I didn't necessarily mean it in terms of "click faster=better at games". I meant it more as, if you can click fast, you likely have good coordination and hand control, and can move your mouse quickly and accurately and are general in better.

Well according to most PvP'ers I've seen, it means the exact opposite. If you can "Jitter click like a pr0", they seem to all treat it like it's physically impossible to have good aim, and treat that as a separate skill. Moving your mouse faster isn't that hard, either, even with a low sensativity, just nudge your hand a little.

I don't exactly understand what you're saying about the connection between clicking fast and aiming. And the point was not solely fast mouse movement. Clearly anyone can move their mouse. The point was, in a shooter, you turn a corner. Now, how fast can you adjust to the enemy's head and click simultaneously.
I relate that ability to clicking. If you can spam your sword faster than your opponent, yet still make contact every time, you win.The ability to do this I feel would also mean you are decent at shooter games. If you're good at pre 1.9 sword combat, you can probably be good at shooters. If you're good at shooters, you can probably be good at Minecraft PvP.

Of course, I don't exactly believe that, because, again, I can do that easily, and it didn't take me "10 years of practice" to get a decent aim. I do believe that you can easily win towards someone who doesn't get as many hits or is just flailing around, though, of course. That's just basic logic.

One of the things I've noticed is that those who claim to be very good at PvP are generally just a bit above average but just have better gear than others. So, when someone who is actually good comes around, they are amazed at their abilities.
With that said, I'm trying to not sound like a cocky dbag pro who knows everything. I simply try to give my opinion on the things I have seen.
Old combat required the ability to strafe, while still sprinting, and landing every possible hit. If you wanted to win fights, you had to be able to play at a very high speed. Fast clicking is what makes you good at computer games.
I've yet to be able to experience the new update in multiplayer pvp, as the server I play on does not update for a few more days. But, my thinking is, how are you going to tell me that fights are better if I can use a healing potion between every swing?
Maybe this new combat is in fact better. But I immediately ignore the comments of those who say old combat was easy and just *click click click*. If you've ever played on an actual PvP server, you would know this is false. My feeling is that the people who say this simply are not good at combat, and so they dislike it. Maybe I am wrong, but these are my thoughts.
Finnally someone that understands.... 1.8 is alot more than just click-click-click. So I don't really get it when the 1.9ers go and think that faster clicking = win. Tbh the 1.9ers reming me of the noobs you see on servers that claim that you "hack" right after you get like 5 hits and they get like 1....

Regarding the new changes: Longer fights always result in skill being a more important aspect of the game since there's less space for stealth attacks and more to adaptation.
Other than accuracy we also got timing now, both for attacking and for blocking with shields (love how you can disable your opponent's sword by blocking in time).
Worth mentioning getting the first hit and a consequent combo (which mainly depended on ping rather than clicking speed, lol) doesn't give you a certain win anymore.
Yeah... it's pretty much impossible to take on creepers without a bow, now.
Here's what I do:
1. Attack
2. Backpedal out of the creeper blast-agro range.
3. Rinse and repeat until dead.
Should work on pretty much anything, now that I think about it.
OT: Not sure what to say about Multiplayer, but in Singleplayer, the new PvP is working great, Shields make Skeletons a joke, the sweep attack is good for crowd control, and dual-wielding has so many uses. I for one, enjoy the new combat.

I see you decided to not read the rest of the discussion that was had. I realized I worded it poorly, and rephrased my opinion. Try and read the whole thread if you wanna give a positive contribution to the discussion. Also, cookie clicker is a literal clicker game. It was sarcasm.
Perhaps the fact that ping will no longer have any impact will be a huge difference. Maybe this combat will be better. I do not know yet. My post was simply to point out that 1.8 combat was not what everyone was saying it was. Also, servers with a good player base and anti-cheat should prevent all jitter clicking, hacking, yada yada.
I didn't actually think the combat system itself was going to be very fun, so I never tried it during snapshot stage. Now that the full version is out and I'm using it in my singleplayer survival world, it's not actually that bad! It adds a little strategy to the game. It's actually pretty enjoyable! The new sound effects are really satisfying - just walk into a horde of zombies and slash your sword at them! The Shield balances out the increased annoyance in Skeletons and can help you if you make a mistake while fighting melee-based mobs. Nonetheless, Creepers are annoying to kill without a bow and the whole nerf to sharpness and armor protection was not cool. But overall I'm loving this update!
I think it's good to change litterly everything and that is exactly what Minecraft just did, I know lots of people don't like it, but mostly due to that everything is changed.
My opinion is that I really like it because it has changed and made the game harder - Let's take skeletons for example, I believe they're harder to kill and they're faster, they buffed it, but they might've nerfed it before release, I haven't checked yet.
And then again the fighting: I really like the new fighting at least PVE, haven't checked PvP yet, but I think that's great as well, as soon as I can test it, which I'll be doing later, but as a summory... I really like the new update. Can't wait to see what they add in further updates like 1.10 and what the future of Minecraft will bring, tbh this made me come back to Minecraft a little.

