I used to watch SkyDoesMinecraft and PopularMMOs. I regret both. There's only so much I can take of immature jokes, repetitive mini-games, and "SUBSCRIBE! LIKE! I DON'T HAVE A LIFE SO I NEED YOUTUBE'S MONEY!"
Really, the only YouTuber I watch anymore that plays Minecraft is PeanutButterGamer, and that's for several reasons:
It's not all he does, or even his channel's focus. He has a good variety of content on his channel that prevents any one series from becoming stale.
He plays with a large group of friends that aren't always the same people. Only playing with one or two other people who are always on your videos really begins to get stale quickly due to the lack of opportunities for funny, meaningful conversations. It also allows for multiple cameras so you can see several different points of view and not get bored because SpaceHamster has been caving for 15 minutes.
He's natural. Content on his gameplay channel is unscripted, making it feel like that whenever he or his friends make a joke, it's the product of their enjoyment rather than a gag to "get the likes." The hundredth time Jen falls into a hole, you really are bored of it and you get the feeling that it was intentional.
He and his friends aren't pros. Seeing them make mistakes really makes them more relatable and enjoyable to watch.
He has a less-used gimmick: it's hardcore. Granted, it's not unique, but it's different than "Let's play these mods" and gives a much clearer goal with higher stakes.
He waits until the end of the video to ask for subscriptions, and doesn't make it a habit to ask for likes.
I've been thinking; obviously the YouTube portion of the Minecraft community is rather unfavorable... But WHY
Its most likely because of the oversaturation of specific video topics.
So...
What do YOU look for in a YouTube video containing Minecraft?
Homely simple part-based let's plays by a person with a dash of maturity?
Spastic videos for the viewer with a short attention span?
Maybe even mass produced music videos?
Post your favorable topics in the comments!
