep one day and find themselves in a very realistic dream world where they could fly alongside white horses, and the next in a giant purple cave where evil bunnies are chasing you. Each person would be in their own separate dream. You would probably be able to leave at will, and what you do in dreams would have no effect on gameplay (except for maybe a few key things).
I actually really like the idea of the dream dimension, the original was mean't to have giants or something, but it wasn't anything special.
I think a dimension with tools that only work in that dimension would be cool, so you sort of have to start over again, but there's a twist, it's extremely easy to get the minerals from this world so the hostile mobs are tougher, faster and smarter in result. I don't know what the dimension would look like, but maybe like people are suggesting, a steam punk style one would be cool.

We've already decided on a frost/steampunk themed dimension called the Frist.
Biome Profile: Frosty Flatland A plain chock full of snow of fristum.
The Frosty Flatland is the “default” biome of the First, the first thing people think of. Their generation is nearly identical to Overworld Plains generation, with dirt being snow and stone fristum. Upon first glance it would seem the entire biome is snow, some quick digging reveals this is quite the opposite.
Underground [crystals or other ore] spawn at a regular rate. The caverns go all the way to the bottom of the world. Rarely, one might find a small pool of nitrogen/mist on the surface. All mobs spawn here (except those from the Gear).
Subiomes
• Frosty Flatland: The generic flatland, 3 out of 4 chance this will generate.
• Frosty Flatland M: The region is flat for the most part, however large fristum structures jut out of the landscape.