Against Mobs , a lot has changed.
As i said , Sharpness 1 to 4 is pretty much useless now and knockback is even worse.
After the first hit the mob is usually to far away to hit 2 more quick times.
On the small family server i play on , we have a wither platform with a Strength 1 / regen beacon.
That was enough to kill most mobs that spawn there with 1 hit with a sharpness 4 Sword.
After the update not even a Sharpness 5 strength 2 Combo will do that and since you can't put looting on an axe that isn't an option either.
The sweeping motion would be a nice if it would be optional now it can get you in trouble when your target is close to endermen.
Most people are so focused on the cool down timer but fail to realize that the previous versions had a .5 cool down already where you couldn't damage an enemy after they had been hit and that the sword cool down in 1.9 is only .6. The real issue here is that the new mechanic allows damage earlier but at a reduced amount and encourages you to actually pace your hits instead of mindlessly spamming the attack button. Fundamentally very little has changed other than we have to use our brains and control ourselves.

To me it's good since I prefer realism over unrealistically spam swinging a sword like it weighs the same as some seeds. Bows take time to draw back, no one seems to complain about that. If the bow had always been instafire with infinite ammo and was now getting changes in 1.9 to require arrows and drawing back, you'd see whining from the people who used it like a machine gun. Why shouldn't melee weapons also follow reality too? I like the heft of the axe now and maybe we'll see fast attacking daggers or something. Speaking of which, the update also allows for a lot more down the road too such as potions which could speed up your attack rate and shield abilities. It's a good start.
I think if combat had always been like this by default and then switched to 1.8.9 combat we'd have the same exact people whining and more. This is more a whine about change and having to become "good" (debatable that they ever were) all over again. I think it's laughable people took pride in spam clicking a sword but w.e, maybe someday they'll play a real pvp game and get some perspective instead of trying to dictate what sort of free content is permissable in a game that isn't about PVP. Anyways, yeah, you see whining stem from any patch for any game in which something is nerfed which artificially made that player "good". If you're good you can adapt and still be on top of the ladder/etc. Skill is skill, if you have to use a crutch/cheese then maybe that reflects on you.
Anyways, my only complaint about the combat is that the sweeping move on the sword needs to be adjusted. It only activates when you directly hit a mob in front of you and should just activate innately? It just seems a little strange that to trigger it requires a mob to be right in your face. I think it'd function better like that at least if you just swiped and destroyed whatever was in a little radius in front of you, debris and all (such as grass etc), like if you were doing a sword move in zelda. The sweep is also a bit big like someone mentioned.
There are a few kinks with the current combat I think need to be addressed:
-Players with different feels to the game don't want to click.....Wait.... Click.... so slowly, or players that are patient feel they need to be awarded a stronger hit. I feel more weapons like different weighted swords would accommodate this just nicely.
-Bows are OP now, spamming arrows is incredibly over-the-top unacceptable. It needs the cooldown thing like ender pearls.

Sharpness 1 to 4 on a diamond sword needs 3 hits to kill a creeper at full charge , only sharpness 5 reduces that to 2 hits.
So either go Sharpness 5 or nothing ?
PVP this might be fine , but PVE this is stupid.

You can however put a looting sword in your offhand and the looting will still apply to kills done by the axe.
The combat sucks. If I want combat I will stick to Dark Souls or Bloodborne. The 1.9 update does nothing for me.
