I just purchased a Realm for the next 6 months, since it's simply cheaper and easier than setting up a server from scratch using a hosting company...
I was wondering what others thought of them?
I, quite frankly, think it's simply the future of small to medium server hosting. Obviously things like Hypixel/TheHive will need more than Realms will ever offer in the resource department, but then again, currently Realms is crazy limited in what you can do, set-up wise.
Anyone else's thoughts?

Balance is the key. You need some time away and we understand that. But once that's done? We'll meet you on any server (yes, even factions) with a sword in one hand, and a pickaxe in the other.
I think for a small userbase of people (a group of a few friends who want to play together) who don't have the knowledge to set up a server on a hosting company Realms is perfect, they get a fully functioning server without and hassle and know its hosted on a server that won't just up and vanish one day.
True, but it has greater potential than I think you've expressed. At the moment, you're entirely correct, but I see it evolving into something that will put independent server hosting into the minority.

Hopefully they will update it and make it better. I have a Minecraft server running on a old computer. It was free and it is working just fine. I don't see the point getting realms if you have a old computer. That's just my opinion.
Personally I love realms, I attempted to set up a server once but could never get it to work. Now my friends and I can finally play together and utilize each others strengths to create all sorts of interesting stuff. The only thing i don't like is that we cant play with snapshots.
