None of the updates to survival craft make me happy in any way shape or form. It doesn't add fun, it simply adds stress to the game, and on my server I will be sticking with 1.8.8, which is a shame because there are a couple updates that I could enjoy having. The risk certainly doesn't make up for the reward in any way, unless I can disable the following, through commands or otherwise:
Armor damage = less armor rating
weapon cooldown, Minecraft isn't World of Warcraft!
These updates in full testing do nothing other than enrage the player, makes gameplay far too difficult teetering on the brink of unplayable. Minecraft on hard is already quite difficult and losing all of your items that you work for is already a thing. We personally feel that these updates are nothing to be happy about in any case, and are simply adding a negative energy to a positive game to cater to a small group of survivalists who want things to be so difficult they can seem elite. Minecraft has always been about creativity, and this is not creative in any way, it is simply giving in to a small loud group of "gamerz" while leaving the rest of us who enjoy video games as a hobby rather than a lifestyle out in the dust. I feel the game is perfectly fine the way it is, and unless there is a way of disabling these new "features" (I use the term rather loosely) I will not be hosting the new update on my server. Please don't take this as a negative thing, and I am so overly grateful that I can use older versions if I so decide to do so.
I think things are getting out of control here, and while I am usually all about great new additions, I feel these nerfs to be nothing more than taking away from the experience that makes Minecraft, Minecraft.
This is what you get when Mojang decides to listen to it's community. A lot of the additions of 1.9 have been shaped by community requests, to make sure most players would be happy.
What they forgot is that Minecraft has one of the most split up communities I know, so now pretty much veery Player has something to complain about.
I personally don't mind the new mechanice, I think they will be interesting.
Interesting or not, it should be entirely optional, not forced. Let the server owner, or the player in single player enforce the rules. Don't force them on us. This is very user hostile and very unwelcome. I feel that if these new additions were optional instead of forced, it would be a far better experience for the player.
Ive played these new snapshots just a bit and I really cant understand why people are so salty? i mean its literally just a second you wait before you swing your sword again, any other game with combat in it usually has an animation that takes a second to play out anyways ? all i see this is a bunch of youngns who like their weird "KITPVPPERKSDONATENOW" servers. PVP in minecraft has been the most basic of basics for so long and its actually really nice seeing mojang trying to fix a problem that most of us didnt see a solution to
The armor nerf isn't that bad. It's down from 80% to 66%, and the Protection and Sharpness enchantments needed a nerf too because they were all anyone ever used.
Weapon cooldown is actually a custom attribute you can set on weapons now. If you want to play like it's 1.8, simply crank that value up all the way.
Oh, and whether you lose all your items upon death is a game rule you can also toggle on and off.
And the reason you can customize your game experience like this so much is because Mojang recognizes that Minecraft is many different things to many different people. For some it's about survival, while for others it's about creativity. Don't get upset when you haven't explored all your options yet.

Minecraft is a game thats been updated for years now, its nearly unrecognizable from what is used to be saying changes shouldnt be forced on you is like saying you dont have to follow a law because it was different when you were born.. times change and you can change with them or be left behind... and the whole "minecraft isnt world of warcraft" is the dumbest thing ive read cooldowns arent something only found in mmos guy smh
"To be absolutely honest I feel the cool down is stupid the way it is implemented and is the reason I'm not moving on. It just breaks game play in its current format for many. I feel if it was handled better to stop spam clicking it would have been nice; such as x amount of hits/swings causes a cool down. This would allow a few spam hits then require one to fall back to avoid the cool down while having to evade/defend. This would be closer to one getting tired and losing their breath and stamina depleting from exertion. This hit cool down hit cool down when using swords is just stupid. If I needed to charge my weapon up to shoot the next laser blast or reload the belt on my M60 machine gun the cool down would fit in. It isn't like the mobs are affected by the cool downs and due to this they have to implement new mechanics in order to knock a swarm back so you even have a chance."
I believe it can be nice but it's current format just irks me.
your arguement makes no sense, the cooldown is the time it takes to swing the sword and bring it back, that is an actual and valid reason to give your self a second before swinging again, I can 100% guarantee you mojang didnt sit there and think "oh well lazers need time to recharge swords must too" thats a really stupid way to think about it
and adding realism in the game like having to stop and breath between your spam clicks would be dumb because the break in between swings would be more realistic.. and yes minecraft isnt a realistic game but it has tried to add some logic into its fatastical world and i think this makes sense
The swing itself takes time and there is no need for a cool down then just slow it down. A cool down is having to wait between swings think about it. If you take this into account you would see my argument makes perfect sense.
The PvP metagame isn't going to evolve much if at all with the current system, and having the new system be optional would divide the community even more. The adventure update completely shifted around what PvP and PvE was, and players had no choice but to play the new version and adapt to it.
You'll find that 1.7/1.8/whatever legacy built you decide to stick to will end up dying as new and more interesting content is in newer versions. Don't fight against the change, embrace it and make the best out of it.
Ever seen an old person have absolutely no clue how to use a computer? That is you in 5 years when you finally decide to go from 1.7/1.8 to 1.14. By updating to each new update, you'll gradually be introduced to new things. If you don't however, you'll be stuck with too much to learn all at once.

I am alt-tabbed from WoW right now. I think you can guess what my stance on this is going to be.
Anyway, they are going to be optional, because you can play 1.8.8, as you've mentioned. Can't please everybody, that doesn't mean we make everything optional. The "Wow I just play for fun I'm not a super hardcore nerd 'gamer' this is all negative" argument really has no legs to stand on. Remember you're getting shields and other off-hands to help you out too. Stopping the game from being a spam-fest isn't making the game 'worse' or 'stressful', its making the combat less mind numbingly boring.

This is what I posted in his other topic on this.

Do you really want to end up like that?

Only thing stopping me is the wait, personally. A ton of new content that I don't know what to do with all at once? Sure.
There is already another thread for discussing and critiquing 1.9 and its snapshots:
