About four years and 5 months, and more specifically, at least 5,000 hours with more than half of that in one world, also created when I started playing; here are the stats for several of my worlds, which total 166.55 days or 3,997 hours over 1,134 daily play sessions (about 3.1 years):
These are the stats for my first world, by far my longest-played world:
My most recent world, and second-longest played world:
The world I had before that, and my third-longest played world:
And before that world my fourth-longest played world:
I've had other worlds as well but don't have/can't find the statistics for all of them; most of my worlds are shown here (World1, TMCWv4, TMCWv3, and TMCWv1 are my 1st-4th longest-played worlds):
Extrapolating the average daily playtime of 3.525 hours for these worlds to 4.4 years gives a total playtime of about 5,660 hours, and I have spent virtually every single day playing the game, with a few breaks of up to several weeks when I spent time working on a mod, and even then I was still doing something with the game.

Sometime around May or June of 2012, during version 1.2.5, was when I bought the game and started playing my first own world. I've been playing that same world since.
For the few months prior, I played the demo version (which was at the time limited to the outdated Beta 1.5 version). So I started early/early-mid 2012.
I knew of the game from practically it's earliest days, but never tried it until later. I wanted to wait until it was fully released, for whatever reason. Then, one day when I was bored, I came across the demo (I can't remember where originally) which went to a PC Gamer website page and got it from there. Then I liked it and got the release, and enjoyed it that much more. The rest was history.
I play since Minecraft was free, yes, free to play on Minecraft.net ! Do you know Blocktopia? it was the best, the greatest server back then.. The good memories I have playing mini games on that server (zombies and lava survival and tnt mini games :>). I even remembered the good old Minecraft custom client, it was called WOM Client (World of Minecraft Client), the coolest thing about the old Minecraft!

I've been playing since Alpha. When there was no hunger.
Good times...
I started in Alpha 1.0.4. When Redstone got it's official name, and perpetual snow worlds were a thing, and it was awesome. I still have one of my worlds from back then too.

The other day I found some old backups of several of my worlds which I thought were gone forever (I just deleted old worlds after I was done with them), including their statistics, so I now have a much better idea of how much time I've spent playing - more than 220 days, and this still does not include a few other worlds I had (I have not found any old copies of these, and a few were more like test worlds):
World1 = 138.12 days (my first world, and the only one which I've returned to after I've "finished" playing with it):
World1v2 = 8.57 days
World1v3 = 7.27 days
TripleHeightTerrain = 8.25 days
TheMasterCaversWorld = 14.72 days
TMCWv2 = 5.62 days
TMCWv3 = 15.83 days
TMCWv4 = 22.46 days
Total = 220.84 days (for comparison, I spent 52.82 days playing last year and 5.39 days so far this year, and 24.13 more days since my last post in this thread)
I started playing late 2014/early 2015. I remember being really excite so for the restone update, the first update I had would experience. In retrospect that update was very boring lol.
I have been playing since new years day 2015. The first version I downloaded was 1.8.1 I think.

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I got into Minecraft back in 2009-2010, but I didn't buy the game until late 2012. I stopped in mid-2016 and maybe even earlier.
You can just call me Canary.
How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
I bought the console edition on Xbox 360 around 2010-2011. I bought the PC edition around 2015

Oh, well I started playing it a couple of months after it came out, so I started in 2012 then xD

Been playing it on and off since 2015 or 2016, before the update for the Shields came out.
