Enchanted bow with 2-3 stacks of arrows.
Full diamond armor, sword, spade, and pick with appropriate enchantments.
Two buckets of water, half stack of torches, stack of steak.
Stack of wood, stack of cobble, stack of coal, stack of iron.
Ender chest.
i usually play multi player, so I get materials from my friends to venture. I like to go into caves and mine, so i bring plenty of mining materials
any armor I can get that is plentiful
iron sword (unless i have plenty of diamonds)
what ever food I got from my friends (usually 64 bread or meat)
64 torches and plenty of coal
some wood, 32 or 64
32 iron for pickaxes
Water bucket ALWAYS
compass or map if needed
bow sometimes (not too useful in caves)
Stack of trash/building materials (cobble or dirt) I use the cobble to make crosses to determine my exit points from the cave
The wood serves as the crafting tables, sticks for tools and torches or fuel if I am out of coal (rarely)

For it is foretold that on the great day of rustling, no mortals shall live in fear
Normally i go mining, so i always bring iron tools, maybe a helmet or not, but when i go to fight the wither or anything combat oriented, i bring myself some some iron armor, enchanted weapons and a couple of gold apples.

Don't send me friend requests on xbox 360, i only wrote it there to know my gamertag.
When I already have a base set up and all the essentials I need:
Hotbar:
Pickaxe
Sword
Shovel
Torches
Cobblestone/Dirt
Axe (If I have one)
Bow (If I have one)
Bucket of Water
Food
Inventory:
Silk Touch Pick
Wood
Coal
Arrows (If I have a bow)
More food (If on long trips)
Enderchest (With more wood, coal, food and obsidian. Obsidian to build portal to get home.)
Perhaps potions as well.
Those are what I bring when exploring to find new terrain or specific biomes and stuff.

Interesting thread!!! I guess my kit depends largely on what I'm setting out to do!
Overland exploration
- Good swords (2)
- Picks (2)
- Axes (2)
- Bow with arrows (like 32-64)
- Bed and a wooden door (for single player not servers)
- Bucket of water
- Compass (again only for single player)
- Food (tend to take steak as I farm a lot of cows)
- Iron Armor
I find that I generally accumulate more food, than I consume. I generally end up building my crafting table, furnace boats, etc. along the way.
On servers I will only really play vanilla servers where griefing and raiding are permitted. Frankly I find the tension of constantly watching my back and knowing I could get robbed or my base totally destroyed, quite exciting! It adds to the game for me.
Overland on PVP servers I tend to travel with the same kit as above with a couple modifications
- 64 each of dirt, gravel and smooth stone
- I wear the crappiest armor I happen to have knowing I could get ambushed
- A well enchanted bow to keep the attackers at bay, or kill them outright before we get to melee range.......because I suck at melee.
On a raid? Same as on an overland trek in PVP but with the following additions
- No armor
- crappy sword
- regular iron pick and my silk touch pick
- Ender chest (for to steal more loot don't ya know)
- Iron Shovel
I usually bring a diamond sword, Full Iron armor, Food ( of course) Furnaces, Coal, Iron Pickaxe
I bring the furnaces and coal to cook food when I run out
I'm back from my hibernation. Most likely gone so don't pm me.

Usually bring a wolf and a cat too.
You should get the enchantment where you only need one arrow!

I NEVER CARRY OR USE TORCHES!!!
For me anyhow, it all depends on the mission.
