Minecraft is called "我的世界" in China, but most people in Taiwan called it "當個創世神".
I've heard that Minecraft's official Chinese name is "我的世界" recently.
But I didn't see Mojang had said that everywhere.
This is confusing most of people in a Chinese forum.
Please someone give me the answer!
Because forum is going to change it's name from "當個創世神" to "我的世界".
Forum admin say "我的世界" is official Chinese name of Minecraft, but I can't believe that.
I don't know how, but I stumbled across this forum and had to register to make a clarification.
We speak Mandarin in Taiwan. The same language as the Mandarin in China. Many people in Hong Kong and Guangdong province China speak Cantonese. Taiwan does NOT speak Cantonese. We speak Mandarin (and a unique language called Taiwanese plus some other smaller languages, but mostly Mandarin)
我的世界 does in fact mean "My World".
當個創世神 is complicated to explain. It translates literally to English as:
當 to become (as in, to become an Engineer, to become a Doctor, etc)
個 a
創世 to create
神 god
Now, 創世 is used as an adjective to describe what type of "god" you are becoming. 神(God) doesn't really have any religious context. It's simply representing a being with infinite potential/power.
If I were to translate this into English, I would say it means "World Builder Simulator" or something similar.
Both of these: 我的世界 and 當個創世神 are in Mandarin and correct. Sometimes we have different words for things, or we use a different verb, but it is all 99% understandable to any speaker of Mandarin.
The best way I can explain it is that maybe in Europe people call the "trash" rubbish, but in the United States they call it "garbage". It's the same thing. Everyone understands both.
but in Taiwan, some people call it "Minecraft" or "wheat block"
