I know what you mean. I think that since other games don't have the same freedoms as Minecraft they get repetitive. Even Fallout and Skyrim are limited, but not Minecraft. Sure we have limitations on materials to build with and items to use, but the exploration and discovery when you make a new world is a new feeling every time. When you load up other games you know what to expect which makes it dull after a few play throughs.
This happens with basically all forms of hobbies, including all other games. Get hooked on a particular game and you'll find you prefer to play that game over others.

Amazingly I am having a hard time finding any other game to play. The closest to being a 'steady play game' like Minecraft is Landmark, a 'space limited' MC archetype with finer detailing tools and greater depth of world. Somehow not as fun as MC despite it having more detail.
For me Minecraft has gotten a little dull since I've played it non-stop for a couple years but a little server I was playing on was shutdown so now I don't see any reason to play it and now I'm trying a lot of different games from steam and getting a lil' diversity.

It tends to nullify other games rather than kill them. It also seems to have a lesser effect on games closer to arcade level. I guess that's why it affects enjoyment of, say, Team Fortress 2, which you expect certain things to happen, more than Five Nights at Freddy's, where EVERYTHING is unexpected. If you're anything like me, you'll play it nuts for six months, get bored with it for a month, play it with a little less vigor for three months, get bored again for one or two months, and then play it normally.
After I got Minecraft other I really stopped enjoying other games as much. I recently got Spore, (from 2008) after a friend told me about it, but I just can`t play it for long before I get tired and return to playing Minecraft. Minecraft is truly addictive, although very fin indeed.

The advantage with minecraft and the reason why I find it particularly stimulating is because it constantly requires you to be imaginative. You don't really obey to a pre-set story but instead you are free to follow the game the way you want and at the rhythm you want.
I also experienced lack of interest for other games once I started playing Minecraft because I figured they weren't creative enough.
Minecraft is a a great game that like Dardoviel said "It constantly requires you to be imaginative" that is what keeps us playing the game every day.
I agree with you that sometimes for a certain periods of times I only play minecraft, but honestly that's just a phase, then I go back to playing other games, and mine craft in the same time.

What a small world. Me too! I'm currently waiting for all these games to release on Xbox. (like Ori and the blind forest, Halo 5, Tomb Raider, Scalebound etc)
On Topic: I was like that for like a year or two. It really depends on the person. It didn't necessarily impact how I perceived entertainment when I was in that phase, though. Trust me. It'll pass. Just be glad this isn't a INCREDIBLY addicting game like World of Warcraft or Candy Crush which actually has therapy classes for addiction [to Candy Crush].

Minecraft is the ultimate creativity game, this is why it is so addictive. I've stopped playing all the games I used to spend hours on when I discovered Minecraft.

I leave and come back all the time.
If you want a game that has such a diverse and long play time like Minecraft, I'd recommend a game that has a lot of content. Skyrim is one, Fallout another, Hand of Fate is a pretty interesting one.

I started playing Landmark when it came out in Alpha, first day. Never played a sandbox builder before. Kept hearing how Landmark was a big version of Minecraft. So I decided over time to go look at MC. Wasn't impressed at first. Got it on my XBOX One and started playing one rainy weekend.
Then I found the PC version.
AND.... Now I'm hooked. Haven't opened another game since. Not Landmark, Skyrim, WOW, not SWTOR, nor Rift. All of them have fallen by the way side at this point.
It's funny, sort of. Landmark is a much superior game as a builder. Lots more textures, more realistic, more more more, AND for some reason, it still pales in comparison to MC.

I want to start by stating this has purely been my sole experience but I have noticed quite a few others who might agree.
Since the first time I picked up minecraft as a demo on xbox 360 I have found myself playing every single day. All other
games were originally shelved except when I was attempting to build one inside minecraft, those builds included pokemon,
dead island, legend of zelda (the very first one) and fallout new vegas. All of the afore mentioned games used to call my
attention rather frequently along side some others that I couldn't conceive how to build such as jurrasic park: operation
genesis, rapala's bass fishing and cabella's outdoor adventures.
Even as much as I used to enjoy playing those games, ever since I began my obsession with minecraft not only do I
rarely play them but even when I do I find that they are dull and unentertaining even though I still love them.
I personally find it extremely difficult to invest even 30 minutes into any other game which has been a struggle recently
because minecraft has become fairly boring to me over the last few weeks.
I am bored with minecraft but the persistance of unenjoyment continues still with other games regardless of platform, era
or genre. It is truly sad when I have to force myself to play games like fallout new vegas considering there is a very large
part of me that is so excited for fallout 4. However, I feel and fear that the game I had been waiting what seems like a
lifetime for will just end up shelved along with the rest to gather dust.
What do you think? How has minecraft impacted your gameplay and how you perceive entertainment?

I am hoping that I can find at least one game that can break through this barrier. At this time it doesn't look to promising.
@jcm2606 I agree that every hobby has that endearing phase if you enjoy it enough but minecraft would be a first for me
in overshadowing other games or just nullifying their entertainment value.
In my every day life I still enjoy playing guitar and midnight walks. My real life hobbies are rather uneffected minus days or
nights that I spend hours on minecraft. But my favorite pass-time has been largely effected. Here's to hoping it is just a
phase. The last time something effected my core enjoyment like this I put down games for almost 5 years.
